the line
5is it in or out?
can you step on it?
how do you define the plus/minus of the line?
hockey - one leg can cross, but not the other
basketball - all of the line is out
tennis and volleyball - all of the line is in
what other sports have different definitions of ‘the line’?

Well as a kid when we were in the back seat it had a plastic car seat with bumpy lines. Heaven help the sibling who had any body part cross the particular line we determined was the dividing line between their seat portion and a sibling’s.
@Kidsandliz I’m not the only kid who did that!? One of our cars had black vinyl (or something similar) with what looked like white stitching, basically creating a checker board effect. I was about 10 and my sister was about 6, which in itself generated uncountable hours for bickering. Add the usual squabbles to the new topic of “you’re on MY side of the seat!” then sprinkle on my sister’s complaints that I was looking out of her window… Car trips were lively.
@magic_cave That sounds about right - we were grade school when we’d do this too. I am sure if we had thought about it we’d have done the window thing too (although a bit harder as there were more kids than windows). We’d spend countless hours (especially during 8-10 hour drives in the summer) playing whack a mole putting fingers “over the line” (along with doing some taunting) with the sibling whose space we were invading attempting to smash said finger with a fist. Of course we’d also cooperate putting gun sights on the windows with crayons and “shoot” trucks as they passed us (yes you read that right - passed us and not the other way around - those road trips could have been 7-9 hours I bet). My parents apparently had an endless ability to ignore screaming, yelling and drama from the back seat.
in football i think you have to cross the line completely
/youtube thats crossing the line
@Yoda_Daenerys it’s actually the opposite, at least in professional US football: any touch to the line. For example for a catch you have to show 2 feet in bounds before any part of either foot even touches the sideline to be considered a catch inbounds, and if the football “breaks the plane” of the endzone, it is a touchdown,
@mollama so that’s kinda weird, right? touch the line when making a catch and you are out (so the boundary is at the ‘start’ of the line). however, when trying to score a touchdown you have to cross the line (so the boundary is the ‘end’ of the line).
You know what this reminded me of. The Game. Which you all just lost.
As someone who played tennis for a while, I never did really like the whole “all of the line is in” thing, largely because the lines are just so thick for that to be the case. Make them thinner lines that are out or something if you want to give X amount of space for the court.
@Mehsturbator there is a very
fine line where the ball is in or out, what do you mean a thinner line? if it touches the line - in, if not - out
/youtube touch me in that thin line
@Mehsturbator asshole.
@Mehsturbator what was the game that was lost?
The line is good for Chicken Hypnosis.

Is that bird alive, or are you cranky, or both, or neither?

My fav segment from that wikipedia page:
Does this mean that Pentagon reporters who try to be objective, which is to say fair, are still fowl?
@f00l Probably eaten or cat food by now.
Soccer: Ball can be on the line and still be in play, on throw-ins the player can have one foot on the line but not both.

Racquetball. Some lines you cannot cross the invisible plane such as the safety zone line. Some lines the ball cannot touch or it’s a short serve. The front service line you can cross as long as you’re touching a little bit of it. The short line/back service line cannot be crossed but you can step on it.

@daveinwarsh glen is looking pretty pure and clean-cut there, did he ever get into any trouble?
@Yoda_Daenerys I can’t believe that Glen Campbell did anything wrong in his life (except questionable acting in True Grit).
@daveinwarsh
What if he wasn’t supposed to drive the main roads? What if he was supposed to drive the non-main roads? ; )
I love that song, btw.
@daveinwarsh lol, yea, i must be thinking of some other so called squeaky clean musician gone bad…
