The Bird Challenge
3Current Challenge: Look out your window. If you see a bird, take a photo of it and post it here.
WHAT’S GOING ON HERE??
The basics: We’re doing a little April Fools’ Day game, asking our users to complete a series of ridiculous, stupid, and fun (we hope) photography/writing/drawing tasks throughout the day.
But why: Because April Fools’ Day has grown tiresome. Sure, maybe we laughed the first few years that corporations took on the challenge of lying to their customers. But then, we got to the point where Continental was tweeting about their new airliner constructed entirely from bacon or whatever and it got a little old. We want to celebrate April Fools’ Day in a fun way.
Okay, but why on March 31st: Because you’re more likely to be tethered to your computer on a Friday than a Saturday.
Will there be winners: Yes! The winner will be whoever gets the most votes on their entry!
Will there be prizes: Yes! The pride of knowing you had some fun on the internet!
So, there won’t be prizes: Correct. Anyway, we hope you enjoy yourself.

Does this bird qualify?
@Rueki I don’t think you saw these outside your window.
@Targaryen That depends on your definition of window. My computer is technically a window and it is running Windows so perhaps it does count.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Rueki @Targaryen I have to agree with this analysis.
@brainmist @Rueki Fair, please proceed.
Checked the live security cameras, but no birds. Too windy, I think.
@medz fly, you fools.
no birds today, it’s pretty windy
/image shoebill
@awk I saw these in a video they’re pretty wierd.
Lois, have you heard?
@cmacrun Hillarious
@cmacrun
No birds at the feeder. I can hear them singing but they’re all hiding. WHY, BIRDS? WHY?
@sammydog01 You should set up a little camera.
@78firebird Alright I need some new shorts.
@78firebird what fresh hell is this
Heard some little birds earlier, but all I got now are these
@jennafer74 I like seeing turkeys wandering around.
@Targaryen Me too, except when they’re in the middle of the road and can’t decide which side they want to be on. lol
@jennafer74 @Targaryen they wouldn’t let me get out of the car last time I saw them.
@sammydog01 @Targaryen They can be mean lil bastards!
@jennafer74 @sammydog01 Run at them and yell “I am an Apex Predator!”
@jennafer74 Wow, I wish I had that view outside my window!
@jmhsrv I wonder if birds fly around and look in our windows like “look at the wierdos living in the wooden house all day.”
Gotta be a bird out there somewhere… maybe I’m too dumb to post a photo
@rzaffke Unless you’re a bird trying to pretend like you’re human. What’s your favorite food… human?
@Targaryen seeds…I like a good suet now and then too
@rzaffke Suet, I knew it.
No birds today; they are all hunkered down. Spring still wants to be Winter here. “Spring will finally arrive after three snows on a robin’s tail.” Well, it’s two snows late now!! Come on, Spring!
@JWhirly Just think of all the money you’re saving on not using AC.
@Targaryen I appreciate the optimism!
Plush bird for scale
@heartny Nice do other birds get fooled by this?
@Targaryen I don’t think so. I haven’t seen any birds smashing into my window to bond with the plushie.
theres gotta be one out there somewhere
@rzaffke
@JWhirly @rzaffke Nice coffee cup.
@aaee Nice find.
@mandm Took me a second, a robin?
BIRD!
Crows really piss off my dog. Good thing I saw it before her.
SOMEBODY BETTER COME LIKE MY DAMN BIRD PHOTO- I SPENT A LOT OF TIME ON IT.
@sammydog01 I’m here! Sorry.
@sammydog01 I got ya!
@tinamarie1974
/giphy thank you
@mandm Pretty! Looks like a Japanese painting.
@Kyeh @mandm Yes, this is nice.
@mandm That’s a blue jay? The head is shaped like one.
@mandm @Targaryen Looks like a female cardinal to me – I get bluejays here, they’re bigger and very blue. Unfortunately none right now.
@Kyeh @mandm Ah yeah you’re probably right.
Birbs eating at the birb cafe I’ve set up for my cat’s entertianment
@jtallant Nice - lucky cat!
@jtallant Nice birbs!
I was ready for this one!
@dave is that a mourning dove? Do you have a special camera?
@dave @sammydog01 Got close, or did you have a zoom?
@dave It is a mourning dove, and I’ve got a Logitech Circle View cam stuck with velcro and packing tape to the outside wall of my house pointed at it (about a foot away)
Too windy, although I can hear them (robins?)
These goldfinches showed up last year in the lilacs between my house and my neighbors. Only time I’ve ever seen them!
@Kyeh I love goldfinch. You can buy a special food to attract them.
@tinamarie1974 I should get a bird feeder - I bet my cat would love it! My neighbors have a great one and thrive attracted some wonderful birds that sometimes appear in that hedge.
We’re having a storm, so no birds. But I could take a picture of the half eaten raccoon that cost me >$1k in emergency vet bills last December.
@brainmist EUWWW.
@brainmist (On a non-storm day, I could likely pick up some lovely redwing blackbirds)
We’re under a tornado watch. No birds are out and about right now… but here is my “bird” by my windows
@mbersiam Seems to be a lot of those out and about these days…
Yeah, tornado watch and high winds. I do have a bird nesting on the wreath on my front door, however if I open the door she will come inside, soooooooo. Maybe just imagine I posted a pic!
@tinamarie1974 Wow! Can you sneak around from a different door? That sounds cool but kind of inconvenient.
I’ve been wondering how it’s going with the weather - they keep showing weather maps with St. Louis smack dab in the middle of the tornado zone.
@tinamarie1974 I need to know what kind of bird to picture it.
@Kyeh Ive been using my garage but as soon as they hear it they fly off. It is super inconvenient, but that’s ok. Birdie needs a safe place to nest. It will only last a few months, right. Sigh…
@sammydog01 It looks like a finch w a red chest…little guy. Maybe a house finch?
@tinamarie1974 Maybe when the babies hatch you can get a picture!
@Kyeh oh rest assured that will happen!!!
@tinamarie1974 Thanks, I’ll imagine it looks like this.
@sammydog01 pretty close. The wreath is eucalyptus and sage.
