95% of my phone usage is the camera. I should probably just get a small digital camera, since I think I’ve received a total of two non-spam calls in the past three years.
@brennyn@Kyeh@Lynnerizer My brother never had a cell phone until about 10 years ago when I gave him a cheapo that he could use as a camera and play with the apps while at home. Since then I and others have given him their old phones. He still doesn’t have cell service and doesn’t want it but loves playing with his “camera” and carries it everywhere. He also loves how crazy people get when he says he doesn’t have a cell phone.
Me: I text a lot and get business calls.
@brennyn@callow@Lynnerizer
A good friend of mine doesn’t have a cell phone and it’s been a real hassle sometimes; especially during the pandemic there were places where you were supposed to call from outside the business before you picked up an order and he couldn’t.
@NapkinEater In order, from most frequent, my uses are:
Check time
Check weather
Check texts
Delete spam/useless texts
Check call logs
Delete spam/useless call/voice logs
Find something on WWW.
Get directions
Answer or make a call.
I use my home land line frequently, but don’t consider my cell phone as much of a business tool. Generally only carry it when away from the house.
And I don’t care for little games on a little screen.
Camera, but not really for “photography”. Yes, I do use it for that, but most of the time I’m using the camera as a notepad. Especially at work. It’s a lot faster to take a picture of an error message, or part number, serial number, or part configuration than it is to write it down.
@blaineg Ooooooh, yeah! I still remember the first time that the boss wanted me to fax him the contract for something that needed to be executed the following day, which would have required that I get the hotel front desk clerk to send them that evening after the show had closed for the day. Instead, two minutes later he had photos in his inbox because I used the phone to shoot them to him. And he still groused, despite the fact that he didn’t have to wait until ten that evening to see the paperwork, and he could read these easily because they weren’t from a low-res fax machine!
@narfcake@werehatrack
I believe the issue was manipulation of the attachment AFTER it was sent.
A fax will normally have a time stamp on it that shows what it looked like on arrival. Of course, you could cut and paste, then photocopy the fax to show that correct header after you did that, but that would never work… right?? I think that is part of the reason a lot of office fax/printer setups make a receipt copy when they are sent.
YouTube.
hands down.
I pay lots of money to Google every couple years, and Verizon monthly, so that I can watch silly videos about people doing stupid stuff wherever/whenever I am.
is a Cat or a car involved in the video? even better.
Maybe txt/chat/exchange stupid memes and YTShorts/Tik toks with the GF a close second.
but mostly YouTube.
Uh… the phone?
@shahnm Don’t be silly. Why would I want to talk to anyone?
@blaineg Whether or not anyone uses it much, or wants to use it at all, would the phone not at least count as a “standard app/feature” of… a phone?

@brennyn Same here, camera.
@brennyn @Kyeh
SAME HERE, about the 2 non-spam phone calls!

You mean my camera can make phone calls?
@detailer Well, if you’ve got a SIM enabled and have paid the bill, or you can use wifi calling, sure!
@werehatrack I was being sarcastic
@detailer @werehatrack Never explain a joke.
Can you believe I actually use it to make phone calls and send texts? Yup.

@werehatrack
some people are just NEVER happy!
@chienfou @werehatrack IIRC, decades back, faxes can be construed as legal documents while emails were not because “attachments can be manipulated”.
(As if something couldn’t be manipulated before hand, printed, then faxed …)

I demand a recasting of the poll since Clash of Clans or Pokémon Go were not hard-coded options!
Of the options, I use weather the most frequently (probably 2-3 times a day).
However, messaging is the primary use for my phone, and second place isn’t even close.
Messaging, hands down.
Or even more basic, checking the time…even though I’m wearing a watch.
Alarm clock. I don’t like alarm clock bc of the light so I just use my phone.
Cats.
That is all.
Moto Action chop chop flashlight is the best.
