Anyone got ideas on sizes? My daughter needs a new backpack, but it needs to be able to handle a huge five inch zippered binder, plus a one inch binder, and a textbook or two. Can any of these handle those sizes and the weight?
@PurplePawprints can’t find any sizes, except that it holds a 17" laptop. Won’t buy till I know for sure, because I’ve been burned before by the backpacks that won’t hold the bigfuckoff folders.
@tartanknickers Same here. I bought three backpacks from here a while back that claimed to hold 17 inch laptops. It does, but it’s a tight squeeze for a slim 17 inch, and it won’t hold my thicker gaming laptop. The one I’d planned to give to my daughter definitely doesn’t hold her binder. Overall, those were good quality, but I wouldn’t have bought three if I’d realized it wasn’t going to fit my kids’ needs for school.
Calling me a cheapskate? That is low! I prefer frugal or thrifty. Definitely not wasteful. And since I have plenty of backpacks that may lack in features but are there when I need them: Meh!
@Pantheist I will only ever always buy Jansport bags. My mom got my daughter a Jansport when she was in kindergarten… she is a junior in high school and is still using the same giant pink backpack.
Apparently if she ever manages to break it we can mail it in and get a new one with their lifetime warranty.
@spacezorro@Pantheist thanks for the endorsement. Gotta get new ones for my kids bcause the Wmart versions dont make it two school years. So gonna compare to sizes @WTFsunshine gave (thanks!!) and make a choice.
@mollama Jansport bags are great. I had the same one from 8th grade through high school, and then I turned it into a backpack for fishing. Eventually my puppy chewed one of the straps off.
I bought a newer style Jansport probably over 10 years ago that looks brand new. Granted, I don’t use it for school anymore… Just when I go on short trips.
@Pantheist i had a green one. my first ‘real’ backpack. i got it because it was The Thing To Do but i really did love it and i think it’s still alive and well in my parents’ basement somewhere looking practically new. (just also found my embroidered LL bean backpack down there too - that thing’s also still in perfect shape. had to upgrade in high school to something larger to be able to hold the ton of books and notebooks we had to carry home and back every night. i think they were training us all to become some kind of pack animal.)
come to think of it though, the jansport one with it’s 70s looking patches, pins, and safety pins with rainbow beads on it would probably fit right back in. sigh.
I still have mine (Navy blue) that I’ve owned for at least 20 years. It was definitely my high school bag, not sure how far back into middle school it went. I still use it on occasion when I need a basic bag, but I’ve gotten so used to the extra pockets on the modern ones that I find it hard to use if I need things organized.
If only I could find a Koosh ball zipper pull for the outer pocket of mine. The original one dry rotted and fell to pieces while in storage
@Nuurgle Haha I used to have a blue one with a leather bottom. No idea what happened to that one. I lost it at some point before high school. I hope whoever ended up with it is still using it.
To be clear, this is not the same “SwissGear” brand that makes the backpacks with the red metallic badge, but rather a completely different company named “Swiss Elite”?
So, a few weeks ago, I was walking home, fairly tipsy, and spilled nearly a whole container of curry in the bottom of my backpack. And being fairly tipsy, I didn’t notice, or clean it out when I got home. My apartment smelled horrible for the next week.
So now, I can replace the old pack I threw out. Whew!
Well hell, I just became a tangible-judgmental-antelope. Needed a reason to validate my vmp membership and this is a useful non Bluetooth, butt hole squirting, no-knife-here reason to do it. For those who wanted sizes: the Everyday is 21x13.5x15" 2.1lb. backpack and the Mobile Office is 13.9x21.2x5" 2.4 lb. backpack and all I could find on the Urban Mobility was that it holds up to a 17". laptop and most call it a “cycologist” backpack due to the reflective safety stuff on it.
am i the only cheapskate who specifically almost never orders pasta when eating out because of the insane markup? you could make ten pounds of pasta for what they charge you even at a take out sub shop. any other entree, while it might be a couple dollars more, is likely a better “deal.” (basically, as a cheapskate i’d just assume not go out to eat unless you have the money to enjoy it.)

So, ‘fits up to 17 inches’ is key. Technically I can get my 17 inch HP Envy in it, but have to twist and pry the zipper over the corner in order to zip it up. For future reference, it fits 16 inch better.
I will use it to see if the fabric will stretch a bit. Otherwise, it appears to be a solid bag and i’m sure i’ll find another use for it if the 17 doesn’t end up working out.
Not too well made. Zipper problems within 48 hours. Have to be careful with it, which was NOT my plan going in. Got what I meh-ed for. Also my fault for not realizing it’s not really the Swiss I thought it was.
I got the Mobile Office version and have been using it as my office bag for a little over a year. I only go into the office once per week, so it gets very light use. Despite that, both of the plastic glides that hold the straps have broken. The first went months ago. The second yesterday.

@PurplePawprints See sizes below - it was the best I could do for you.

I hope this helps.
@PurplePawprints I just put my 15in(17in od) MacBookPro into the Mobile Office pack and it went in there easily. The other 2 packs are the same size.
Best Irk Ever.
Irk, I love your frilly socks!! Did you get those on meh?
Now I have that freakin’ Dora the Explorer song in my head. Backpack, backpack…
I never know what to expect from the Swiss. Their knives are pretty good but their cheese is full of holes.
@stilesja You’re confusing the Swiss with the Spanish Inquisition.
@mike808 Well that was unexpected.
@ParadisePete NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
Calling me a cheapskate? That is low! I prefer frugal or thrifty. Definitely not wasteful. And since I have plenty of backpacks that may lack in features but are there when I need them: Meh!
what size laptops fit in the bags?
@jaybird My 15in (17in od) MacBook Pro will easily fit into the Mobile Office bag. The other 2 bags are the same size.
What’s wrong with my current backpack?
@Pantheist I will only ever always buy Jansport bags. My mom got my daughter a Jansport when she was in kindergarten… she is a junior in high school and is still using the same giant pink backpack.

@spacezorro I don’t even know how I ended up with this one, but it’s been at least 10 years and I’m not the first owner.

@harveydanger Looking at the amazon page, I’d say yeah. Different companies.
@harveydanger Agree. The SwissGear backpacks are always at Sams. Don’t recall the price, however.
@Pantheist The Swiss are out of control.

Convenient timing! I was going to have to shop for a new laptop bag for my SO this week, but now…

@kyriel no offense but your giphy is kinda freaking me out.
@kyriel That is extremely disturbing! I like it!
@kyriel yes had to save that one
Finally, something to hold all my knives, led lights, bluetooth speakers and bidets.

So where does the $49 price come from? It’s not listed on Amazon.
@wickhameh It’s at Fry’s and a couple other places: https://www.google.com/search?rls=en&q=urban+mobility&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=swiss+elite+urban+mobility
For such attention to model numbers, there a repeat in the listing?

This deal is full of holes.
No information online on the Urban Mobility. Anyone know how much these weigh, empty?
