@f00l I’m not sure I’ve ever had the Fuel City tacos…should make an effort to get some. I’m on the north side, but do pass through those areas on road trips. La Picosa is appropriately situated in an area between the snooty Addison restaurants and the pretentious Galleria area. There is about a 4 block radius of supporting shops and restaurants that are catering to the actual local clientele.

those were definitely not street tacos. they were served sorta like a lazy susan with multiple different meat, cheeses and fillings and fresh made tortillas that you sat at the table and filled while guzzling dos equis or the like.

Quesadillas are great, their ‘Original Burrito’ is awesome and not too spicy for my not-hot-tolerant taste. Milanesa is good. Their Flan is delightful too. And they carry Mexican Coke and other sodas (real sugar not high fructose caca).
@duodec Hmm, I’ve been there. I don’t remember it well, but the quesadillas WERE good. When we’re in that area we end up going to Indian Bistro more often than not if we’re eating out. God, I love Indian Bistro.
There are a few legit places around here for street tacos, but probably my favorite is a little hole in the wall named Taqueria Sin Fronteras. Good tacos under three bucks apiece, $2.50 if you get them on corn tortillas like the taco gods intended. There are probably eight or ten different taco meat choices including lengua, chicharron, tripa, and barbacoa, plus there are tortas, and they do menudo on the weekends but I haven’t worked up the courage for that. It’s attached to a convenience store that used to be an exxon but no longer sells gas.
English is barely spoken there, although they welcome gringos like me. When it gets dark they shut down the restaurant and send out the food truck to park near Louisiana Downs.
If you’re ever passing through Northwest Louisiana on I-20 and want tacos, take the short detour (it’s maybe half a mile from the exit on the interstate), it’s worth it. Try the al pastor!
Not exactly ‘street’ but awesome nonetheless. Stopped at Lone Star Taqueria in Salt Lake City while on vacay. Found it listed on www.tvfoodmaps.com as it was on Triple D. Totally lived up to it’s reputation. Had a carne adovada (marinated pork), desebrada (shredded beef), and a salmon taco that were equally amazing. Chips were delicious and drinks were really reasonable ($3.75 for a bottle of Dos Equis). https://www.lstaq.com/
Of all the photos on the internet, it sure is hard to find a picture of a taco lying on the street… (“street taco”) Best I could find is a gif of the kid who dropped his taco, but that was not really on a street.
I’ve enjoyed most everything at Velvet Tacos in FtW (better, in my humble opinion, than Salsa Limon). I expect most of their other locations are similar in quality.

Street tacos can contain any ingredients that are local to the SW, super fresh, fresh-chopped and spiced, fresh-cooked, and simple.

The first Street tacos I ever had were decades so, on the south side of the Rio Grande, from grill cart venders.
I guess the criteria for “street tacos” is very fresh, local, simple ingredients. Cooked fresh, often as the customers stand then watching.
Served immediately. Resulting in excellent food and sometimes in greasy hands.
So, yes, I would guess that they have wonderful ones in TJ.
