don’t forget the other half of the story, had the game gone the other way, the Zoo in Providence,RI would have named a Cockroach after the Falcon’s QB…um…(quick search…)…Matt Ryan…Thank you google!

I agree that this a great honor to Tom Terrific. The zoo was was required to name the roach after losing a bet. The bet required that the animal be a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Now Atlantians and visitors will always be required to remember what happened in SuperBowl 51.
For the haters, it should be noted what this QB has overcome in his career. In college he was mainly a backup and never given a chance. His NFL outlook by scouts was that he was: too skinny, lacks physical strength - he was drafted #199 in the 6th round with 6 other QB’s drafted ahead of him. Love him, or hate him - he has fought an uphill battle his entire career and persevered.
@jbartus one of my district mates just sent me a pic. Her neice was at CHOP in Boston for a followup after having a liver transplant. The pic is of her and Gronk together! He was on the floor visiting kids and let them know he was donating $100,000 to this particular floor. That’s Greatness.
@mfladd The Washington Post article says that the losing zoo was required to name a baby animal after the winning quarterback. It does not say that it had to be a cockroach. Is this another thing the Post has gotten wrong with their reporting?
@Barney (NEWSER) – More than a week after the Falcons fell victim to the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, an Atlanta zoo has named a cockroach after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, the AP reports. Zoo Atlanta says it had a bet with Rhode Island’s Roger Williams Park Zoo that called for the loser to name a baby animal after the winning team’s star quarterback. Both zoos figured the loser would be pretty bitter about the game, so they agreed the animal in question would be a Madagascar hissing cockroach. The zoo introduced a whole family of cockroaches in a video Monday, including tiny Tom Brady.
So say we all.
Naming a creature that excels at survival no matter what you throw at it after Tom Brady is definitely a wise choice. I approve.
@jbartus Boo, hissss!
@Barney don’t be salty just because your lemons turned out to be lemonade. A cockroach is a fitting namesake for Tom, I’ll bet he’s honored.
@jbartus It’ll probably get stepped on.
@Barney not at the zoo, they’re treated like royalty there as befits Tom Brady’s namesake.
@jbartus Still, all these apply (at least at the zoo, and probably most everywhere else):
The ‘optics’ are not good for Mr Terrific on this one.

@mfladd Aww, the cockroach will only live around five years
@Barney It’s ok. His/her offspring will live on.

@Barney reading the article in its entirety helps.
@jbartus It was very hard to do with all of the stench coming from it.
@Barney the smell of victory can be overpowering to those unaccustomed to it.

Was it a good idea to hand them the bait?
Roger Williams Zoo has a cool indoor Aviary kind of a living cyclorama of New England woodland.
On the other hand which downtown hotel did the roach come from?
