@ybmuG “Defeated by the roses. Near the Torino-Lingotto station, along a solitary path, Miss Guida Concetta Rinino, 28, carrying a beautiful bunch of roses from a relative, was attacked by a young stranger. The girl, rather than losing her cool, defended herself with extraordinary vigor, using the bunch of flowers as a weapon. Having done that to the rascal, with his face all scratched, he had to make his escape.”
I can’t read the year on this, but this painting could be 100 years old because the area around the Torino-Lingotto station looks nothing like this today and probably since the FIAT Lingotto factory was built there in 1934. The factory was closed around 1980 and is now a hotel, indoor shopping mall, one of the locations of the University of Torino (including the dept. of automotive engineering), and the flagship store of Eataly. The area adjacent to the former factory and the station were developed to be sites for the 2006 Winter Olympics. The ice rink is still in use today, the athletes’ housing is now apartments, and the Olympic village was abandoned and left to rot. It’s an eerily quiet and empty place to visit.
