I don’t know who to blame for this but I’m waiting on the USPS to deliver my new SSD so I can upgrade my main work laptop! It needs a fresh install, and the 5400 RPM hard drive is slooooooow.
@therealjrn I updated with W10, but kept all my apps personal stuff. So definitely not clean. But it worked well, and system seems to moving better.
Blame: I guess I probably didn’t have to buy Windows 7 again when I had a hard disk failure years ago. The original W7 key was on the bottom of the computer - thanks to your post pointing this out. Unclean install did not require key.
@mfladd I just bought a Win 10 Pro key from fleabay for $1.90 this afternoon. lol
My main work comp is Win 10 Home, and it does need a SSD so I’m getting ready to swap out hard disks and do a fresh Win 10 Pro install with my $1.90 key and a new ADATA SSD…we’ll see. I’m not touching the old drive until I can make sure everything is legit with the new install.
Yes, if you had Win 7 Pro, it will do that, But this attempt at upgrade did not. The computer came with Win 10 Home. Additionally, it balked at just using one big partition on the new disk.
The BIOS is set to some kind of new thing (new to me) Something to do with something called UEFI boot, EFI systems and GTP disks…
So I used the Windows install utility to delete the one big partition and let it do its thing. Tada! But it installed Win 10 Home on the fresh SSD. I ended up with a boot partition, a recovery partition and the Windows partition. Then I used the Win 10 Pro key in the rebooted fresh install and it upgraded itself.
@mfladd@therealjrn Until the real corporate owner changes their license with Microsoft and revokes all of the unregistered machines using their activation key. You know, because MS charges them for support for X # of keys. So when a horde of people keep reselling the same key over and over to unsuspecting rubes or go into business reselling that same key on ebay themselves, the company it was stolen from takes notice.
The reason it only let you upgrade to Win10 Home is because the original Win7 home keys are encoded in the UEFI BIOS and inside hidden partitions on GPT partitioned disks (used when you have UEFI enabled secure boot OS installed). This goes a long way to preventing root-kits and malware exploits from installing themselves - particularly ransomware.
It is also part of what secures Windows Pro to support BitLocker (disk encryption), Active Directory domains, and native VM hosting.
However, with Win10 Home, you and install WSL which is a damn close to true Linux VM with several supported distros (Ubuntu, Debian, and others).
Just don’t get too married to that Win10 Pro key. It might not last beyond a hardware upgrade.
Oh, and the biggest security issue:
Whomever sold you that key – also has complete control over all files on your Windows OneDrive and in your Office365. Because the owning company it was stolen from does and has access to all company files, including Microsoft cloud, O365, and Azure storage resources.
Just don’t get too married to that Win10 Pro key. It might not last beyond a hardware upgrade.
I guess you missed the part, @mike808, where I said this was a hardware upgrade. Be that as it may, I’ve reverted back to my original key and hard drive for now. Last night I decided that the old saw “If something is too good to be true, it probably isn’t” applies to my situation and I pulled the new SSD and put my old stanky 5400 RPM hard drive back in with its valid credentials. I still have tons of stuff to pull off of it anyway before I can upgrade.
Thanks for your concern and liberal dose of FUD though.
@therealjrn You can still migrate your drive. Use Tuxboot to make a bootable Gparted USB stick to clone the HDD to the SSD. If the HDD is bigger than the SSD, then use Windows partition manager to shrink your main partition so they will all fit on the SSD with a little room. Reboot. Clone the entire disk. Reboot. Remove HDD. Reboot. Windows should rebuild its machine ID/fingerprint after each reboot. The trick is not to change everything in one go.
Gparted can also convert MFT to GPT and back. But it has to be an empty drive to go back from GPT to MFT.
I’ve rebuilt GPT drives manually with fdisk and MS parted, but it’s a bit involved.
@mike808 Or…I could just do like I’m doing. I’m aware that Windows will rebuild its machine ID, as it already did once for me. I understand what you are saying, but why in hell do I want to clone my cluttered old drive? Why clone that tangled mess of old programs and partial (most likely) uninstalls? Why do I want all the “helpful” manufacturer programs etc??? Oh! And all that Wild Tangent bullshit is SO VALUABLE. Why don’t I want a clean, fresh install the way that I want?
All I need to do is go through a few years of documents and notes and copy them over to someplace. Time consuming and dreary, yes, but the end result will be much better than trying what you are proposing. And safer & quicker I’ll wager. It’ll take an afternoon at most.
@mfladd@mike808 Keys can also come from legitimately decommissioned machines as well. Or, like my old Dell laptop that was refurbed and had two different legitimate keys. One from the original Dell, and one from the refurbisher. Both equally valid.
@f00l I’ve got some grandkids that might need a laptop for school. I think the school might be providing those now, but we’ll see. I need at least one extra because having a computer is a mission critical factor for my work…
Unfortunately, I may not deal with these for months. If I can get to them soonish and can bring myself to make actual decisions, I’ll contact you.
What is your deadline or timeline for purchase? That will give me a better idea of whether I can deal with this in a reasonable time.
If I were looking for kid’s laptops, I might look for one of those school-ruggedized thinkpads one sees mentioned on Slickdeals now and then. I think those come as both Win machines and Chromebooks?
@therealjrn haha… sounds like me. I have 3 laptops in the room I’m in at the moment. But generally only use the one I’m on now. I guess I need to transfer some stuff.
Unblame. It rained.
Blame. Based on the badges, @TheFLP is still the June goat, but based on forum chatter, @TheFLP is not the June goat.
/giphy confusing
@TheFLP Today is May 33rd… although you have not yet broken past goat records for lengthening a month. I’d guess whomever takes care of making sure months stay the proper length is derelict in their duties off for the weekend.

Blame for whoever imported a Midwestern thunderstorm into Southern California. My friend down there is trying to wait it out so he doesn’t get swept off the road in a flood.
Day 2: Clearly, the Goat Void has swallowed the poor schmo who does the goat badges around here.
I thought the world was going to end at 11:59 PM on May 31, making me the last of the Goats. But it’s beginning to look like I’ll be the last of the Goats anyway.
@blaineg Well you should have nice flowers come out then. I once drove through some desert near CA in the rain and drove through again in a week and all sorts of things were in bloom.
@Barney@carl669 Mistress Goat is displeased with the idea of extending her reign. No need to worry, once the guilty party is identified they will be punished.
@lseeber That’s right! Oh, and @f00l? The “Mohawk Sports Complex” is in the middle of a heavily forested area–well away from the urban heat sink. pffft.
Big whopping unblame. We’re in the air, the wi-fi works, the window isn’t scratched all to hell, and there’s nobody in the middle seat. Best flight ever.
/Unblame because the clean upgrade to a SSD and Win 10 Pro went flawlessly on my oldest laptop. It positively sings now. Well…not really…I always turn that bitch Cortana off.
/Blame What’s the deal with all these new talky “digital personal assistants” wanting to install themselves everywhere nowadays? Even my Fire tablet wants to hold a conversation with me!
I’m sure a good literary historian or lexicographer could dig up more.

Many teachers take a “Let’s not and say we did” attitude toward extended experiential learning in the different styles.
I’ve heard this phrase, here and there, all my life. When I use it, I usually intend a light humor attitude, about something I Don’t Want To Do, or that I Really Dont Like, or Something Evil.
It’s a casual conversation thing I guess.
some character from The Simpsons uses it a lot, I was told? I was never a Simpsons regular, and I don’t remember this.
@f00l I understand the phrase, I don’t understand why you “said” it. But don’t worry your brain about it. Much of what is posted, the later it gets, makes little sense to me.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@f00l@sammydog01 Or hack the payback mechanism and put stuff in there more appropriate to the setting in which you hang it. For example, “No sammydog01 you are not going to buy another robot. I forbid it. You will thank me some day for this.”.
Was going to change the O2 sensor in my Jeep. Pretty straight forward. Unclip it, unscrew it - replace. Well not if the male/female clips are melted together! 4 sensors in the car and the only one melted together is the one I want to change!
Grading. Class is twice the size of the limit and no extra pay (as it is I get paid less than one student pays in tuition). I have been grading pretty much 3 days straight and will likely be doing this all weekend too. Got a bit behind with my MD Anderson check up but damn this is way too much (I have no control over having to grade 4 things from each student each week and no I do not teach English). All I have to say is fuck this shit! Trouble is I need this job so I can’t walk (but I am hunting).
Blame/unblame (can’t decide which) for buying my first Mediocritee.
Blame because I can’t be bothered to post over there. The Meh forums are hard enough to keep up with (read: I don’t try to keep up). Plus, no goat badge. I worked hard for this badge, dammit!
I am home — much faster than my meandering trip out there — and my meh-button streak is intact.
Also, no one broke into my unlocked car in the long-term parking lot, and the weather was perfect for a drive from the airport. So a final unblame (vacation edition) for Mistress Goat.
Unblame: Thanks to YouTube and Harbor Freight I successfully changed the front wheel ABS sensor on the jeep. Well, I think it was successful - I have to wait for the code to clear. I hate all those dash lights.
@tinamarie1974 Unblame again: All the lights ABS traction control lights are now gone. Also, was working on why check engine light was one. OBDII reader was spitting out all sort of codes - grrrrr. Then I was under the hood looking at the fuse box. Pushed down a few fuses that looked like they were in crooked - to my delight - check engine light is gone. Inspection here I come!
BLAME: STILL grading. Have about 11 hours to go and then it starts all over again for this week’s crap.
BLAME, in fact double blame. In the way of relevant background is an online international business class that is 2/3 the way over. So today a student posted that Asia is a country that does not have China in it. Mind you these are adult students, not traditional aged students. Most of them have jobs and are over 25 or so, some much older than that.
I need a job with better students.
/image beat head here
@Kidsandliz that is just depressing. I am calling for drinking on your issue too! Every stupid answer, take a shot. Eventually you will not care any more!!
@mfladd Try to eat at Ulele if you get a chance, close to downtown Tampa. Great food; made the top 100 list recently. Armature Works and Sparkmans Wharf are a couple of fun new eating/drinking areas also nearby. Florida Aquarium. Seminole Hard Rock casino.
Plus I think there’s an Art-O-mat in nearby Lakeland but I haven’t been able to check it out yet…
@tinamarie1974 YOU been drinking? You have something you need to be drinking about and can’t so are planning to get drunk vicariously? (Oh wait, how would you accomplish that?). That is two suggestions in a row now that drinking is the solution
If you are at a conventional biz convention or company gathering, my sympathies!!!
Isn’t CentCom in Tampa?
There are no doubt some v interesting military things to check out.
Make your hotel give you fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice every day. That’s the least they can do to compensate for the biz obnoxiousness.
If you want to getaway, and have a free day or more, take at look at Sanibel and Captiva (off the coast of Naples).
There is a beach full of sharkteeth (if you want to dig for them) on Casey Key. I don’t remember the beach name but the locals will know. This beach, I think, faces the bay, not the open Gulf.
If you want a longish beach walk in the am or evening, Longboat Key is much closer.
If there are thunderstorms, and you want to do some shelling, go to Longboat Key v v early am. Well before sunrise. Take a flashlight.
Siesta Key has pretty beaches. Esp on the far south end.
There are some public parks on or near the water (beach and non-beach). Most are lovely.
Any public gardens should be wonderful.
Please note that Clearwater has a lot of Scientology investment and activity. (If you are considering a visit).
Some beaches have black sand or gravel. This will burn your feet easily. (The sharktooth beach on Casey Key has this).
So take beach shoes to any beach.
There are always sharks in the bays and offshore from the beaches. Always. Sometimes they come close to shore.
Some beaches have notable rip currents.
So consider just staying v shallow water.
Also there are always gators around inland water and in undeveloped areas, acting very prehistoric and hungry.
@Kidsandliz sometimes tequila makes everything better! And if we were drinking together I would totally push the shots. I may or may not drink them, but I always try to get the other person to indulge…“Drunk Tina” can be evil
No drinking here, I am sitting in my office @ work typing to you I am a bit frustrated these days, but pushing liquor to get you tipsy is not going to help me.
@Barney@llangley@sammydog01@f00l@tinamarie1974 All good ideas. But no car and no time. I am stuck in the hotel with nonstop meetings - early till late. The only time I have is for one on-the-town dinner tomorrow, so I will look into the restaurants. Other than that I am a prisoner here.
@Barney@f00l@llangley@sammydog01@tinamarie1974 So the restaurant we ate at was called Oystercatchers and it was delish. The key lime pie was amazing! And Jon Gruden and some Oakland Raider people (they were wearing raider polos) were eating a couple tables away from us.
I guess I will blame myself! You cannot imagine what I had to go through to get the SI Stanley Cup special edition magazine. It was on sale today and basically EVERYONE was sold out. #Rediculious
@therealjrn My parents did! We were hitting every store we ran across and then calling each other with updates. It is insane over here. There is nothing on the shelves anywhere (shirts, key chains, beer coozies, magazines, etc)
Was concerned that someone would see that giphy and make a partisan political comment in a non-political topic. But … hoped not.
Actually, that particular /giphy was the only one found by the / command, using that triggerword.
I found the giphy result absurd and humorous (from any political pov) and let it stand.
Maybe I should not have. Most of us (I suspect) don’t want partisan political commentary in an otherwise innocuous topic. We all have plenty of places for that.
But … the giphy triggered partisan commentary. Not what I wanted.
So … Deleted my part of it. Not my intention to “go there”.
@f00l But you had “a part” and waited long enough for my comment to not be editable to stand…hmm…so you didn’t want to make a politcal comment but are happy to leave me hanging? OK…
I didn’t deliberately mean to leave you in a box.
My comment, made first, was editable. Why was not yours still editable?
Unless you didn’t catch that in time. For which I can hardly blame you.
If you still want your deleted, just ask a mod.
If you would have deleted yours, had you seen my thoughts and wanted to, but were out of time, I understand. But neither you nor I can fix that without the assistance of @narfcake and the like.
Anyway no biggie. I didn’t want to be the trigger of a political remark. I was, and I apologise for that.
If I left you out there hanging, I also apologize for that.
I’m now listening to the chapter on swearing and on cursing (against someone or some force or power)
If you do read those book, pls feel free to use any on those swearing and cursing methods against me. I’m sure offer earned all of them in some fashion or other.
/Blame I lost a little of my innocence today when I learned some forum members will happily set me up…I guess I need to wait beyond the edit window before responding to troll posts.
@mfladd It’s not the airport’s fault, it’s Mother Nature’s fault. There was some really nasty rain earlier today. PHL isn’t even in the top 10 for flight delays.
@cinoclav I blame Philly airport because mine was not cancelled for weather - it was cancelled for maintenance. And while it can be argued that that is not their fault, I will argue that 90% of the time (regardless of weather) I have flight issues with Philly. I have 0% flight problems when going thru Charlotte. Those two airports are my only choice going, or returning, to my final destination.
@cinoclav@mfladd oh maintenance is BS! The airline should be able to handle routine maintenance and emergencies without significant delays or cancellation. This is one of my biggest pet peeves when traveling.
@mfladd@tinamarie1974 That might be. As I live 20 minutes from PHL, obviously making it my most used airport, I actually have to stick up for them. I really never have any big issues there. It’s not the most modern airport and the amenities leave a bit to be desired, but my flights tend to be on time.
Unblaming myself! Went on my evening walk and was able to meet a few new neighbors and see some beautiful wildlife. The highlight was a beautiful deer that I saw grazing in a field. That was a rare treat!
@tinamarie1974 You can keep em. I get a daily train of 6-10 deer eating every Hosta, Hydrangea, and flowering plant anywhere in the front yard, then they hop the fence into the back, devour anything green, graze, drop deer poop all over (with loads of weed seeds from everywhere else they destroy).
They can all die and go to the great summer sausage factory in the sky as far as I’m concerned.
@mike808@tinamarie1974 Ditto. Every. Single. Day. It’s a constant battle to keep my landscaping intact. At this very moment I have another window open (on laptop) looking at other creative motion detecting deer repellents (that don’t require bullets). If the deer don’t get something then the bunnies go after it. UGH. BLAME!
@cf1@lseeber@tinamarie1974 I’d prefer to feed homeless people and fill up food pantries with well-marbled venison roasts and sausages.
I posit to you that deer don’t overpopulate in the home areas of predators, and as the top predator on the planet, humans are just as “natural” as wolves and cougars. But you don’t hear anyone complaining about their loss of habitat to urbanization (where people live) or about protecting the free roaming in our city streets terrorizing our non-sentient landscaping and young tender trees and vegetable gardens, or protecting the roaming of less “pretty” species like the deer ticks carrying Lyme Disease, bears, cougars, wolves, mosquitoes, rats, wasps, fire ants, Africanized bees, and the countless species of insects that live in our lawns that we spray insecticides everywhere to kill.
Sorry, invasive hordes of deer don’t get a pass. Are you willing to reimburse me for my ongoing recurring landscaping replacement costs because you want me to keep an all-you-can-eat buffet open for unruly gangs of domesticated suburban deer ravaging my property daily?
If you’re not willing to put your money where your mouth is about what I should do about protecting my property from destruction, then I have every right to ignore said comments about what someone else should do with their resources. Much like a bunch of old white guys legislating control over women’s bodies and their reproductive choices, and especially targeting women of color.
@cf1@lseeber@mike808 I think this is being blown out of proportion based upon your diatribe. It was clear based upon your first comment that we have different points of view, and we should respect that others may not agree with our opinions. (Opinions are like assholes, we all have one)
That said, I was merely providing a suggestion to work smart and not hard on lawn maintenance. Something I have personally learned. I have a beautiful lawn and flowerbeds. My home is also overrun with wild animals (which I enjoy), remember I CHOSE to live here because of the wildlife I am fortunate enough to encounter. I also choose to plant flowers that they are not attracted to, eliminating the issues and problems that have you upset.
So if you do not like my suggestion, no big deal. Sorry for trying to give you an alternative that might make your life easier in the long run. Point taken.
And btw, no need to bring womens reproductive rights or minority issues into a discussion about wildlife. I do not see the connection, nor do I feel the need to share my viewpoints on these topics with anyone.
@lseeber@mike808@tinamarie1974 That is what my aunt and uncle did with their blueberry bushes (deer proof them). At my grandmother’s farm we needed to deer and cow proof the garden and berry bushes otherwise there would be nothing left. Works great. Tons of deer and while no cows anymore, the ones a mile or so down the road are sometimes there. PITA to round them up and walk them home and then deal with the cow pies.
@tinamarie1974 Oh it is - especially if you have to herd them on foot with brooms and sticks. Not to mention it takes a minimum of 3 people (unless you are a little old lady wearing a traditional Bavaria dress in the German Alps - I watched them do it all summer with a tiny switch of twigs and they had no problems).
And we’d have to herd them around 1 or 2 miles across another person’s farm to get them back where they belonged. Going along the road, how they likely came, was risky if they took off into the corn field, trampling it, as a different farmer owns that.
There was a rush of people who needed to visit the outhouse to hide out if there were cows munching on snap dragons or blueberry bushes in the yard.
Unblame: Today I was able to install both a hitch and the wiring harness on my jeep in less than 1.5 hours with no complications - which is rare for me!
@therealjrn More like this. The fucking Check Engine light is back on and I only have 1 more week to get it inspected. I can’t get the O2 sensor off due to the melted clip.
@therealjrn I feel the pain. I’m heading back to Tennessee this weekend for the final auction at Mom’s place and to move her to my place half way across the country. The forecast says 95% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.
I guess I really don’t know what I’ll do if the auction is rained out.
Flying in Friday. Auction Saturday. Driving Mom home in the RV after the property sale closes on Monday. Then just one more trip for the last of her stuff the week after we get home. Maybe while I’m on the last trip she’ll get bored and scrub my house from floor to ceiling? Or bake me a hundred snicker doodles?
@Barney You mean if I stay on the road and off the Deals topic?
@f00l I’ve made two trips for UHauls full of stuff, and dealing with the sale/auction/closing/final paperwork, etc. Now, the end is nigh. Well, it’s in sight at least. Auction this weekend, property closing on Monday, hit the road to bring her and her new devil dog to my house. Hopefully I’ll be home by Independence Day so I can take a breath and get Mom settled before returning for the final truckload the following week. That will be the final trip, and good riddance to all this mess.
THEN… it’ll be time to start shopping for a new house for her. But I already told her that isn’t going to happen for at least two weeks after I’m back with the final load. Between getting stuff taken care of there, and getting things ready here, I’m spent. Financially and physically! LOL!
She has (had?) 186 acres with five outbuildings and the large main house (two stories, five bedrooms). She’s lived there for just over 30 years, so she’s had 30 years to accumulate “stuff”. If I had realized in advance just how much stuff she wasn’t willing to part with, I might have chosen to be not such a good son.
Unblame: I was able to separate the melted clip and replace the broken O2 sensor on the Jeep (while working in a space of about 2".
Yay, right?
Blame: The “check engine” light is still on with a pending fault of “high circuit voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2” (the one that I changed)! GaaaaaaH! @ruouttaurmind - what the hell is going on here!? My frustration level is high.
@mfladd Did you reset the SES status after changing the sensor? In most cases, the failure code is logged into a register in the ECU (engine computer) and will cause a persistent SES indication. If you have a code scanner, most models will give the option to reset codes. If not, in many vehicles you can simply disconnect the battery. How long the battery must be disconnected varies wildly. In my 1985 Chevy pickup I only had to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and all codes would reset. In my 2008 Impala the codes are persistent and must be reset by a scanner.
@mfladd@ruouttaurmind Sometimes the local PepBoys/Autozone/Napa/O’Reilly’s/etc will walk out with you with their counter/display model and read off the code for you (this is where you ask them to reset it to “make sure the code is right” ). But an OBD2 reader is cheap these days.
@mike808@ruouttaurmind I have an OBDII and Torque Pro. I attempted to clear the code a number of times. And yes, I have disconnected the battery completely for hours and tried to clear any left over electrical charge to clear the ecu. I have tried other internet tricks. Still the light.
What is weird is I have cleared the engine light before using the scanner by clearing the codes, but this time the damn thing will not go out. Grrrrrrrrrr.
@mfladd That’s evidence of a persistent issue. Often times the true cause of ECU codes can be somewhere upstream or downstream from the actual item reporting the code. Let me check my reference DB and see what else may be causing that particular failure report.
@ruouttaurmind 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4, 3.7L V6. Thanks. I have also checked fuses in the engine compartment. I have not checked the interior. I have read sometimes fuses are pulled as spares not knowing what they are for. But I would think that a pulled fuse would affect all the sensors, not just Bank 2 Sensor 2. I can fix a number of things but serious electrical checking requires some things I don’t have, and is not in my comfort zone.
If you need the exact code number I can get it tomorrow.
I replaced the O2 sensor with a NTK which is what is recommended by most cherokee forum members. I have also checked 3 times to make sure the NTK part number is for my particular car and is a downstream sensor.
But I would think that a pulled fuse would affect all the sensors, not just Bank 2 Sensor 2
Depending on the ECU configuration, I would more likely expect a low voltage report for an open circuit. Simple test for open circuit is to look at the voltage at the O2 sensor plug. BTW, don’t panic when you see way less than 12VDC. It’s more likely around 3v-4v.
@ruouttaurmind Ugh…electrical is not my thing. But I know what you are talking about from youtube. I don’t think it is supposed to be above 3.5v.
Yes, Bank 2 Sensor 2 is passenger side, after the cat. I know because I was glad I didn’t have to change B2 S1 because it is even more difficult to get to.
@f00l Unfortunately it’s very difficult to put the information to meaningful use. Automotive systems have become so complex that a simple code error can have several causes, some of which could be well removed from the specific subsystem reporting the failure. Which is precisely what @mfladd seems to be experiencing.
In my limited experience diagnosing and repairing ODBII reported failures, it has been rare that an error code pointed specifically to the cause of the failure being reported. I guess that’s why mechanics are now called “automotive technicians” and why the shops can charge upwards of $150 per hour for their expertise.
@ruouttaurmind haha. Thank you. In my personal life I try to surround myself with people that bring me joy/happiness. Well except for family, sometimes you are stuck with them lol
This, unfortunately, is professional. I have no tolerance for people who cheat or lie and unfortunately I am dealing with one if those types. Rest assured I am prepared and she will feel my wrath. She will be buried in documentation. I just hate having to play “big brother”
Not my style
@f00l@ruouttaurmind@kidsandliz. Pic is not too clear, but here is tonights furry friend. She was pretty brave as she never ran off. Just hung out watching me.
@tinamarie1974 where my mom lives (literally right behind a high school’s football field and next to that is the fire station, right in an area with a bunch of big box stores that run along the road next to them, she sees deer all the time walking the gravel road between the fence and the football field. No idea why they’d be back in there.
@Kidsandliz Maybe urban sprawl? I saw one yesterday in my little towns downtown area on a hill next to the stores eating weeds watching the cars drive by, crazy.
@tinamarie1974 Well only if urban sprawl from the 70’s is recent enough. On the other hand I was staying at one of my mom’s cousin’s house in Berkeley some years ago while at a carillon conference and they had deer running down the street there too.
Blame! Most blame on high!
Blame that on Fathers Day I got my foot caught in a fence I was crossing which resulted in a broken leg(tibial plateau fracture)!
Which really really smarts!
Thanks to mike for reminding me to blame appropriately.
@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 my follow up appt is the last Wednesday in July. Then HOPEFULLY I will be done with the brace and into physical torture. Excuse me, therapy. Physical therapy. Cannot drive til then either.
I bought a 2-pack set of trash containers for my car. Upon getting back to my car I opened the package. One of the containers had what appeared to be mold growing on it. Time elapsed from purchase to finalized return was 7 minutes. (It would have been a little quicker but I’d paid with Samsung Pay so they had to go through a couple extra steps to refund it to me in cash.)
Also, I might be getting the Cameo 3 as one of the nearby Walmarts has “limited supply” for $70. Not sure if that will be a blame or unblame either way.
BLAME!!! Shit loads of grading and lots of whining about how late penalties (announced repeatedly and in the syllabus - but hey, why read the announcements or syllabus?) shouldn’t apply to undone work and now there is a sudden avalanche of retroactive excuses for why work is not done. Class ends 11:50pm Sunday. I mean, I need the work so I can’t quit, but OMG in this batch of students there was more than the usual number of slackers, plagiarists, and the entitled. Time consuming.
Blame! Yesterday a woman backed into me while I was walking into a grocery store. I was on foot, she was in her car. She blamed me, of course, but when I called 911 (she wanted to drive away but there were witnesses), the police ticketed her. Of course she clipped me on the side of my brand new fancy knee. Today my knee doc said nothing was broken but swollen, strained, and a fine bruise is coming all down my leg. Ice, elevate, take pain stuff. Her USAA adjustor has already left me an anxious message and case number. What do I do now, o great minds of meh?
@mike808@OldCatLady *cough ummm, can I see him after he makes you all better? And damn, sorry to hear about that. But they’re right, speak to a lawyer because you never know how things will shape up with the injury. Fuck calling USAA back until you do. Hope you mend well!
@OldCatLady Yes talk with an attorney!!! I speak from experience. Got totally screwed without one.
I was on my bike, walking it with a friend, on the sidewalk and a car hit me, barely missing who I was walking with (driver came out of a McD’s and was eating, not looking and missed they had put a stop sign there too at the end of the parking lot) and knocked me into the street where I just barely missed getting hit again. She drove off. She came back 10 min later (was back by the time the cops came).
I didn’t talk to an attorney. Because all I had was a big bruise about a foot in diameter on my thigh (which took months to heal and hurt like the dickens for ages) and some scratches all I got was my bike fixed. I had I gone to student health services about the bruise which was free - which meant that wasn’t then counted as an expense - your expenses affect the figuring of the award outcome as I later found out.
Had I seen an attorney instead of handling it myself the insurance company, instead of fixing my bike (it was still dented and scratched when they fixed it - insurance claimed since it was an old bike it wasn’t worth anything anyway), they might have at least been forced to get me a new bike and something extra as she was at fault, got the ticket and I had been hurt, had to drive to and from school (so had to pay for parking meters as I usually didn’t drive) as it hurt too much to walk and my bike was in the shop for 3 weeks since they wouldn’t fix it until the insurance company settled.
Do NOT get screwed by this as I did, or I am sure some others have been. USSA is good to their customers, but you are not a customer, you are an “expense” they’d rather not pay for.
@OldCatLady Just remember a lawyer has to get you over double what the insurance agent offers for it to be worth your time. Because they take over half in fees.
Call the insurance company first, get an offer, then get a consultation with a lawyer.
Here, lawyers take 1/3. That covers all their expenses.
Getting an offer from the insurance company first means, essentially, going up against pros when the injured party may have little knowledge of how the system works and what is fair. And they (insurance people) sometimes game the system from their end.
Also, some hurts don’t appear immediately.
I have my reservations about portions of the legal “personal injury” specialty. But there are many times when that the using of specialists in that area practice is absolutely justified.
I used one once, and am glad I did in that circumstance.
And I’m not “gaming the system”. I’m not in favor of that.
For a smallish accident (other party’s fault) that does no real harm to me (perhaps 1 day mild headache) and has little impact on my vehicle, I won’t even bother to report it to the at fault person’s insurance company.
@f00l@OldCatLady I’m just saying that the advice to not respond to the insurance company doesn’t make sense. Sure, don’t sign anything, but know what your options are before you hand it over to an ambulance chaser.
@OldCatLady Yes that makes sense (@sammydog01). Around here they take 45% plus legal filing expenses. As others have said, factor that into what an attorney says you will get. I was told (and don’t know how generalizable this is to elsewhere) it that you can get roughly 3x the total expenses if everything that happened is fixable and more or less self limiting in a reasonable length of time. I was told that was one of my mistakes - going to student health services rather than the ER (eg would have driven the costs up). Certainly I didn’t even get enough to completely make my bike like it was before it was hit. In that respect I got ripped off.
@Kidsandliz You always get ripped off, don’t ya? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you talk about any event in your life that you didn’t end up getting screwed over by someone or something. It must really suck to be you.
@f00l@OldCatLady@sammydog01 The issue with it being that they will hope to get anything from you that will help drive down the liability. It all comes down to percentages of fault and if they can get you to casually say something that could be twisted, they will.
This is from someone who is wrapped up her kid’s accident case from four years ago. And they take 33% here, which was well worth it, because he still walks away with payments every month for ten years plus lump sums every few years. I’m not a fan of litigation for little things, but if you’re facing truly life changing shit, make sure you’re covered!
@Barney That’s not true although an awful lot of really bad things have happened to me in recent years. Go look at, for example, the current fireworks thread. Talked about the wonderful experiences I have had with fireworks displays while working on boats. I posted what I posted here so that @oldcatlady took into consideration the mistakes I made when dealing with a similar situation. There is something to be said for vicarious learning.
@Barney@Kidsandliz nah, I think she was just sharing to help @oldcatlady like the rest of us. i am fortunate that I do not have an example, but I have heard of many. Talking to the other insurance company garners bad results. You just have to protect yourself, whatever that means.
@Kidsandliz He had his left hand wrecked at school when he was in 8th grade. Degloved the index finger, ripped the tendon in the middle apart. He can’t make a fist very well or grip well and he’s missing half the soft tissue in half the index finger. They came up with a surgery technique on the fly to fix the tendon but if he ever hits the finger in just the wrong way, it’ll snap the tendon and he will lose the ability to bend it. It sucked ass. They called me right away and I beat the ambulance there by a good bit. We sat in a pool of blood for fifteen minutes or so and then school’s insurance thought they’d be really generous with $1000. It didn’t quite work out that way. I never ever thought I’d be the lawsuit type, but he will never be able to do a lot of manual work. He’s tough though, he amazed me.
@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 Thanks, but he’d be the first to brush it off. He did the hard work and physical therapy etc and hates people noticing it. He is a tough guy for sure.
@Barney Actually the bad shit started happening to me prior to that but then we weren’t on any forums together for you to know. I had a pretty charmed life up until then.
Glad I am assisting you in keeping your snark knife sharpened. If you’d like I can put a bigger target on my back to be sure you don’t miss.
@f00l thank you so very much. His surgeon told him that she wished every patient was just like him, and he asked why. She said because he did everything they told him to do no matter how much it hurt, and the adults almost never did that. I don’t think he’s ever forgotten it. He doesn’t get how special he is.
Resilience (mental and emotional); basic decency and empathy combined with self-possession and self-confidence; and intelligent and strategic adaptivity: are supposed to be huge indicators of future success.
Dunno if the known solid data supports that. But it sounds good, doesn’t it?
So I hope it’s kinda true.
(I just misused a bunch of colons and semicolons. That was fun.)
@f00l I hope so. I know he feels pretty lost as to what to do with himself for a living. Grades were never great, but he realized towards the end of high school he does enjoy learning some stuff. He just always wanted to enter culinary, specifically baking, and it’s pretty tough now. But he will be ok, he’s smart and resilient and kinda perfect.
@KittySprinkles Tough thing for a kid, well for anyone most likely (and for you as his mom too - that had to be tough to watch your kid go through something as horrible as that). Sounds like he is a great kid. Glad you persisted with the lawsuit. I hope you won enough that they will be paying for chef training or college or whatever so he can start his adult life/career debt free.
@Kidsandliz I’m proud of him, it was definitely a horrible thing to see but thankfully my upbringing allows me to compartmentalize very well. He got it from me and we sat there in a large pool of blood, not thinking he honestly had much hand left, making dumb jokes to lighten the mood. We’re a strange family.
@KittySprinkles Feeling pretty lost about what to do for a living is pretty common in kids his age, in many traditionally college aged kids and in some older than that as well. One thing that doesn’t help his age group is the feeling that whatever choice they make, that is it; they are stuck with that for their life time; what if they make the wrong choice?, etc. Of course as adults we all know that isn’t the case, but realizing that is harder for someone his age, with a still developing frontal lobe, to see it that way.
This, of course, is one reason why most college kids change their major at least once, around half more than once. Not sure what happens with those who don’t go to college, but I would be reasonably sure that they have similar thought processes/indecision. Most adults (who work) have more than one career. I think the national average is 3ish. Also what happens fairly frequently is taking a course can unexpectedly spark their interest in something they didn’t even know they were interested in.
If he does choose to go to college, going where there are a lot of different majors can help as some students will not transfer (due to friendships/significant other, etc.) which means they’ll then make their choice amongst the choices available even if none of them “fit” very well.
@Kidsandliz I’ve always tried to be very realistic with my boys. I know that one of them will go to a traditional college while my oldest, the one we’re talking about, won’t. I’ve warned him about jumping right into some kind of trade school without knowing what he even wants to do, so we’ve talked all the possibilities out and decided he should enter the real world for a bit by working for a year. Next year he starts getting his monthly money and first installment, and with that he can go to school. Better to get a little experience in the real world first, see if that helps him figure out what to do.
@KittySprinkles That is certainly a wise move. Also since his hand is not 100% that would technically be considered a disability. As a result he might have access to the Department of Disability Services, where one of the things they do is help kids graduating from high school with career/school/training stuff… They might have contacts that will help him figure out what he might like to do, access to jobs, contacts where he can talk to people about the reality of actually doing a certain job… Although it sounds like he might not need it with the settlement, they usually also give money to kids in vocational and college programs for books, buying needed aids (for example if typing is not his forte due to his one hand, a good dictation program)…
Might be worth giving them a call and see if they offer anything that he might find useful. I know my kid was offered a variety of things, although unfortunately she chose not to take advantage of anything other than the money for books when she was briefly enrolled in a cosmetology program (flunked out).
@Kidsandliz@KittySprinkles that is absolutely worth looking into. Some states have gutted Dept of rehab, some haven’t. 20 years ago dept of rehab paid my tuition at a state university along with books for 4 years. Graduated with very little debt.
Thanks to @tinamarie1974, who has been a charming, attentive, and funny Mistress Goat.
/giphy thanks
(Ok, I didn’t thank a bunch of other Goats during their assigned-blame-attraction-months. But I should have.
So, apologies to all the Goats to whom I didn’t mention my appreciation.)
I don’t know who to blame for this but I’m waiting on the USPS to deliver my new SSD so I can upgrade my main work laptop! It needs a fresh install, and the 5400 RPM hard drive is slooooooow.
@therealjrn 5400? Good Lord. Might as well stick a hamster in there.
@therealjrn When I upgraded it gave me W10 Pro.
@mfladd
So all’s well.
That’s an big UNBLAME for the June goat!..
Only one more laptop to go later on this week!
@therealjrn Good buy on the ebay PRO Key!!!
@mfladd @therealjrn Until the real corporate owner changes their license with Microsoft and revokes all of the unregistered machines using their activation key.
@mike808 @therealjrn
Thanks but I got it from here Mike.
@mike808 The way you’re talking, you must be wanting to charge by the hour lol.
@mfladd
Yeah, ol’ Mike is a little long on the FUD, but better safe than sorry.
@mfladd @mike808 Keys can also come from legitimately decommissioned machines as well. Or, like my old Dell laptop that was refurbed and had two different legitimate keys. One from the original Dell, and one from the refurbisher. Both equally valid.
@mfladd @therealjrn Or they could be stolen/illegitimate keys like the kind you get from sketchy resellers on fleabay for under $2.
Like this guy:
@mfladd @mike808 HEY! IT COULD HAPPEN!!
@f00l Haha!

As long as I’m here, Imma complain about How Come I Have Four Laptops??? PLUS a CHROMBOOK??? What is WRONG WITH ME???
OK fine, I used to remote office but now I have everything consolidated at home. That still doesn’t explain the TWO extra lappys…
@therealjrn no different than a womans obsession with shoes or purses or…
@therealjrn
How come I have that many laptops in storage?
Recent ones. Only a few years old. I haven’t booted any of them in a year.
It might take me an hour to find them. : p
I think Craigslist is calling to me.
@f00l I’ve got some grandkids that might need a laptop for school. I think the school might be providing those now, but we’ll see. I need at least one extra because having a computer is a mission critical factor for my work…
…and for buying crap on the internets.
@therealjrn
@f00l Thanks, but no thank you–I have plenty of laptops. You’re not getting rid of them that easy lady.

An unblame to me for keeping my meh button streak alive. (460 days!)
And a provisional blame to @tinamarie1974 because I’m likely to blow it during my vacation next week.
@TheFLP No sympathy here, I heard you have vacation. And that is Mistress GoaT to you!
@TheFLP Your goat icon is still alive right now too so that’s your fault as well.

It is the 33rd already, if you’re in a decent time zone!
(In the Goat Void, it’s always Eastern Daylight Time — minus the daylight.)
@TheFLP Today is May 33rd… although you have not yet broken past goat records for lengthening a month. I’d guess whomever takes care of making sure months stay the proper length is

@tinamarie1974 I’m terribly sorry that you have not received your Goat badge and a formal acknowledgement of your Goatiness.
Because of this fuck up, I believe your Goat reign should be extended through the month of July.

How will you survive in late July, if today is considered to be sweltering?
@f00l It’s just AWFUL! The humidity!
@therealjrn
Yeah. But I’d rather have humidity and frequent rain than have extreme heat and drought.
Since it’s usually one or other other this time of year.
I actually find it kinda pleasant.
Normally outside a bunch. So perhaps have acclimated somewhat.

@TheFLP oh that such, but did you get stuck in the middle
@tinamarie1974
Oh good lord no — I always make sure I get a window seat. Still cramped, but it has redeeming qualities.
@TheFLP ooohhh I cannot do window, you give up control of the row in any seat except isle.
@tinamarie1974
I don’t need control — I just wanna to see out the window.
Blame because I’m still not sure which thread I’m supposed to be using.
@TheFLP The REAL one of course!
@TheFLP @therealjrn
/giphy smirk
(You well graced your Goat Reign, @TheFLP.)
/Unblame because the clean upgrade to a SSD and Win 10 Pro went flawlessly on my oldest laptop. It positively sings now. Well…not really…I always turn that bitch Cortana off.
@therealjrn you are welcome!
@therealjrn Great. Are you sure you turned off Cortana, or just the always on microphone surveillance?
@mike808 Yeah but I left the camera on for them. I look that good.
/Blame What’s the deal with all these new talky “digital personal assistants” wanting to install themselves everywhere nowadays? Even my Fire tablet wants to hold a conversation with me!
@therealjrn don’t trust it. It is “the man” listening in on you lol

@f00l I learned a new word today!
@therealjrn
Re the actual experience:
Let’s not, and say we did."
@f00l I don’t know what that means, but OK.
@therealjrn
Re let’s not, and say we did
(If that’s what you were referring to)
A small history:
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/let's_not_and_say_we_did
I’m sure a good literary historian or lexicographer could dig up more.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@therealjrn
Re panopticon
I don’t want to be in or near one. (Even tho modern 1st world life resembles one for all of us, or so it seems to me.)
Hence the throwaway attempted light humor phrase.
Most of my humor attempts seems to come to:
Am used to it.
"I’m an idiot and a f00l."
That much is perfectly clear, right?
@f00l Don’t worry about it. You just keep on being YOU.
@therealjrn
/giphy “can’t stop”
Unblame for the excellent dinner I had with my aunt, who I haven’t seen in maybe 30 years.
(Seriously, if you’re in Denver and like Mexican food with a twist, I can recommend Tamayo.)
@TheFLP Denver is where Casa Bonita is from!
/giphy cartman casa bonita
Blame: Amtrak is running 5 hours late and seems to get worse by the minute — still somewhere in Nebraska.
Blame. Bought the lame Mother’s Day mystery box from Morningsave X2. Got 2 of everything shipped in the same box. Lame. And totally meh.
So why do I think the Father’s Day mystery box will be better??? Because I’m a fucking dumbass!!

@llangley Yay! Make sure to post your disappointment!
@sammydog01 Will do!
@llangley So, did you double down and are in for four?
@mike808
@llangley FTFY.
@mike808 FTFY? Ouch.
@mike808 Shit. I seriously thought you were saying FUCK THAT, FUCK YOU. Shoulda known better
@llangley What The Fracas?
FTFY is “Fixed That For You”.
You know who to blame, right?
@mike808 yep, finally figured that out.
BLAME GIVEN@tinamarie1974
I’m old and not as cool as I once was
Blame because: despite making up some time, the train was still six and a half hours late. I barely made it to my hotel before check-in ended.
Unblame because: a trip through the Rockies, Nevada, and the Sierras was worth every minute — including the 390 additional minutes I got for free.
@TheFLP Bonus minutes!
Why did I buy this again?
Oh yeah, @ruouttaurmind made me. Shit.
@sammydog01 That ruouttaurmind guy is a scourge on the forum.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
He’s a total waste. I never read his stuff.
@f00l @sammydog01
I @ruouttaurmind.

@f00l pretty
Blame because I was sick in bed yesterday and had to cancel my plans in San Francisco.
Unblame: It was a really comfortable hotel room to be sick in. And it was kind of a throwaway day on my itinerary, so the timing wasn’t terrible.
Getting some breakfast and fresh air helped.
@TheFLP So how was the air in San Francisco? Here lately I’ve just been picturing big, brown clouds wafting over the bay.
@therealjrn
I dunno about the air quality, but they’re getting record high temps up there:
Another good reason to stay inside.
@TheFLP Yikes! That’s about as hot as it’ll be for me in SoCal.
Another reason:
https://www.teeturtle.com/products/dont-go-outside
Any chance I can still take credit for this hockey thing? No?
Well, it was worth a shot.
@TheFLP
Was going to change the O2 sensor in my Jeep. Pretty straight forward. Unclip it, unscrew it - replace. Well not if the male/female clips are melted together! 4 sensors in the car and the only one melted together is the one I want to change!
@mfladd
/giphy Murphy’s Law
@mfladd @tinamarie1974 yep that’s me, the red one
@llangley @mfladd me too!!
@Kidsandliz well that stinks. Maybe have the class exchange and grade their own?
@tinamarie1974 I only wish. College students online.
@Kidsandliz
Blame/unblame (can’t decide which) for buying my first Mediocritee.
Blame because I can’t be bothered to post over there. The Meh forums are hard enough to keep up with (read: I don’t try to keep up). Plus, no goat badge. I worked hard for this badge, dammit!
Blame because Delta’s charging ports are too underpowered for my iPad.
@TheFLP Maybe it’s your iPad that is over-powered?
Anyway, our goat, @tinamarie1974 is out standing in the rain waiting to pay homage to some sports-game players.
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974
I thought hockey was an indoor sport. Leaky roof?
I am home — much faster than my meandering trip out there — and my meh-button streak is intact.
Also, no one broke into my unlocked car in the long-term parking lot, and the weather was perfect for a drive from the airport. So a final unblame (vacation edition) for Mistress Goat.
@TheFLP
/giphy welcome home!
@TheFLP yeah!!!
/giphy you’re welcome
Unblame: Thanks to YouTube and Harbor Freight I successfully changed the front wheel ABS sensor on the jeep. Well, I think it was successful - I have to wait for the code to clear. I hate all those dash lights.
@mfladd Congrats!!
@tinamarie1974 Lol…not being the mechanicy type that’s how I felt
@mfladd I felt like that was implied in your unblame!
@mfladd Hey, congrats! That is awesome news. You sure you are not a mechanic, because it sounds like you are good with your hands?
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
@tinamarie1974
@mfladd @tinamarie1974
And your code reader didn’t even need to be gamified for profit!
Anyway, congrats. Glad an apparently huge prob turned into a nothing.
@mfladd
@f00l @tinamarie1974 We shall see. I am hoping for the best. But I still always have that - something bad is probably coming soon outlook
@f00l @mfladd No, it is all about what you put out there in the universe!. Be positive and good things will happen.

Blame: I have to leave for Tampa today for work. One week full of type “A” personalities has my “people hate” on red alert!
@mfladd
If you have a car and like huge “explore-this-place bookstores”, go to Haslams in St Pete.
Much good food. Esp Cuban. So try some stuff.
Nice gulf beaches and sunsets. Interesting parks.
But beware severe sun intensity. And mosquitoes are out at sunset so use something to keep them off.
@RiotDemon? @OldCatLady? Others from Florida?
What are other Florida recs?
@mfladd ummm, I got nothing. It is humid and usually as hot as the 7th level of hell. Maybe drink? At least younwouldn’t care anymore!
/giphy drinking games
@mfladd Try to eat at Ulele if you get a chance, close to downtown Tampa. Great food; made the top 100 list recently. Armature Works and Sparkmans Wharf are a couple of fun new eating/drinking areas also nearby. Florida Aquarium. Seminole Hard Rock casino.
Plus I think there’s an Art-O-mat in nearby Lakeland but I haven’t been able to check it out yet…
@llangley @mfladd Forget the food, I want to go to the Art-O-Mat.
@Barney @llangley @mfladd I NEED TO GO TO THE ART-O-MAT! I keep looking for change in my wallet and it’s all Art-o-mat tokens.
@sammydog01 Take me with you!
@tinamarie1974 YOU been drinking? You have something you need to be drinking about and can’t so are planning to get drunk vicariously? (Oh wait, how would you accomplish that?). That is two suggestions in a row now that drinking is the solution
@mfladd
Anyway be cautious.
You MUST
/giphy sunscreen!!!
Also a hat. A ventilated one is best.
@mfladd
@Barney @llangley @sammydog01 @f00l @tinamarie1974 All good ideas. But no car and no time. I am stuck in the hotel with nonstop meetings - early till late. The only time I have is for one on-the-town dinner tomorrow, so I will look into the restaurants. Other than that I am a prisoner here.
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 business travel is never fun
@Barney @f00l @llangley @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 So the restaurant we ate at was called Oystercatchers and it was delish. The key lime pie was amazing! And Jon Gruden and some Oakland Raider people (they were wearing raider polos) were eating a couple tables away from us.
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 Happy to hear you enjoyed your one free night! Does this mean I get an unblame??
@Barney @f00l @llangley @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 it does, but then you would have to accept the blame for this really shitty meeting day. The schedule today sucks.
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 So you are feeling a little screwed on Hump Day? Seems appropriate!
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @tinamarie1974 Do they have those little bowls of hard candy on the tables? Those always improved my meeting days.
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 IDK for me it is always this, yuck.
@Barney @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974
I am very very sorry to hear that you are being forced to waste your Florida time on boring and pointless meetings.
When you could be risking your life!
/giphy shark mosquito
@Barney @f00l @llangley @mfladd @sammydog01 uummmm sharks are fun!
I guess I will blame myself! You cannot imagine what I had to go through to get the SI Stanley Cup special edition magazine. It was on sale today and basically EVERYONE was sold out. #Rediculious
@tinamarie1974 Probably because so many were burned in Boston. Did you find one?
@therealjrn My parents did! We were hitting every store we ran across and then calling each other with updates. It is insane over here. There is nothing on the shelves anywhere (shirts, key chains, beer coozies, magazines, etc)
@tinamarie1974 Did you get your newspaper too? 20 bucks on eBay.
@therealjrn Got it! Will be framed and hung in my basement aka “Woman Cave” I hope no one buys it. Shouldn’t exploit folks like that!
@tinamarie1974 Your basement is a she shed.
@mike808 but she sheds are frilly and girly. I have hockey stuff. Why can’t a woman have a cave?
I still haven’t decided if this is a blame or an unblame.

@therealjrn
OK…
@therealjrn
But you could blame the Goat if you wanted …
Again my apologies.
@f00l
Yeah, I can’t just sit on a thread waiting to see if you change your mind–so you left me hanging. Your if-pology is accepted.

Blame! Stuck in fucking Tampa. Every fucking meeting! Fucking Philly airport!
@mfladd
I think we all agree that you have just cause for claiming temporary misery.
/giphy misery
@mfladd On the bright side they just issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Philly and you aren’t in the air.
@mfladd OMG!!! Terrible. Hopefully you dont have a long layover.
Or maybe you can put your underwear over your face and fly home like this guy? (just trying to make you laugh)
@cinoclav @mfladd oh maintenance is BS! The airline should be able to handle routine maintenance and emergencies without significant delays or cancellation. This is one of my biggest pet peeves when traveling.
@cinoclav @tinamarie1974 I think that somehow Philly has all Boston fans secretly flagged and just tries to make our lives more difficult for fun
@mfladd @tinamarie1974 That might be.
/giphy doe a deer
@tinamarie1974 Unblame yourself?
/giphy doesn’t work like that
Ooooooh, Julia Child. One of my favorite SNL skits of all time!
@compunaut I Julia Child. Why can’t I unblame myself? Seems appropriate
@compunaut @tinamarie1974 Save the liver!
@mike808
I have loads of deer, skunk, raccoon, armadillo, coyote, groundhog, etc around me and love every minute of it.
I understand your frustration, but I see it differently. We humans are encroaching on their land and we need to be a good neighbor to them.
I just try to appreciate them for their beauty and not do things to harm them.
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 Ditto. Every. Single. Day. It’s a constant battle to keep my landscaping intact. At this very moment I have another window open (on laptop) looking at other creative motion detecting deer repellents (that don’t require bullets). If the deer don’t get something then the bunnies go after it. UGH. BLAME!
@lseeber @mike808 may I suggest vegetation that the deers do not find pleasing? CHECK THIS OUT
Or if it is a garden, you could always “deer proof” it.
@lseeber @mike808 @tinamarie1974 I’d actually be pretty surprised and happy to find a giraffe nibbling on my garden
@cf1 @lseeber @mike808 me too!
/giphy happy thoughts
@cf1 @lseeber @tinamarie1974 I’d prefer to feed homeless people and fill up food pantries with well-marbled venison roasts and sausages.
@cf1 @lseeber @mike808 I think this is being blown out of proportion based upon your diatribe.
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 @cf1
@lseeber @mike808 @tinamarie1974 That is what my aunt and uncle did with their blueberry bushes (deer proof them).
@Kidsandliz @lseeber @mike808 I had a friend whose parents owned a farm. Oh how I loved her rounding up the cow stories. It sounded horrible.
@Kidsandliz oh that is how I heard my parents chickens, with sticks. They are really hard to catch, super fast
Unblame: Today I was able to install both a hitch and the wiring harness on my jeep in less than 1.5 hours with no complications - which is rare for me!
I can’t help it. Every time I think of @mfladd all I can picture is this now.
@therealjrn More like this. The fucking Check Engine light is back on and I only have 1 more week to get it inspected. I can’t get the O2 sensor off due to the melted clip.
@mfladd @therealjrn I Blue Steel
@mfladd Well I just popped on to congratulate you, as I saw your post earlier, before the Goober addition.
I was going to ask if you felt this happy:

@therealjrn I feel the pain. I’m heading back to Tennessee this weekend for the final auction at Mom’s place and to move her to my place half way across the country. The forecast says 95% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

@ruouttaurmind Good Luck & Safe Travels!
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974 Thanks!
@ruouttaurmind @therealjrn @tinamarie1974
I didn’t realize you were still on the road dealing with this.
I should have known. These things always take exactly twice as long as “forever”.
You are a kick-ass son.
(I suppose your mom could/does remind you of when you weren’t exactly kick-ass, tho. )
I really hope the auction and the continued (eternal?) moving goes well for you both.
@ruouttaurmind If you stay of the road, I might end up with extra money in my pocketbook this month.
LOL!
@ruouttaurmind
Yep!
@Barney @f00l @ruouttaurmind I am exhausted just reading your post but you are being a good son!!
@tinamarie1974
@ruouttaurmind oh you poor thing. That sounds like a mess
@tinamarie1974 Nah, just a little bump in the grand scheme of things. Once it’s all said and done it will be nice to have her here in town.
@mfladd Congratulations and I am sorry. Fingers crossed this gets sorted quickly
/giphy sorting hat
@mfladd
Sux. Our sympathies. : (
@mfladd Did you reset the SES status after changing the sensor? In most cases, the failure code is logged into a register in the ECU (engine computer) and will cause a persistent SES indication. If you have a code scanner, most models will give the option to reset codes. If not, in many vehicles you can simply disconnect the battery. How long the battery must be disconnected varies wildly. In my 1985 Chevy pickup I only had to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and all codes would reset. In my 2008 Impala the codes are persistent and must be reset by a scanner.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind Sometimes the local PepBoys/Autozone/Napa/O’Reilly’s/etc will walk out with you with their counter/display model and read off the code for you (this is where you ask them to reset it to “make sure the code is right” ). But an OBD2 reader is cheap these days.
@mike808 @ruouttaurmind I have an OBDII and Torque Pro.
What is your exact year, model, and engine?
@mfladd Just in the name of due diligence: are you certain you replaced 2:2 and not 1:2 (left vs. right)?
@mfladd
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind
Now this is an area of genuinely useful and interesting knowledge, and I regret not possessing any of it.
Envious.
I realize I am sadily blaming myself, but sometimes
/giphy people suck
@tinamarie1974 Although I cannot disagree, I am sorry you’re having people trouble.
I figured out a while ago how to deal with that. Just avoid them and they can’t ooze their suck all over you!
I should post the good stuff too! On a positive note I went on my daily walk earlier today since I will be tied up this evening.
While on my walk I happened across a family of skunk. OMG they were so stinking cute! No pun intended. Rim shot please!!
They looked like THIS.
@tinamarie1974 No joy on the image:
@tinamarie1974 sigh… no photo and it won’t open in a new tab either.
@tinamarie1974 let’s try again
@Kidsandliz Let’s pretend @tinamarie1974 posted this, and bask in the glow of her awesomeness:
@tinamarie1974 Nope. Nothing. Same thing. Maybe copy it to your desktop as a jpeg and load from there?
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind oh that is basically what I posted. It was what I assume was mama and her amazingly cuddly looking babies.
And it is hard to stay tied up when I keep trying to repost the pic lol
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind wait… I am awesome? YES!!! lol
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
@tinamarie1974 Not precisely. You have awesomeness because that other word summons the one who’s name shall not be spoken.

Ya, hey giphy, thanks a load for leaving me hanging bro.
@ruouttaurmind oh that thing drives me crazy!

@f00l @ruouttaurmind @kidsandliz. Pic is not too clear, but here is tonights furry friend. She was pretty brave as she never ran off. Just hung out watching me.
@ruouttaurmind @tinamarie1974 That’s a funny-looking bear.
@ruouttaurmind @therealjrn had it been a bear, I would not have stopped to take a pic! lol.
The bear was sighted tonight about 5 miles from the house. Hopefully it keeps moving.
@JnKL well that sucks! In guess I need to ask why you didn’t walk through the gate?
Nice leg lol
/giphy clumsy
@JnKL That took a lot of bad luck to come together for a caught foot to = broken leg. Hope it heals well and quickly.
@JnKL @Kidsandliz how long will you be immobilized?
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 my follow up appt is the last Wednesday in July. Then HOPEFULLY I will be done with the brace and into physical torture. Excuse me, therapy. Physical therapy. Cannot drive til then either.

Ublame. 486 meh buttons — Pentium here I come!
Yeah, a pretty weak geek joke. That’s all I got tonight.
And of course, when my count hits 586 it’ll be displayed as 585.73123931238 due to a calculation error.
Hey, I’m trying.
@msklzannie absolutely an unblame. You caught the product shortcoming prior to leaving and received a quick refund.
You then found what I assume is a smoking deal on a cameo 3 (so not a Camero?)
/giphy you’re welcome
You made me spend a lot of money again today. I found a Brother serger machine clearanced for $49.
@msklzannie oh that is a good price.
/giphy you’re welcome
@Kidsandliz just breathe and count down the days. You are in the home stretch
/giphy countdown
@OldCatLady I’m not the sue-happy type myself, but maybe…
/giphy Better Call Saul
@OldCatLady you CALL A LAWYER. DO NOT CALL USAA without a consultation first
Glad you are ok! Would hate to have to round up the Meh posse to go beat up that stupid driver lol

@tinamarie1974 After your lawyer gets through with them, let me be the first to welcome you to the 20% @OldCatLady.
@OldCatLady @therealjrn ah! So you know my lawyer, he is a good man!
I kid. Like you I don’t like that “sue” word, but OCL needs to be at least informed before she has a conversation with USAA.
@therealjrn What 20%? I’m feeling stupid.
@OldCatLady @therealjrn

@OldCatLady @therealjrn @tinamarie1974
I wanna chime in.
YES.
LAWYER.
Get a good one. By which I mean, a lawyer who has an excellent rep both for honorable professional conduct, and also for competence.
Don’t talk to the adjuster until you’ve spoken to a lawyer.
LAWYER LAWYER LAWYER.
(Ok, if you don’t wanna, don’t get one. But at least think about it.)
(Hitting a pedestrian with a car is some bad stuff. Doing that and then trying to get away with driving off is worse.)

I’m not a big fan of people overusing the court system. But in this case …
@OldCatLady You should see a doctor about that injury.
@mike808 @OldCatLady and what is that Dr name, ahem…
@mike808 @OldCatLady *cough ummm, can I see him after he makes you all better?
@OldCatLady @sammydog01
@f00l @OldCatLady I’m just saying that the advice to not respond to the insurance company doesn’t make sense.
@f00l @OldCatLady @sammydog01 The issue with it being that they will hope to get anything from you that will help drive down the liability.
@KittySprinkles I didn’t know you had a kid in what must have been a bad accident for that kind of ongoing award. Is your kid OK now?
@Barney @Kidsandliz nah, I think she was just sharing to help @oldcatlady like the rest of us. i am fortunate that I do not have an example, but I have heard of many.
@tinamarie1974 You, my dear, even though you have blinders on, have a pure heart. That is what I like about you.
@Kidsandliz @KittySprinkles poor kid.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 Thanks, but he’d be the first to brush it off. He did the hard work and physical therapy etc and hates people noticing it. He is a tough guy for sure.
@Kidsandliz You have had an inordinate amount of shit happen to you since this forum first started. Quite a coincidence, huh?
Ivory soap is only 99 44/100 pure.
@KittySprinkles
I’m really glad the hand was mostly fixed.
But even more glad that you seem to have an emotionally and mentally resilient kid.
That’s what will carry him forward, I hope.
@f00l thank you so very much. His surgeon told him that she wished every patient was just like him, and he asked why. She said because he did everything they told him to do no matter how much it hurt, and the adults almost never did that. I don’t think he’s ever forgotten it. He doesn’t get how special he is.
@KittySprinkles
@KittySprinkles I’d say not strange, rather a family who is teaching their kids how to cope with things you can’t change.
@KittySprinkles PS some states call it the department of rehabilitation services.
@Kidsandliz @KittySprinkles that is absolutely worth looking into. Some states have gutted Dept of rehab, some haven’t. 20 years ago dept of rehab paid my tuition at a state university along with books for 4 years. Graduated with very little debt.
