@melonscoop Same here - I’ve had 3 day weekends for almost 20 years. This holiday, I added a couple of vacation days to turn a 4 day weekend into a 6 day weekend. Sweet!
Depends on the holiday. My Dad was a lifer in the USMC. Korea, 2 tours in Nam and we were lucky to get him back home. I remember my Mom waking my brother and me up in wee hours to go to base to pick up a package that Daddy had sent. We were pretty cranky but that all went away when we noticed that no one was unloading boxes from the truck. Then Marines started filing out and…THERE HE WAS!!! We lived in Albany GA, St. Louis, 29 Palms, Jacksonville NC before he retired to Orlando, close to his home town Winter Garden.
Not everyone made it home. So today I wear red, white and blue. I’m watching Vietnam in HD on History channel (caution, it’s quite graphic…the media coverage was so different back then). And I’ll have a moment of silence today at noon.
@llangleyThanks to you and your family for his service. It is truly a ‘group effort’.
My family is French with my parents immigrating to the US in 1951. If it wasn’t for the American GI, I would have learned to speak German instead of French… just sayin’…
Thank God for the people who will still take up the torch.

In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Every 3 day weekend is either a one day or two day weekend for me. 7on/7off in an ER with the work week starting on Monday means either you get the front part or the back part. Not often I can get someone to trade out the holiday… On the other hand, since I work 2nd shift (1500-2300) it’s almost like a full 3 days, and every so often July 4th is a Friday so, yeah… 3 day holiday… IF that is my off week already… (or maybe that’s really a 7 day weekend…)
(But then again, here I am at 0300 at work for 12 hours since we are short handed…) Sometimes it sux to be a responsible adult!
But I still love my job…
What’s a three day weekend?
A great time for working all three days, plus a five hour drive for work on the actual holiday.
@Aspirant_Fool - Ha ha! I had off Saturday. Oh right, the commute this afternoon. Hmmm…
A great time to take Friday off and do nothing for 4 straight days.
Lose math skills as I add Friday and Tuesday and come up with 4 days.
There should be an addendum for attempting to get stuff done
@spitfire6006006 if only good intentions got things done.
I’ll set myself up for abuse here. I work 30 hours a week (no Fridays) so every weekend is a 3 day weekend. This one’s a 4 day weekend!
@melonscoop how do you get things done, at work I mean? It takes me 4 days to talk everyone in the office to do lunch together Friday.

No 3 day weekend working it all day everyday

Three day weekend doesn’t matter.
Thank God for the people who will still take up the torch.
