The end of AWAY
3So, Netflix has decided not to renew Away for a second season. Have you seen it and if so what is your take on it?
My wife and I have enjoyed the episodes we have seen so far (4 or 5) and were looking forward to following the story line. Overall, we feel that it has been a good blend of sci-fi with a decent dramatic “family” story line.

I am v dissapointed. I thought it was a great storyline and I loved the drama/tension between the characters. I was anxiously awaiting season 2. Oh well

@tinamarie1974 agreed. I liked the way they blended the drama of space exploration with the technical challenges it presents to the crew and their family/relationships. I’ll be sorry to see it go.
I have had that as an eagerly anticipated addition to my watch list, but I no longer watch anything that only has a season one. They keep doing this… In fact, I prefer not to watch any series that hasn’t been completed. So far, I’ve had some luck with this, because I have been so far behind on TV. My luck is about to run out…
@shahnm the rise of binge watching. I generally agree… And don’t like to start a show that has no future… But if no one watches season one then there is no season 2… So…
@unksol So… you’re saying that I should start thinking of my TV watching as a community service of sorts? I think you might be onto something here. I’ll give, and I’ll give, and I’ll give till it hurts.
@shahnm just the way we watch tv has changed. And has to impact which shows get renewed. And has some weirdness.
Entire seasons being released at once is one but you kinda have to figure if no one watches a new show. Cause we were waiting/saving it. And they can see the numbers watching. That probably has some sort of metric in what gets renewed.
@unksol This is all my fault. I will make it up to the Meh community by single-handedly play-acting the entire season 2 of Away. I’ll have a script ready shortly. I have not seen season 1, but never fear - I will not let that stop me! You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. It’ll be better than Cats!
Wait - there’s a goat. It’s the goat’s fault! I’m off the hook. @kykazaa - come take your blame!!
@kykazaa @shahnm @unksol wait, what. I had my popcorn ready!
@kykazaa @tinamarie1974 @unksol You may still have your popcorn. No one will take that away from you.
And if someone takes it away from you, blame that damn goat…
@shahnm @unksol I accept full responsibility for the non-renewal of Away. I never watched a single episode and they must have weighted my non-viewing as representative for the viewing selections of the entire world. I am truly sorry.
@kykazaa @unksol Well maybe if you explain that politely to Netflix, they’ll bring the show back.
I saw the thread title and assumed it was about the luggage company.
@PooltoyWolf I did as well and was momentarily panicked! Do you have their luggage? I purchased the aluminum carry on last year and it.
@tinamarie1974 They are far outside my budget, but they look really nice!
@PooltoyWolf it was a splurge for me, but I decided it was worth it because I traveled often pre-covid. Now it is just collecting dust
@tinamarie1974 That’s a mood…
Deeply saddened. That Russian dude was my Spirit Animal.
@TrophyHusband
Yeah I like the way they are moving his story arc. He is getting much more ‘complicated’ and personally conflicted.
@chienfou As I said, my Spirit Animal.
Wife and I watched it. I got bored after the third episode but watched the rest nonetheless.
I like the idea but I think it was poorly executed. The ran too much backstory when it wasn’t necessary and threw in a lot of… unrealistic scenarios that weren’t even really needed in the first place.
The whole thing had a “trying too hard” vibe to it by having people make decisions and do things that just isn’t characteristic to them. I could go on and on about it but I won’t. It just felt fake and forced most of the time.
My wife’s biggest complaints is how their tears trickled down and dripped off of their cheeks in a zero-gravity environment but that didn’t bother me so much as I understand the limitations of a limited budget sci-fi production like this.
I’m not going to miss season 2, but if someone else happens to pick it up I might give it another go to see what they do with it.
@mOONmOON
Mine kept getting caught up in the fact that Hillary Swank had makeup and lipstick on during the scenes from the moon site and on the flight itself…
