I kind of want to get a few of these for my kids and as presents, but I got fussed at for buying six soap dispensers last night (after buying two speakers the night before) so I'm going to have to talk it over with my husband when he gets home in the morning before buying.
Do I really need this? Of course not. But I've wanted to try out a USB microscope for a while now, and at $10 (with free shipping thru VMP) this should be worth the price even if I only use it for a couple of hours and then toss it.
I actually had a microscope eerily similar to this one years ago. The one I had: http://www.amazon.com/ThinkGeek-P510002-Digital-Blue-Microscope/dp/B000059TF3 I don't remember much about it, except that the software you used with it had tones of annoying, unnessasary sound effects. Hopefully this has different software, although I'd wager the hardware is the same.
EDIT: Turns out I still have it, I can try to answer questions about it if anyone has them, although I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the software work
I picked up one of these from a... competitor's site. The resolution isn't really that hot and the light source is too weak. Its OK for a novelty though and at this price it falls into novelty range.
I have no use for this product, nor do I have anything to contribute to it's quality or usefulness. I would, however, like to applaud the one who put the mustache on today's "Meh" Button. Well done.
I feels bad.. I want to help the number of people who bought... but I already has one...... IF I got this one i could use the microscope on the microscope and cause a spacial rift that would consume all mankind in a microseption... All hail the our new microscopic leader......
I actually want this. I'd have to go get a Windows machine to use it - the Goodwill here sells P4 XP laptops for $20. Might be worth it... $30 for a portable research level embiggener. Might.
I have no need for this at all. I guess I'll give it to my stepkids or adopt a kid to give it to.
When you mentioned the reviews on Amazon I was amazed at how much they are selling this for.
I'm curious why you didn't mention that? Must be some experiment you are running I'm guessing. See if a difference when you give the contrast and when you don't.
Good news (for Linux users anyway)- the microscope is recognized as a uvc-video (webcam) device, but without a patch, it won't be recognized. Better news is that the patch is readily available, and tested to work with Ubuntu 14.04: Patch for Tasco USB microscope
@dashcloud Any idea for windows users? I got this thing a week ago and spent over 10 hours searching, calling, emailing and cant get it going at all. The BOB software fires up but doesn't see the scope. The scope powers on the light but flashes the LED and wont stay connected for more than a few seconds. If anyone knows anything please let me know since Tasco people don't know anything about this. Tried compatibility mode, installing as admin and everything else I could think of. Thanks for any info

I agree with the mehgnificent Irk on this one.
I guess Meh has decided to just get the Mac-compatible questions out of the way.
We're actually holding out for a Pentium II question on this one
Yeah I bought one. Hoping we can use it to view and photograph tiny watch parts and engraved info on the watches my husband sells on ebay.
When my kids get bored with it, maybe then they'll figure out how to mount it to a Nerf gun.
Renewed-Catastrophic-Brother
I'm digging these order numbers
Now you can actually see how much I care.
But in all seriousness, this is actually a pretty solid deal through one mediocre search of the 'zon at $44.50.
Rating 3.5/5 Stars
Pentium III or higher? Sweet! 1999 rocks!
I wonder if the software is Windows 3.1 compatible?
Praise Jebus. Here's one I can skip.
Yup, I've been buying way too many mehs so far.
Does it work with a Mac?
If you want to see what's really in a Big Mac, then yes...
HA! Zulilly is overselling this microscope by calling it "research-quality"
Let's cure cancer!

I researched my mustache with it earlier. Q: what does it look like enlarged on a screen? Hypothesis: kinda neat. Hypothesis was confirmed.
I hate sites that make you sign up before you can even see things on their site to see if it is worth signing up for.

LOL. I passed on the soap dispensers and snagged 1 'scope. YOU KIN DO IT !!!
Oh shit, the background behind the microscope is moving!!! Eeewww.... Hot cell dividing action!
Shit, @BillLehecka, be careful! You almost created an internet!
This is how Skynet starts, making internets willy-nilly.
I can create an Internet? If I had a Time Machine, I'd go back and stop Al Gore, then say I made it.
I clicked the hotlink. I don't know what I was expecting.
Guys. Through hours and hours of research I dug through thousands of websites to find @snapster's dark dark secret. Your eyes will totally explode when we show you what we found in Matt Rutledge's office.
Also, you will literally die laughing if you watch 12 Penguins that are just done with their monday!
Shit, we've been found out! SHUT IT DOWN, EVERYONE RUN
Thanks for posting, now I realize that is all I have ever wanted. No eyes, no deal!
@snapster how about selling bags of googly eyes? Also, @CowboyDann 12 Penguins?
eh, I provided a link to buzzfeed. I'm sure they'll have something close enough.
i was pretty excited for penguins...

Exactly why I bought mine!
I like the new meh. It's got a mehstache.
This would be a great deal if I wanted a digital microscope...

It sucks they force the software usage. It can't be just a camera capture windows device?
No it can't, at least not mine. It's especially annoying since the software is pretty bad, and it makes sounds literally any time you click
You had me up until the not compatible with macs bit.
These 'scopes always lead me on and then let me down with that issue.
That was what sold me!

If anyone's on the fence . . . it comes with Sea Monkeys!!!
My toenails are going to be SO inspected.
oh how I wish I could double-meh this [MEH] [MEH] (red stamped - file 13.)
How far can I see with this thingy? Will "120x magnification" be enough till nearest girl's locker rooms?
The song that goes along with the microscope is reminiscent of Tom Lehrer's songs. I approve.....but I still won't buy it.
Ahh...the magic is truly back..Anticipation, look at meh, only to find disappointment at the junk. Yet optimism overcomes, as tomorrow is another day!
Yay meh! You have renewed my faith in the power of junk to put a smile on my face. But at least it's priced like the junk it is!!

Mehstache

Just saying. Think of the possibilities. What different tears look like under microscope
haha awesome
That is some really weird tears. "Tears of Momemtum, Redirected???"
probably has more to do with what she ate/drank on those days than her emotions
I have a 5-year-old son. In for one.
I can hardly wait to show my 3 year old and 14 month old granddaughters what oatmeal and cat litter look like under high-power magnification!
I have no need for this at all. I guess I'll give it to my stepkids or adopt a kid to give it to.

By the way of course we all know what "VMP" is. So don't bother telling us what VMP is.
Vagcake Making Process?
Vacuuming Money Process. It's a valued added program to help suck the money out of us in a less invasive manner.
New most boring day ever.
Wow actually 115 people bought this.
Give some of that credit to Irk
What's this "we" bit? I didn't see you on the video, only Irk.
I bought 3. I have some LEDs, as I hear the light on the scopes are not so good. I hope to use them with Linux.
Let me know if you find/write a driver
@hamjudo, see below on this (if you use Ubuntu).
I received my Tasco Digital Microscope this week. My God. It really is meh.
Good news (for Linux users anyway)- the microscope is recognized as a uvc-video (webcam) device, but without a patch, it won't be recognized.

@dashcloud That's odd -- mine works fine (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit). We put some sea monkeys in and watched them come to life!
