No idea what type of spider this guy is, but he was hanging out on my deck. Decided to try some close up shots on my phone, just because. Little guy is adorable
Does it jump? Trying to figure out on Google what it might be, it looks like a kind of jumping spider.
Whatever happened to your tortoise - is it still around?
@Kyeh no idea. It was not jumping yesterday. I tried Google lens but didn’t see anything I thought was a match. From afar the little guy looked more grey.
And the turtle, yes! There was a few sightings in the yard and I snapped a pic of her on the way out last week! She works her way around, so I am sure she will be back.
@moonhat Update, I looked back through some of my jumping spider photos and have one of this tiny friend (uncertain of species, probably a juvenile) eating an oleander aphid, so they are certainly on the menu.
One of various species of jumping spider! These guys are awesome for many reasons, chief among them that they don’t bite humans, they eat harmful pests and irritating bugs, and they’re just plain fun to watch! Lucas the Spider is a jumping spider, too.
Btw, this is the spider a little less zoomed
Wow! So cool!!!

Is Mr Spider holding a yellow beach ball??
@moonhat I am not sure exactly what he has in his little hands. I am thinking it is breakfast?
@moonhat My guess would be a yellow aphid, but it could be any of a number of edibles

@rinrinrin an oleander aphid! That sounds pretty delicious.
Google says it’s a this
@bblood that is the same result I got. But to the naked eye he looked more grey, not brown.
@bblood Jumping spiders!
It kind of looks more like the other one to me, the putnami.
@bblood @Kyeh agree
@tinamarie1974 yeah he looks more like the putnami one to me … kinda seems like they come in a few different colors.
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 agreed
Cute!!
Maybe it’s this guy (or gal?)
Phidippus otiosus

A lot of the species have different colorations between the males and females.
Or it could be a new species -
I think Phidippus minecraftus
or Phidippus tinamariea
would be good choices.
@mehcuda67 that is absolutely a possibility
Have you met Lucas?
Ugh. Click the linky I guess.

@blaineg yes!!! It was my inspiration for the up close pic!!!
@blaineg @tinamarie1974

What an adorbable little spooder!

MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
Awwww, I love jumping spiders. I met this one the other day (Phidippus whitmani). He says “Hello!” to your spider friend.
@rinrinrin It’s well-camouflaged!
@Kyeh @rinrinrin camouflaged and cute
@Kyeh I think I only saw it because it moved. Then it tried to hide under bark of a fallen log, but I got a few pictures before it disappeared.
@rinrinrin Nice! It’s a red-head!
