Terry Pratchett's Hogfather
10We just did our semi-annual re-watch of Terry Pratchett’s “Hogfather”.
I don’t know if its the best Christmas movie ever but it is certainly in the top five for us; we usually do a summer viewing also when it seems like Christmas is forever away still.
(This second video is one of the reasons its such a great movie)

@Cerridwyn I know book. I saw one once.
@Cerridwyn @therealjrn Read the book many times. The movie does lose some in comparison (as most movies from books do) but they still did such a fine job of getting the important parts on the screen.
Rewatching it now. Re-read the book a month or so ago.
Never watched it, never read it, never heard of it…
@JnKL Ditto. Didn’t know it was a thing.
TNX for the reminder. The novel is in my top ten pTerry and I had no issue with the movie. Susan Sto Helit (attractive in a skinny way) is one of my favorite characters.
@Lighter Ditto. And Michelle Dockery was absolutely marvelous in the role.
Is it entirely goth, death, & dreary, or does it has some semblance of “traditional” Christmas cheer?
(please don’t assume my reasons for asking - I’m trying to see WHICH kids and relatives to watch it with. Goth, D & D have a place!)
@G1 I would say: Not Goth or dreary at all. A lot of NONtraditional Christmas(like) cheer.
@G1 @rockblossom
As Rockblossom said. Its full of jolly and other words that end in -olly. That said it is at turns terrifically funny, dramatic, emotional, philosophical, and delightful. Definite fantasy. Just like Sir Terence David John Pratchett, OBE’s books. I never got any kind of goth or emo vibe from it.
@G1 Very much HEA. (Happily Ever After) Pratchett is always upbeat.
I don’t recall anything scary and I’m pretty timid.
Plenty of thought and idea tickles for grown-ups.
The goths among your relatives will enjoy the costumes until it dawns on them that “goth” is being spoofed. Susan’s GRANDFATHER is one of the great reoccurring Pratchett characters.
Three dangers.
