@JonT I feel like the speech looses much of its' value in the absence of the context. I'm just glad you did not link one of those awful videos that blare orchestral music over it, which takes away from the impact for me.
@WilhelmScreamer@JonT Undoubtedly one of the most brilliant films ever made, and Chaplin's hand is obviously all over the film. The issue for me lies in the plagiarism (see Bercovici v. Chaplin, which Chaplin settled, rather than risk a more substantial judgement). Chaplin claims in his autobiography he was the sole author of the script, however, most scholars now agree that Bercovici not only wrote the outline for the film (which, coincidentally, was based in part on Chaplin's half-brother Sydney's 1921 film called King, Queen, Joker in which, like Chaplin, he played the dual role of a barber and ruler of a country who is about to be overthrown - Sydney was writer/ director and friend of Bercovici) but that Chaplin stole pages of dialogue from Bercovici, including the speech embedded above.
Further proof, I suppose, that when it comes down to it, "everything is a re-boot".
Check out the entire series . . . interesting stuff, and you'll never listen to Led Zeppelin the same way again after watching part 1 . . . Enjoy! (And be sure to watch this one I've embedded past the end credits - or you'll miss the best part).
@bbonacci well, like i said i don't remember anything about it so i don't know if i "got it" or not. i'm sure it was explained to me, since i had to watch it for english class.
@SIMBM it was a private school so maybe, but I doubt it. Although we were treated like mature young adults, I think I'd remember seeing something like that.
@katylava Remember that he did kill a few incorrect Sarahs and mistook her roommate as well before he got to the right one. Clear mistaken identity if you asked me.
The Inspector General starring Danny Kaye.
@bluejester
For me, the best part starts at 1hr 18min.
Galaxy Quest
@Pavlov Tim Allen was so great in this. I remember laughing at the subtle, yet perfect way he did the Kirk "lean."
This was a really difficult call. Went with Charlie Chaplain because reasons.
@WilhelmScreamer because of this:

@WilhelmScreamer Oh, wait...that's Jerry Chaplain.
@JonT thanks for ruining it for me. I was a quarter way into lebowski.
Dumb & Dumber
The Usual Suspects. Although, I guess that's not precisely what we're going for here. If that doesn't count, then the Dude wins hands down.
Being There is brilliant cinema that almost no one has seen.
@irishbyblood Agreed - Perhaps Peter Seller's finest performance.
@irishbyblood Chauncey Gardiner got my vote.
@Pavlov I was kinda shocked to see this young, Mediocre staff include it. Homework was done, or at least googled.
@irishbyblood had to watch it in high school... don't remember a thing about it except it was kinda funny but mostly boring.
@katylava I'm sorry, but I would bet at least $10,000 that you didn't get it. Boring?
@bbonacci well, like i said i don't remember anything about it so i don't know if i "got it" or not. i'm sure it was explained to me, since i had to watch it for english class.
@katylava Wait. You watched this in High School? Did they show the Shirley MacLaine masturbation scene ("I like to watch"?)
@SIMBM it was a private school so maybe, but I doubt it. Although we were treated like mature young adults, I think I'd remember seeing something like that.
Spies Like Us.
That rug really tied the room together.
I'll confess, i voted "Life of Brian", because It's the only one i've actually seen.....
The Man Who Knew Too Little.
@Raider Definitely!!! One of the funniest movies that most people have never seen!!
@Raider Hi. I think you've got it, though I had forgotten this until you mentioned it.
Dave
You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
The dude abides.
"On the Beat" starring Norman Wisdom.
AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man.
No love for the "The Man With One Red Shoe"?
@stienman That was my first thought.
@stienman Is that "Oh-gle or Og-gle?"
El Mariachi is an interesting choice, but The Usual Suspects is it for me.
Being There is so under-rated. One of Peter Sellers best and such good political satire for the time.
Edit: Similar sentiment, above, missed it. Agree!
FACE-OFF
Wasn't almost every Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ever about mistaken identity? (Total Recall, Eraser, The 6th Day, Running Man, etc.)
@ACraigL Terminator, predator, conan, commando, jingle all the way, kindergarten cop, the sixth day, twins, etc...
@stienman @ACraigL now i'm imagining a monty-python-esque parody of terminator in which the entire movie is about the wrong sarah connor.
@katylava Remember that he did kill a few incorrect Sarahs and mistook her roommate as well before he got to the right one. Clear mistaken identity if you asked me.
Cars 2. Ok, not really.
...only because it hasn't been mentioned yet:
History Of The World Part I.
You Look Like The Piss Boy!
