And 2016 ends with my Sprint account being hacked and some bad word bad word bad word asshat adding 2 IPhone 7 128GB phones with their own minute plan to my account.
Soooo FML and last week of this year with a dry brillo.
@sarahsandroid Checked my account last week, found astonishing numbers. Called Sprint, actually got a good CS person who issued a credit. We thanked each other for mutual civility.
@sarahsandroid $609?! That’s literally 25 times my phone bill. Hopefully it all works out fine for you, that really sucks. I’m not well acquainted with the process of adding lines but it does seem a little weird that they wouldn’t verify with the account holder in some way.
Also, they had a ton of phones to choose from and they chose an iPhone 7? They really are stupid thieves.
Sounds like Sprint is desperate enough for new business they leave their accounts vulnerable.
Anyone can get hacked but at least our AT&T account requires knowledge of the PIN to make a change. Even in person at a corporate store after showing ID.
@RedOak I know, that’s why we went with them. But we had to set up new accounts, port the numbers over and cancel the old account. And Cricket couldn’t do that without our PIN.
@lisaviolet even tho it has been what, almost 2 yrs since AT&T bought Cricket, Cricket still isn’t very well integrated.
I’m familiar with AT&T’s prepaid captives (more so GoPhone) as a cheap no contract/payment source of phones for our kids. For example, a GoPhone iPhone 5s (new) for $199 (+ $45 plan card). We also got Nokia 520s and 640s for $20-25 each. Throwaways at that price.
GoPhones are not locked against AT&T postpaid plans but Crickets are. So you can simply swap out the sim. Odd.
@RedOak husband’s basic phone finally died, the speaker in mine (pantech breeze) died a while back, never could hear it ring. Out of warranty. We were no longer under contract with at&t. We were paying $80 and change a month for text and phone, service on a tablet and a whopping 300MB of shared data a month.
We got new phones w/cricket, I got a free smartphone (now no need for a tablet), we paid $30 for a new basic phone for him. And I now get 2.5GB of data - all for the price of $60 a month.
I personally haven’t had problems with Sprint. I had a Boost Pay As You Go phone because I don’t use the phone often (which means I also don’t own a smartphone; maybe I should get one for 2017?). My previous carrier was Tracfone - there were so bad that you couldn’t make calls inside the house. You had to go in the front yard to get reception.
@JT954 When I was on Verizon, I couldn’t make calls inside my house either. Had to go to the corner of the driveway to make any. It was really exciting to have service inside my house when we switched to AT&T. Now I’m on Project Fi personally (rest of the family is still on AT&T) and almost always on T Mobile. Never have any service issues and sometimes have service in areas the rest of the family doesn’t.
@mahoneyli I really like it. The coverage in my area is great, so I don’t have any problems with service. As for the paying… My monthly bill is $24.36. That, however, it probably less than any reasonable person would pay. My plan is the base $20 for unlimited talk and text, and I have the 1GB for $10. Because Fi refunds you for any unused data, I get $10 refunded every month. So the $4.36 is just the tax and stuff, which would probably vary depending on where you live. I’d also expect people to actually use their data plan, but I’m currently trying a thing where I don’t use any cellular data for a year. Nine months in so far. I don’t use much data anyways so when I did, I still was only paying about $26.
Did you get this resolved? Just found out the same thing has happened to me. Got a letter in the mail with warranty information for my “new device”. Called and checked on my bill and is it $600+. Have to wait until the morning to speak to the fraud department.
goddamn motherfucking shit-eating
Fixed that for you.
@Pavlov my hero
Looking forward to the $27 credit from all the Note7 nightmare resolution…and almost needed 911 when the bill posted today for $609.00.
@sarahsandroid
Jeez. Must check my cell bill.
Sux sux sux sux sux sux sux.
As monthly Goat @f00l

@OldCatLady Guy with fraud department was not the most verbal fellow, but he was adequate. Now we wait.

Well that sucks big time. Hope it isn’t going to drive you to drink trying to get it fixed.
@Kidsandliz
@sarahsandroid
One should not drive themselves to drink. One should always use a designated driver or a ride service.
And Sprint should pay for the booze.

@RedOak I needed mine when we switched to Cricket from AT&T.
@lisaviolet Cricket is AT&T. (You switched billing systems/brands, but you’re still with AT&T.)

@Mehsturbator How do you like Project Fi? How much do you pay?

I went with ting.com and have never regretted it. They have both GSM and CDMA. Pay less than $40/month for 2 lines and actual usage.
oh, you kids & your mobile phones.
