@chienfou Eh, now that I look closer, probably so. That’s still not going to work when some fool plugs their truck cabin heater into the lighter socket.
(Back when Amazon allowed for comments on reviews, every once in a while I’d tell the 1-star review folks they don’t understand electricity. No shit a 12v 2amp AC adapter won’t power an air compressor!)
What a funny write-up on Amazon.
First it says Amazon’s Choice for “usb heated blanket,” and further down, says "Fit for Driving recorder,electronic dog,car charger and other automotive electronic equipment."
@blaineg@werehatrack There is an actual use case, but people are idiots so you see this more often:
They’re trying to unfuckup the way they strung their Christmas lights, usually. The proper use case is to patch in a generator, and even then, you need a cutover mains disonnect switch, and best left to a professional electrician to fo the work and train you in how to use the backup power system.
A goofball engineer designed a widget with a USB A connector instead of the required B connector. So now you need an illegal (according to the spec) A-A cable to hook it up.
The problem is, if (when) someone gets the bright idea to connect two computers together with an A-A cable, you let all the smoke out.
(Yes, there are A-A data transfer cables, but they’ve got a lump in the middle with a tiny little brain in there.)
@blaineg@mike808@werehatrack A double-male patch cord for a generator connection is commonly referred to as a “Deadman”. The proper cord has a male end to plug into the generator with a female connector to connect to the house wiring (with an interlock/transfer switch). At the house end, there is a special male socket with the prongs recessed in the fixture.

Who needs brains, right? Just hook that shit up like the boss says. Performs as directed by management. Meets the minimum required, boss. No effort was wasted on that safety bullshit. Fuck regulations. 'Murica!
And no, a USB-C version would not be the Answer.
@werehatrack
I’m confused, I thought that was a USB-C version

Dunno. This could become a hot item, or the market could just burn out.
@rockblossom Ba-dum-tsssssh.
@rockblossom @werehatrack
It’ll run a 12v coffee maker, right?

@narfcake I didn’t really expect the same pile-o-crap to be on Amazon, but…

@Kyeh I know androids dream of electric sheep, but what to electronic dogs poop?
Oh, wait, batteries!
@blaineg @Kyeh

@blaineg @shahnm
That fridge has kind of a smug expression.

@blaineg @Kyeh @rpstrong
Now, that is a core dump.
This made me remember the etherkiller cable.
Need a power patch cable?
@mike808 Null modem, or straight thru?
@blaineg @mike808 Phase handshake.

@mike808 @werehatrack Yep, I see the same thing at work with USB cables.

@blaineg @werehatrack
and then there’s this guy… Please get him a Darwin Award.
A proper transfer switch is NOT that expensive.
