Swype users: how bad is your Swype?
2Uncorrected after this line:
I usr Swype all the tinge and I’m not sue if it had made me lazy or if it just sucks, but I fibs myself corrective crazy words it tries to out in all the tone. Or is really starting tho get tho me as I think I need to reset it.
Is your Swype experience as bad as mine? Or Ann I just a lazy deeper?
(Actually, I’m using the Samsung keyboard with swipe input enabled. Actual name brand Swype might be better)

I use HTC’s Trace and it works really well. It’s rare that it flubs up.
I just reinstalled SwiftKey as that’s what I used before. So far it’s a thousand times better. But I read up a little after starting this thread and I’m not the only one who thinks these things are going downhill.
@djslack swiftkey it is for me
Highly recommend the Google keyboard for all Android users. Typed this using swipe with no real issues other than it not recognizing the proper noun.
@jbartus I use gboard on ios and like it well enough (except that I seem to have to switch to it once in every context, including per conversation in text messages). I will have to test it against SwiftKey and see which I like better here.
the original “Swype” that was preinstalled on Galaxy devices in the past, was **** awesome.
Since becoming a standalone app (albeit, only ¢99), it has become increasingly worse, and I now see myself on the verge of finding its replacement
@heartX0X0 it appears you are missing 3 *
@heartX0X0 also, it’s ok to say “fucking” here.
@carl669
Are you fucking sure? Did you fucking check?
@f00l fucking hell. I’m an adult.
/giphy I do what I want
@carl669
As long as you’re fucking sure, do what you fucking want.
Oh, WTF.
Just fucking do it.
I can swore excellent you brokenness don’t you IRS perfect how fatter you input is didn’t work right.
@f00l
Gboard in action there.
This is topping in Goddard without any correction. It seems to be ok but maybe not as accurate as Swiftkey right off the bat.
Doesn’t it do gif search within the keyboard?
Yes it does, and is useful after a fashion with meh by opening the gif in a new tab and remembering to remove https if present.
@djslack Goddard?
@jqubed Gboard did not recognize its own name.
@f00l @djslack recommend giving any new board a week or so of regular use before judging it unless it’s really abhorrent. Minor spacing differences between different boards can play hell with your muscle memory even if it’s just a few millimeters different.
@jbartus
A few weeks of practice and muscle memory dev is a radical underestimation. For me anyway.
But it’s cool. Getting better. Kinda.
@jbartus Absolutely. But even after ten seconds of use, both Gboard and Swiftkey are beating the pants off the old Samsung swipe input. All I had to do was get frustrated enough to change, I should have done this long ago.
@djslack yeah IDK what happened to Samsung. I was okay on my S7 then I got the S8 and it went out the window.
I used to use Swype as it came with the keyboard on an older phone but yes, it did get bonky after a while and I recall unloading it. Now I have the google keyboard with whatever swipe thing it has with it and so far, so good (about 10 months now).
SwiftKey is superior, in my opinion.
I’ve done the Swype, done the Swiftkey, which got really flaky, then to Flecksy - that all said and done, I am absolutely LOVING Gboard. As easy as it is easy to hate on Google. They do their shit right.
speech to text works better IMHO

@Cerridwyn i use this app
Used to be so good. Now it’s so bad. But better than not swiping to type.
Although, reading the comments, looks like I should try out Google’s offering.
For one particular use case of mine, the keyboard suggestions were so good that I only needed to swipe the first word, and then tap the rest of the words.
@dashcloud Your writing was literally very predictable.
Swype has gotten progressively worse in the past year or so. I really regret upgrading the app in hopes of getting improvement. The one thing I’ve liked about having to switch to my old phone while my current one is getting fixed is that at least it has a version of Swype that works reasonably well. I don’t get how they could screw it up so much and just keep making it worse.
I tried switching to Google’s keyboard for a few weeks, but I found myself really missing the features of Swype that made it so nice, broken though they are now. I keep meaning to talk to this guy I know who works or worked at Swype and ask him what happened to make it go so wrong. Maybe see if he can hook me up with an older build from when it still worked.
Maybe the reason mine works well is I have a Samsung Galaxy 5? Maybe a good reason for keeping my beat up phone? (Only had to choose two words from the above) I need more memory though.
Google keyboard is pretty good except it switches “of” with "if’ a lot. Some other quirks like that.
@medz
Yeah it can learn bad stuff.
It’s good but not what it could be.
Until someone makes a keyboard with cut copy and paste shortcuts like Swype does I’m not switching.
My swype is pretty good, but I have to teach it swear words.
