@Achromatter@Kyeh@TheLunk I think Amazon has jumped the shark since a year or two ago. Many of their reviews mix several different products, not always similar.
And since they quit allowing comments on reviews, I now rate the whole Amazon buying experience as no more than 3 stars, down from 4.5. I often learned more from the comments than the actual reviews. And just because I looked at something a few days ago doesn’t mean I need emails for 3 days in a row suggesting I buy it.
@Achromatter@phendrick@TheLunk
I agree - it’s gotten frustrating to shop there because looking for something gives you a zillion crappy hits for things that are “similar” but often not really that close, and of course the reviews can be dubious.
As mentioned the price comparison is between 2 different types of cookware. Other than the brand name could anyone tell if the quality of the item is worth the difference in comparable cookware?
@PooltoyWolf@yakkoTDI Make that 3… I guess that’s what makes it a “terrible” joke? Not funny and makes no sense?
That is unless you cross your eyes and look at it through a mirror smudged with Vaseline… Was “haint” an attempted pun on “haunt” and when I hear “Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” I think of the song by Bachman-Turner Overdrive which originated from Winnipeg, so nowhere close to Florida or even somewhat resembling southern rock… Nope, I got nothing…
@ciabelle@PooltoyWolf@yakkoTDI
Well, TIL: https://haints.org/what-is-a-haint/
A “haint” is a type of ghost or evil spirit that originated in the beliefs and customs of the Gullah Geechee people, descendants of African slaves who live predominantly in the Low Country and on the barrier islands off the coast of the Carolinas, Georgia, and north Florida.
@PooltoyWolf
I was already familiar with haint - I think it’s fallen out of usuage. If you asked your parents or grandparents, my guess is they would know what it is.
I listen to a Halloween party cd every year, and this little ditty has haint in it. The song’s fun, but you can skip to 1:15 for the reference.
FIRST OFF THE COMPARISON LINK IS FOR CAST IRON NOT CERAMIC , THE STAUB CERAMIC 14 INCH ON AMAZON ARE 2 FOR $49. SO WHY ARE YOU SELLING 1 FOR $39 WHEN THEY ARE $24.50 ON AMAZON … SOMEONE IS ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL HERE.
Is it Meh your looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see your raised brow
You’re all seeking the deals
And Meh has forgotten how
'Cause you know just the other day
There was junk like power banks
And now Meh is selling quality
Oh! No thanks
Seemed like a great price but I’m gonna pass since they were going to be a gift, reviews saying cracks at 400f degree’s in the oven doesn’t sound promising.
Wow that picture (particularly at the handles) really looks like cast iron – between that and the mix-up with the comparison link I have no idea what these actually are.
If you look at the pictures in the Amazon link, the thumbnails don’t match the larger pictures. The smaller ones actually look porcelain (especially the blue one), and the handles match these handles. Weird.
So these are the comparable prices for the ceramic ones on Amazon. The largest size is NOT shown in the Amazon listing; for that one what’s shown is the cast iron.

@ybmuG Then buy somethin’ and you no longer shan’t have nothin’ no more.
@ybmuG and doon need none of these …
Price comparison is for the equivalent enameled cast iron pans. These are just ceramic.
Is it me? That Amazon link is to cast iron dishes, this says ceramic/porcelain, no?
@Achromatter @TheLunk
Good catch - the link SHOULD be this:
https://www.amazon.com/Staub-40508-083-Ceramics-Baking-9-inch/dp/B07GVTL88C
This is still a good price here at Meh though.
The Amazon listing is weird, they have the ceramic and iron ones mixed up on the same page.
@Achromatter @Kyeh @TheLunk The other shock is that it is 4+ stars unless that star rating is for both kinds combined.
@Achromatter @Kyeh @TheLunk I think Amazon has jumped the shark since a year or two ago. Many of their reviews mix several different products, not always similar.
Often, their pictures and their descriptions have little to do with each other. Figure this one out:

Despite being born and raised in Florida, I guess I’m not ‘southern’ enough to get the joke.
@PooltoyWolf That makes two of us.

@ciabelle @Kyeh @yakkoTDI Your reply here is the first I’ve ever heard of this concept. The More You Know!
@ciabelle @Kyeh @PooltoyWolf I guess we are too far south of the South to have heard of this.
@PooltoyWolf

@die13lda @PooltoyWolf This must have been recorded at least a couple of years before Kiss.

@mellowirishgent Link please & thank you
@mellowirishgent no need to yell here!
@mellowirishgent do you have a link? I couldn’t find that item @ 2 for $49. I found 1 for $69. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GVVFH6H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_W8FQRNX6V131WJE0DSBB

Will this arrive chipped and broken in pieces like the one I ordered from Amazon?
@warpedrotors Maaaaaaaybe…
Only one way to find out
@RogerWilco ship myself to Texas and hide in the packaging?
@warpedrotors get out of my head
@warpedrotors Mine just did…
@klointheridge
If you haven’t done so already, send a message to support – because 6 years ago on this day, this was the video of the day:
@narfcake I have, thank you. And this pack job looked more like the before. Even the “air peanuts” were flat. Haha. Amazing 2 came undamaged.
@warpedrotors both of mine showed up great and I’ve used them several times each
572F is 300C, so less arbitrarily specific and more nice round number.
@larryg You got there first. Somebody had to say it!

No lids, “just ceramic” - hard pass.
Too many things about this offering that are sketchy and misrepresented. Pass.
@mattig88 So… just like most other offers here?
The decoding is part of the fun. and risk.

Can someone explain today’s terrible joke? Legitimately cannot understand.
