@robson Thanks for that background. At a big gaming convention last year, I had someone who kept insisting that the T-shirt design I posted above was something related to “a Thing up in the Seattle area”, even after I explicitly told him that the person who makes the shirt had never heard of what he was talking about.
So, of course, he asked “How do you know that?”
At which point I hauled out the figurative clue-by-four and said “Because I designed it and I print it, and I have no clue what you’re talking about.”
If it seemed possible that he was about to buy one, I’d have kept quiet, but he had made it pretty obvious that he never bought T-shirts anyway.
@Cerridwyn Well… yes and no. I did go the other way, but gravity pulled me into my favorite little Italian market for some pizza dough and some mozzarella. Deep dish, cast iron skillet pizzas are a weakness of mine (also a super easy Monday night dinner)
I could see some seafood on pizza, if you are saying the crust is just a way to convey it to your mouth. I remember when ‘ham’ ‘bacon’ anything not red sauce had no place on a pizza and i actual like the club pizza at CPK (salad on a pizza, who knew)
@capnjb
While I can understand your aversion to frozen mussels, they are the only choice locally for most of the time. Occasionally Costco in Montgomery will have fresh ones when I am there, but I am not in there often enough to know if that is a regular thing (they are 30-40 minutes away).
Think of it as fresh roast vs restaurant coffee. I am sure your home roasted is much better, but still, sometimes you want coffee with dessert when you are out at a restaurant… so you settle.
I’m assuming that is the correct French translation
And yes, that IS the translation. It goes back to a member name on a cruise chat board from over 20 yrs ago. We were planning a cruise surprise for my parents’ 50th anniversary.
seafood has a very special place in Italian cuisine, but it’s not on pizza.
Yeah, those pesky herds of anchovies are just overrunning my back 40!
(sorry… I couldn’t resist!)
One of the pizza places I worked at/ran made a taco pizza that was also pretty good. Salsa, Mexican blend cheeses, taco meat, onions. Baked, then covered with chopped lettuce and fresh tomatoes.
@Cerridwyn@Kyeh@chienfou Heh… pizza is about the chew of the crust, the sauce and the cheese. I can make a solid pizza dough, but you really need to rest it for two days or so and I frequently don’t have that sort of patience. I have a legit Italian market around the corner from my office and I can get fermented dough, enough to make two pies, or one really solid deep dish pizza for $4. It’s kind of cheating, but I don’t care Because yum.
@capnjb@chienfou@Kyeh
Nah it’s buying local and supporting a local business while getting your yum on.
Buying pre-cut salad is cheating, unless you’re buying it from the local farmer’s market or the produce stand down the road. Then it’s good for everyone.
That might or might not count (I go with might) when you buy a local brand with a larger distribution so you can even get it at Safeway.
@Cerridwyn@chienfou@Kyeh I am a Type-A OCD with a side of ADHD guy and when I get in my car, I go from point A to point B in the most efficient and direct way possible. And I do not, WILL not, deviate from that. Unless I see a farmer’s market. I’ll do a U-turn for that shizzle.
I like real ones. Not the ones where most of it is the little c***** junkie do dads from some other country. Or even once that people make I mean it is kind of Cute To get like fairy houses, but that’s not why I go to a farmer’s market. One of the reasons I like the local 1 even though it’s Friday morning and a b**** to go to, because it’s just food and flowers
@Cerridwyn@chienfou@Kyeh I love local produce and I don’t care what it costs. I, like you, like to support local farms. I think I may have done a Thanksgoating about that. But if I show up to a market and there are stickers on the produce… I’m out.
@capnjb I have learned not to get too excited about tomatoes at some of the local farmer’s markets; apparently, some of the habitual vendors have learned that a) Some people actually want green tomatoes, b) Green tomatoes will turn red by next week if they don’t sell this week, and c) Because the marksclientele can’t tell that the red ones were picked over a week ago, they won’t know that they’re flavorless lumps until it’s way too late.
But bad editing…
@chienfou You assume there was any editing at all.
“Keep Clam” is the Ivar’s motto. It’s a Seattle fast food fish & chips (and clams too) chain
@robson I love Ivars!!! Do their sugar packets still say “You are Ivar’s sugar”?
@Kyeh Probably, IDK for sure. I don’t normally use sugar, next time I’ll check!
I can’t imagine they’ve changed it, they love all their cheesy/cute slogans, and their menu is mostly unchanged for all the years I’ve gone there…
@robson I’m happy that they’re still in business - I haven’t been there for decades but I remember it fondly.

Now I want clams. Or at least mussels. Now I have to go ‘the other way’ when I leave work. Thanks jerks.
@capnjb Clams! Mmm!
@capnjb well… did you
@capnjb @Cerridwyn
Aldi sells a pretty decent frozen mussels in garlic butter.

(also a super easy Monday night dinner)
@capnjb @Cerridwyn You could have topped it with clams.
@Cerridwyn @Kyeh True. And seafood has a very special place in Italian cuisine, but it’s not on pizza.
@chienfou Sorry, but no frozen mussels ever.
And can I just start calling you Mad Dog? I’m assuming that is the correct French translation.
@capnjb @Kyeh
Meh
