This should be a VMP/Member Only Hour
6While I appreciate the VMP deal as a VMP, I think it’s silly that Members aren’t also involved in this. VMP’s, inherently, are dwindling away. I think it just leads to confusion and anger if someone who pays a $4.99 a month membership that they’re blocked from buying because they aren’t part of a club they can’t even join anymore.
Just my $0.02.

@medz I get it. You want an IRK with little resistance. But for the other deals, it’s just confusing to have something that you can’t buy and you can’t sign up for.
@BillLehecka @medz They probably just need to communicate better.
@BillLehecka No doubt that needs to be clarified and communicated better. They keep going back and forth between VMP being a secretive thing and hiding the benefits we have vs putting it out there in their faces like this. That said, I want my perks!
/giphy entitled
@BillLehecka I understand your intention, but at what point do you stop handing out participation awards and appreciate those who have supported VMP since the early days?
@BillLehecka @ruouttaurmind Yeah! You’re talking like an East Coast Wienie! “Oooo we should give everyone a chance. Boo hoo…”
@ruouttaurmind You mean like me, who’s been a VMP since day 1?
I just think it’s silly to annoy another subset of people who think they should have a claim to the title. It causes consternation that could easily be avoided.
@BillLehecka I mean no disrespect, but this is the foundation of the participation award. Nobody excluded. Life doesn’t always align that way though. Sometimes membership is accompanied by perks.
No, not necessarily. Rather, those who heeded the “closed club” warning and continued to support the original VMP program. Yes, you are in that subset. But I’m not necessarily referring to only VMP-Day-1 folks. Although I wouldn’t object to that group having some kind of special recognition. Guaranteed IRK? Sure. Sounds fair.
@ruouttaurmind Or do you mean the VMP-ers who got back in when casemates started?
@therealjrn I mean life is full of exclusions and restrictions in the commercial free enterprise system. Sometimes that is to my benefit, sometimes I’m excluded, all the time I accept this as part of the game.
@ruouttaurmind
/giphy I got a rock
As an original VMP member (and kickstarter and old goat), I like feeling special.
I still didn’t get the models. I tried, bless my heart, I surely did.
And now, I’m bitter. A bitter old woman. That’s me.
@lisaviolet me too…me too…well except the woman part, i think
@lisaviolet I’m jealous. I would have been a Kickstarter if I could. I liked the OLD woot, pre Amazon and pre a thousand pages.
I had no idea about Meh starting until it was a few months old.
@OnionSoup I just lucked into it. I follow Woot on facebook and there were people complaining about how much woot had changed and someone mentioned this Kickstarter thing for a new deal of the day website. I got in on the second tier.
But if it hadn’t been for the woot fb page, I’d never have known.
@lisaviolet @OnionSoup I got in because I follow Snapster.
Yeah, but I’m paying an extra penny a month ($5 a mo. vs their $4.99 a month) and I want my money’s worth. That’s about all the sales this time have been worth.

@Barney Good point.
@Barney I’m concerned there was no mention of purple in this response…
@Barney @BillLehecka She also cursed out @carl669 , must be a deep deep purple day.
@Raider It was fun.

What is VMP member?..my order won’t go through and I shop here all the time… I’m in the dark here.
@CynthiaS VMP Was the original membership program that is now closed. You can become a regular member for $4.99/mo to enjoy free shipping, but that ain’t gonna help you none for VMP-only hour!!!111!
/giphy air horns
@CynthiaS it goes back to normal in 10 minutes.
@medz OK. Thanks.
@medz OK thanks but dang.
/giphy I agree.
No that’s you $.01 extra privilege to get the vmp hour. Members get none. It’s kind of a meh you should have been here earlier or shouldn’t be so stingy about the $.01. I missed the Kickstarter by a few hours. So… meh I missed out. What you should be more upset about @BillLehecka if that is your name… is that we don’t have pagination anymore… and where the hell did the speaker docks go???
@sohmageek I still have a couple that I’m having trouble giving away, you want one?
I respectfully disagree. I’ve been paying for VMP for a couple of years, at least let me buy shitty kitchen scales without more competition.
I think it needs to be explained more since members are thinking they are VMPs, when they’re not.
@RiotDemon You can explain it until your face goes purple and most will not listen. It’s pretty much a losing battle.
@Barney @RiotDemon next time we should all just go silent and not respond or post at all until the hour is up.
Revel in the confusion!
@medz Can you keep silent for an hour?
@Barney @medz can either of you? I went a few months. Close to a year… and all I got for that was my pagination was gone!
@Barney boom. I did it!
@medz Did it hurt?
@RiotDemon
It’s so cute isn’t it!
@Barney burns a little
@Barney @RiotDemon Also, any explanation of the benefits might take place in the forums. Which those individuals don’t follow except to post they got a fuko - and then disappear until the next meh-rathon.
Let confusion reign!
@RiotDemon I think the confusion comes for some people because VMP used to be the membership that you could join and drop at will like you can regular membership. They probably remember being members and VMP at the same time.
It appears some people skipped the email explaining that VMP was getting closed off.
I quit last month since deals are shit now. Nothing good/worth to purchase other than bags
@erhanuyar I am heading there too. Nothing much this year. I am paying but not buying anything. I used to sometimes buy something meh to justify paying for VMP but now the deals are not good enough to bring me there even. Plus, I miss the $5 shirts and other perks they used to dole out to VMP.
@erhanuyar The casemates has really bumped up the VMP worth for me. Sadly checked last night and have “saved” $244 in shipping costs just over there.
@raccoon81 good for you, it is a good deal if you use it. I was just not utilizing it and never bought wine from caskmates either.
@erhanuyar @raccoon81 I am not a wine drinker. Or much of a drinker at all really(few a year). PA does not allow shipping it to your house even if I were.
@erhanuyar caskmates seems a more fitting name than casemates.
Unless wine barrels are never called casks.

First off thanks for thinking of us Mehmbers, @BillLehecka, and you can borrow one of MY pens anytime (not the four-color Bic, though.)
When I think of all the benefits Mehmbers get, ranging from free shipping to be able to cancel at any time, I can’t help but wish there were more, perhaps out of a sense of entitlement? But on the other hand, I’ve saved more than $0.06 by not being VMP, and that’s only the savings, because to maintain your VMP you’d’ve been paying $5 from the get-go, so in reality I’m WAY ahead, and that doesn’t include not purchasing any of that VMP stuff yesterday, though I am seriously interested in what was in those I.R.K.s.
I wish I’d known about Meh from the get-go but hey, I’ve missed a lot of boats in my life, and I haven’t drowned yet. So, to wrap it all up, um:
Yeah. I spend WAY too much time at this site! OK, so back to decorating the cookies.
As a kick starter, VMP and original Wooter, I see it the same as I see the fact that I don’t have a Lifetime subscription rate to Sirius and now Sirius XM. I wasn’t enough of a believer early enough to save myself what has turned out to be $ 000’s! I have not bought much in '18 but still like the idea of a “special” for my early belief and support.
@readnj Yes, yes, yes! I kick myself regularly for not having gotten the lifetime membership! “…but it’s $300! What if I end up not liking/using it?..” man, oh man, was that a bad decision!
They pay an extra 1cent a month. Perhaps they deserve it. Plus, I know I expire my membership from time to time. Takes dedication to stay a VMP this long (or just being too lazy to click cancel).
Honestly, although I would have liked to buy a few of the VMP only things and was thwarted by the system, I think Meh is probably doing a good thing for the VMPs.
@OnionSoup I just woke up a little too late, and missed several items I’d have wanted. I was out shopping in the real world during this VMP hour so I missed it completely. I ended up only getting the likely crappy Bluetooth headphones and my very first IRK/BOC. I’m hoping the headphones aren’t impossibly crappy, as the BT ear buds I just got in the mail are way too huge for my ears, uncomfortable and won’t stay in, and the foam covers appear to be glued on. So I’m going to be gifting them to someone and hoping the headphones are good enough for watching You-tube videos in airports.
Much ado about nothing. I was a VMP until about a year ago, when it occurred to me that I hadn’t bought anything from meh in about a year. So I cancelled my VMP membership.
Then, yesterday, during the meh off, or whatever they call it, I saw something I wanted to buy. Didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the best deal would be to buy a new membership, so I’d get free shipping for anything else I bought yesterday, or the next month.
As it turns out, I didn’t buy anything else yesterday, and, based on past experience, I won’t buy anything from meh in the next month. If I do find something I’m interested in, amongst the knives, lame t-shirts and hair implants, that will be, as they say, gravy.
Bottom line: there’s nothing “fair” or unfair about the meh membership deal, or the legacy VMP deal. Use what you use, cancel when you’re done.
And please stop “gifting” things. Drives me nuts.
@phineasgage Would you rather we put them up for sell instead?
@phineasgage Since the word gift has been used as a verb since at least the 16th century, you are a bit late with your complaint.
@moondrake I guess I’ll have to take your word for that. My OED has the earliest usage in 1619- the 17th century. Still drives me nuts, irregardless. (1795)
@phineasgage I took Columbia Journalism Review’s word for it, "Garner’s Modern American Usage is also dismissive of the verb “gift,” even as it notes that the usage has been around since the 16th century. ". But 17th works for me.
