The end of an era
47Some of you may remember, 4 years ago, Meh sold a Fukubukuro on April 1st (much like they’re doing today, except without the Mehrathon). A few of us that bought them got a little surprise in the guise of a freight truck.
That day, approximately 175 pairs of Cornfield Electronics Trip Glasses with dead batteries were left in my garage (much to my wife’s dismay).
I am sad (or maybe happy?) to report that as of Saturday, I have sold the last pair of trip glasses (much to my wife’s happiness). My garage is empty, and so is my heart. It’s only fitting that the last pair was shipped out today, exactly 4 years after purchase.
After I gave away as many pairs to the neighborhood children and their parents as I could, I donated half of them to my local Goodwill store. The rest I threw on eBay for $24.99 each. After shipping, eBay and Paypal costs, my profit was about $18 on each pair. I sold about 80 of them. Not a bad return on my $5 investment!
Happy Mehrathoning fellow Mehtizens…

Holy crap! People paid that much for them with dead batteries???
Congrats!
@Kidsandliz They sure did. At one point I had a flurry of sales and was shipping them out like 5 at a time. I think someone made a youtube video about them and caused some excitement. A lady in Canada bought 10 of them!
@jsh139 @Kidsandliz How is your ebay seller reputation holding-up? Is it in the negative?
@Kidsandliz @medz Holding up well. I put right in the listing that the battery would need to be replaced, so in theory, no one should have anything to complain about.
Only got one neutral feedback, and that was because the battery was dead, which like I said, I put in huge red words in the listing would need to be replaced. Most people didn’t leave any feedback.
@jsh139 assuming you sold as “New - Other” condition.
@medz
Yeah. I used “New - Other”, which has now been changed to “Open box”, which according to the eBay description is:
That’s actually impressive. Well done! (Will your wife ever forgive you?)
@Distantsoil She will now that they’re out of the garage!
I tried mine once and they made me sick. I guess I’m not cut out for tripping.
@sammydog01 That might have been the desired effect you know
I can’t think of an easier way to make an extra $0.98 per day for 4 years.
I too received 200 pair of those same glasses. I gave a bunch out on Halloween and sold some on Ebay, but in the end I donated the rest too Goodwill too. I will never forget that truck delivering those pallets to my house.
@jsh139 My garage has 3 walls painted and the other wall looks like yours with just the seams and nails painted over. Ceiling not painted either. Why is that? I’ve noticed others in my neighborhood have the same thing. In my case it’s like they ran out of paint and just left it unfinished.
@medz It’s possible they ran out, I guess? None of my garage walls or ceiling is painted. Which wall is unpainted? Is it the one with the doors in it?
@jsh139 No. it’s one of the side walls…maybe it once had some kind of built-in storage on that wall, but the unpainted portion doesn’t make any discernible shapes…
@medz That’s very bizarre. If it had been one of the walls with doors in it, I could see them just being lazy and not wanting to edge/cut in around the openings. Most builders use a paint sprayer for all walls and that’s messy as hell, so they’d need to tape off whatever they didn’t want to get painted.
@jsh139 @medz my guess is the owners only painted the few walls (it’s not common for builders to paint garages unless you pay extra). My garage sure got brighter after I painted it, that bare drywall sure soaks up the light!
I hope you landed a deal today that will IRK your wife…geaux meh…
@amehzinggrace any purchase from Meh IRKs her, so it won’t be that hard
I remember this when from the beginning! So cool to see what happened to them and after so long!
I also always remember in the back of my head someone recieved a ripped pillow stuffed with a black bag inside.
That one always makes me chuckle too. Just so crazy random!
I drove all the way to see the Alamo wearing these and only ended up in the ditch sixteen times.
@PocketBrain I bet AAA was thrilled!
I have literally never heard of or seen these things before today, and they sound like the coolest thing ever. Makes me wish I’d known, so I could have picked up a pair! Would be neat to try at least once, anyhow.
