Meh, I was fine with the speaker doc situation until I foolishly stayed up past my bedtime to see what was in store when the store turned. Meh never promised me a rose garden therefore it is my own and @marklog fault that I am disappointed. I should know better.
Honestly, I was just hoping for something better since I stayed up late (ish). Not meh's fault. Probably @marklog's fault.
Are you not aware that meh is making Speaker Dock Fridays an experiment? They're shitting on the dock while also coupling them with things that aren't docks, therefore using reverse psychology to force us to buy the dock AND the other shitty item (a meh shirt which I want to buy seperately). It's genius, really. If they get appeal past the US and South Korea it'll mean the end of world economies every Friday, just to buy a shitty speaker dock off meh.com, plus some bullshit thing to go with it. Will meh always sell the OnBeats? Maybe they'll become the new world currency.
@SSteve Well, they either didn't get it or thought it was too lame to comment upon, but I am sure of my own inner hilarity. The few who got it are just automatically cooler, that's all.
I don't know Peter Van Gelder personally, but I'm a fan of both world music and 60s psychadelia, so Saddhu Brand sitting right at the crossroads of the two gets a lot of play at my place. I have it on MP3 from a blog ages ago, clearly from an LP source and I had no idea a CD even existed until I was pretty mindblown to see it show up in someone else's package. It's like, holy shit, I've been enjoying this for years but what a strange place to see it show up. Besides just being unquestionably good music, I always liked the story behind it, that a group of hippies went to India to learn traditional Indian music properly, and came back and made this one strange, beautiful album. Sure, it may not have been destined to top the chearts in the era of the Monkees, but it's still pretty accessable--I've played it for a lot of folks I wouldn't play, say, Cromagnon for. And yet it's also a lot more authentic than so much music of the time that just dabbled in Eastern instruments like adding spice to a recipe. If Peter Van Gelder really is your dad, then that is awesome. Dude knew Grace Slick, spent years in India, recorded Saddhu Brand, and is STILL an amazing sitar player. He probably has more great stories than just about anybody. Tell dad I think he's awesome.
PS: I have 3 more Meh packages still to come, hopefully one of them is yours because I'd love that CD. Plus also MST3K ball.
PPS: Hey staff, can I have some kind of Meh award for longest totally off-topic post in my own thread?
@Starblind If you don't get the CD and the MST3K ball, let me know. They should go to someone who genuinely appreciates them. I'd be happy to send them. Or even trade boxes. I'm sad I only got two and would like the surprise of opening a 3rd. :)
@bluedyn I'm totally up for that. I loved putting together packages for people, and I'd feel a lot better doing another exchange than just begging for a CD :) Just let me know at alenahan@starblind.com where to send it!
@Starblind It was never released as a CD. I converted it from an album that Peter gave me. I'll definitely let him know you like the album. I'll think he'll be rather pleasantly surprised that someone is listening to it. If you want, I can send you a recording of a sitar house concert he did a couple years ago with an awesome tabla player who was visiting from India. Send me an email at steve theuniversalsteve com. Weird coincidence: this last Saturday I was playing in a big band and one of the sax players knew Peter from his days teaching at the Ali Akbar College of Music in Marin County.
@Starblind I'll send you an email to work out the details tomorrow. My other box already came from you so I'm wondering if you've just got that much amazing stuff laying around or if you're going to pull from the bounty you're receiving. :)
@Foxborn Did you get the one I already sent you? I'm Jessica from gishwhes (in Irving). I could likely round up more stuff now that I have your correct address. It'll take a few days tho . . .
@Starblind I told Peter you listen to the Saddhu Brand album. He was pleasantly amazed. He says he still sees one of the band members, Ken Wilson. They play tennis in Healdsburg. Ken quit music and is now a Sonoma County wine magnate. http://wilsonwinery.com

@patti @marklog, what a bastard.
@patti I think some of us take this a little too seriously.
@marklog You're just mad because it's your fault.
@marklog This is the worst day of my life, please don't trivialize it. Thanks in advance.
Typical @marklog spin/damage control

@molfsontan I also want a shirt. Desperately. I may buckle and buy the dock combo.
@molfsontan if we thought they would become a post-apocalyptic currency we wouldn't sell them
@starblind I get the pun. So far I don't see any signs that anyone else does.
And I still want to know how you know Peter Van Gelder.
@SSteve
Well of course @JonT gets it. He gets all cultural references. I thought that went without saying.
Looks like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same
See, @snapster got it, so it's all been worth it. Another triumph.
@snapster I hope you're happy.

@Starblind Just confirming for you that I am automatically cooler. And inner hilarity is the best hilarity.

@bluedyn what was a way to ID your box? I'm still short one
You won't believe what the current Woot-off item is.
Seriously. No photoshop. Not a joke.
@Starblind And they cost more and don't come with a shirt.
Yep. Factor in the shipping and it's only a $4 savings off Amazon's price. Woot has really hit some bad times. It's sad.
Yep - I also mentioned over there that it was cheaper here. Pathetic...
