An all-time favorite artist of mine. Had the privilege of seeing him perform several times with the first being the Glass Spider Tour at Veterans Stadium. I remember being absolutely blown away by the elaborate production. He was the consummate showman on stage. I feel like I lost a little piece of my heart and soul today. Thank you for the music, the memories, the joy...
@jaremelz Dare I say you should be. I'm quite sorry you didn't have the opportunity. I was reading more about the Glass Spider Tour and hadn't realized the show I saw was the first staging of it in America. He had performed it in Europe first then came to Philly. Bowie always had a fond connection with Philly and had expressed it each time I saw him play. He recorded Young Americans at Sigma Sound here and spoke fondly of his times performing at the Tower Theater, which is about 10 minutes from me. There was something special to him that was quite apparent when playing here. Damn, I still can't believe he's gone. :(
@cinoclav Having a connection like that makes it feel so nuch personal. Some musical influences can be argued or hard to trace. Not Bowie, modern music would in no way be what it is today without him. I connected with him as one of those strange, different creatures who felt they could escape their simple skin and just be free. Musically he simply rose above. It is late and I'm rambling. But I will miss existing in a world with him in it.
He released a farewell video, with lyrics, last week. 'Lazarus' is classic Bowie, the last authentic bit there can ever be. I'm going to have to buy the album.
Bowie and Bing Crosby singing "The Little Drummer Boy" is one of my all time Christmas favs. Who would have thought that they could have pulled this off?
@joelmw Interesting to note that the video is actually cut to that audio track from 3 different concerts, one of them being the performance with Annie Lennox above.
One of my favorite non-glam-rock moments in Bowie's career would have to be his narration of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, alongside Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
@stardate820926 Isn't it?! 'Peter and the Wolf' isn't the sort of piece that I feel the need to collect many recordings of, but I can't imagine being without that one!
For those with AMZN prime, Black Star, The Next Day, and The Next Day (EP) are all available to stream. The songs can all be d/l to your phone, free. The prices for his early vinyl are astonishing.

So very sad. His music makes up a large chunk of the soundtrack of my life.
@AnnaB The Twitter link doesn't seem to be working, but I'm gonna keep it in in case they fix whatever's wrong.
@joelmw lovely sentiment
Jr. High student in the mid 70s finds The Thin White Duke then this past Friday listening to the new cd with smiles and tears of joy.
Last nite realized I hadn't seen the latest video from Blackstar - Lazarus.
Thank you David Bowie.
@fjp999 I posted the video below. Thanks.
@OldCatLady no, no, thank you...
Well, fuck. Just .... fuck.
@magic_cave uncensored. Welcome to the community!
@Barney I like words, especially words well used. Over-used, they just become, um, meh.
Major Tom?
This is Ground Control...
@2many2no This was the very first 45 that I owned. My older brother gave it to me and I was hooked.
All circuits now are green.
Everything A-OK.
You have clearance to Fly Away.

@cinoclav I am so utterly envious that you were able to see him.

@OldCatLady This is beautiful.
Flight of the Conchords with a timely tribute:
Bowie and Bing Crosby singing "The Little Drummer Boy" is one of my all time Christmas favs. Who would have thought that they could have pulled this off?
@Barney

My Favorite Bowie Duet
@Foxborn The original is great too.
@joelmw Interesting to note that the video is actually cut to that audio track from 3 different concerts, one of them being the performance with Annie Lennox above.
The stars look very different today

I actually just set up a David Bowie Pandora station to listen to on my JBL mini at work :)
Bowie hits at about 1:18
This is one of my favorites. The full song:
@joelmw I love that song so much! It's my go-to song to cheer me up when I'm feeling down
@joelmw Funny, I'm reading this as I'm watching the movie on HBO Zone. (A Knight's Tale, the dance scene)
@medz These guys look like they're genuinely having fun. And it's funny how the song brings out their similarities.
sad day
Bowie absolutely nailed the impact of the internet- interviewed in 2000.

My heart is broken...
So much Bowie on all the stations today, shame for the reason...

I was fortunate to see him on Broadway as The Elephant Man.
RIP. Incredible performer and visionary.
David Bowie and Trent Reznor performing "Hurt" together:
SNL 1979.
Klaus and Joey carry Bowie out to perform The Man Who Sold The World. Check.
The three all in tight skirts do TVC15. Check.
Boys Keep Swinging with HUGE Bowie Cock popping up. No Memory.
@fjp999 seems Vimeo doesn't like this video posted so I found another non-vimeo (fingers crossed it works).

... here are some really great articles/photo essays as well: http://www.out.com/entertainment/music/2013/03/22/joey-arias-my-saturday-night-live-bowie
Rather insightful article discussing his work during his illness. No doubt, he did things his own way.

@cinoclav Nope, totally not tearing up again.
Aside from the music, this is my favorite thing from Facebook yesterday.
@joelmw I absolutely adore this.
Possibly the best tribute imaginable. I cried all the way through it.
@OldCatLady yes, I thought I had finally ended the tears but this just brought them all streaming.
One really should see it full screen - very beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

I thought this was cool.

@stardate820926 Nice find.
To take my mind off my sadness got creative and made a Blackstar in a few different materials.
The one in 35mm film is my fav.
