@mehcuda67@rockblossom Luckily, my next two days are full of travel time and meetings. Limited time to see what deals there are. That’s a good thing I think?
Yup. Ignore. No real deals, except for maybe the first dozen who click in on a new listing. Otherwise, “Prime Day” prices are usually the same prices listed on Woot, without all of the scurry/hype.
@sammydog01 It pains me to leave you hanging. Unfortunately I’ll be playing catch up in the office for the next several days and won’t be able to follow Prime Day deals.
For me, really the only stuff I would be inclined to consider is the same old boring items I’ve purchased each Prime Day in the past. Fruit of the Loom socks and the giant package of Altoids peppermint Smalls.
Ok, just so you know, I don’t have any money for smart clocks right now. I’ve spent many thousands of dollars on that freakin’ money pit RV in the last two weeks and I’m tapped. I’m currently counting pennies from my desk drawer trying to get together enough change to go buy a $0.79 Pepsi at the corner shop. I CAN’T AFFORD A SMART CLOCK RIGHT NOW! I just can’t do it.
@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01 I keep looking at this thing, trying to talk myself into why I would want one. But I’d most likely put it on my nightstand, where I already have a nice alarm clock and my phone. There’s an Echo that sits 3 feet away from that. Seems like anything I could do on this I could just do on my phone while holding it in a more comfortable position. So why do I still seem to want one?
@cinoclav@ruouttaurmind My alarm clock doesn’t keep time quite right. None of them do. They creep a minute a month forward or back. It drives me crazy. I don’t need to be any more crazy. My phone is a backup.
Do you currently have a S&S schedule? That might be a cause. There are many food items which are eligible for the 40% discount, but I don’t know if you can use/see the coupon if you’re already signed up for S&S. I have done S&S in the past, but always delete the subscriptions after the items arrive.
I’ll be on the lookout for any cheap smart home product deals.
I’m going to use this to get a free phone charger too:
“Prime subscribers: From now through July 16, when you spend at least $10 at a participating Whole Foods store or Prime Now, you’ll get a $10 credit you can use for Amazon.com purchases. You can read about it here: https://www.amazon.com/b/?node=18289242011”
@brandom Pick up 2 pints of Ben & Jerry’s since they’re on sale, and tip over that $10 mark to score essentially free B&J or $10 off some item with a $10 markup.
Notice the only real sales are for buying into the Amazon lock-in ecosystem - Kindles, FireTV, Prime subscription add-ons, etc.
@tinamarie1974 Check your local Lowes. They started about a week (maybe more?) ago but in store deep discounts on their patio furniture. That’s where I got mine a couple of years ago.
Do you live a not horrible drive from rural areas?
Around DFW, if I head, say, 1-1/2 hours or or town, in a direction with small country seats and other towns but no big cities, I start to see stores with locally made handcrafted stuff, or shops with outdoor furniture with a really nice rural flavor. Usually made with wood or wood/iron.
@f00l Timing wasn’t right for me when the $99 deal was offered, and $120 isn’t appealing. Especially when I have five new-in-box Echo devices already unused.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I had over a dozen packages from Amazon or Woot last week, and the $9.99 BOC was the most I spent. Since I doubt Prime Day(s) is going to be that cheap, I’ll be about as active as this cat …
They have the Ring Video Doorbell Pro and an Echo for $169. Good price for the doorbell but we don’t want and probably wouldn’t use the dot. And you have to figure in the ongoing cloud service costs since the damn thing can’t be told to record video locally…
I may try to keep an eye on items on Prime day proper but other than the Instant Pot we got last year, Prime Day has been a bust for us since its inception.
I missed out on a nice NAS unit from their 20% off Warehouse sale… waited to long to check out.
@duodec Check out the Blink XT2 cameras. I believe I read they’re going to have the two pack for $100. They have two way audio on them and don’t require a subscription. If you already have a regular doorbell, these might make more sense.
If “give the gift of Prime” GCs are on sale, then that is the only way to save on Prime. Buy them at a discount (using a CB credit card of course for another 1%), and then schedule them to email to yourself a month before your subscription expires (or email them and save the codes away).
Just used an $89 prime gift I gave myself years back when I bought 5, since we watch Prime video instead of paying for cable.
You can’t use a regular Amazon GC or Amazon credit to pay for Prime, btw. Only credit card (full price) or a special Gift of Prime GC.
Note that, although Prime Day does not include a day that is a prime number, it includes TWO days that are in the “Numbers” from Lost. That’s a good indicator that it will be a lot of hype with a lot more disappointment.
@f00l@UncleVinny I remember that I once knew that stuff, even if I no longer remember that stuff, or why it mattered, or why it has anything to do with Amazon. I’m pretty sure the answer is “Bezos”, but I have no idea why.
@chienfou what’s awesome – a real brain-burner – is that most of the numbers that exist are transcendental, and yet we can only name a few of them. We know they’re out there, but it’s tough to write down many examples.
Irrational numbers, on the other hand, are much easier to name: a lot of square roots can be shown to be irrational, for example. And all transcendentals are irrational.
Every once in a while I chase down one of these Venn diagrams to remind myself of what’s what:
Mostly ignore. Outside of amazon devices it is too difficult to keep up with what is actually on sale or is a good discount. Not putting the effort in is my vote.
I’ve added a buncha stuff I sort of want to my wish list so I can see if any of it goes on sale. Aside from that I’m not planning to get involved. In previous years I’ve been on-board with the free giveaways raffle ticket thing, but this year I can’t get my optimism up.
Okay @f00l. I went over there and looked like you told me to.
I currently have 3 Google Mini’s that I got for 1 cent each awhile back on that weird Spotify deal. But everybody keeps talking about Alexa. Alexa this, Alexa that.
AMZN has Echo Dots on sale for $22 so I need one right? But wait, there’s more! I can get 3 for $60!
So guess what I did? Of course I ordered the 3. After all 3 has been scientifically proven to be three times more than 1.
I’ll just use the T-Shirt money I was planning to spend today over on Woot. That’ll show 'em.
@therealjrn I have used both. IMO (for what’s it worth), there is no comparison between the two. Alexa is better at everything. She is also waaaay more personable. I just disconnected my GM, and put in another Alexa: 1 Show, 1 Echo, 2 Dots in total.
Watch the warehouse deals too. Sometimes you can get a super great deal on Alexa when they offer warehouse sales during the Prime day. My Alexa echo v2 came cheap - said Good Condition - it was fucking new
@mfladd@therealjrn my friends have Alexas. 90% of their use is setting timers, the other 10% is ironically asking dumb questions to see if she knows.
As a result, I still have none in the house — I can easily set timers, and I greatly prefer googling anything I actually want to know. …but maybe someday they’ll invent some cool feature I actually care about, who knows?!
@mfladd@UncleVinny I use my bedroom GM at night to listen to things to fall asleep to. I use the one in my office for background music and I use the one in the kitchen for timers, weather & news mostly. But Google is astoundingly stupid at finding podcasts I want. I’m hoping the echo dots will be better at that, and also since I have Prime, give me a good music selection. I still have the free versions of pandora, spotify, tunein etc which I’m pretty sure the echo can find too.
@therealjrn I do the same in my bedroom for sleep sounds and music. The dot is fine for that, but the echo has a much better speaker. You should be able to find a great deal on a warehouse one for a little more money. You will thank me for the bedroom echo. I was very happy replacing my dot with an echo in the bedroom.
I believe they’re going to have the Blink XT2 two pack for $100. If so, I may pick them up. Great deal for those cameras with long battery life and no subscription plan.
@cinoclav The rest of my yet uninstalled system is Ring. It would be nice if Blink and Ring worked together (being amazon owned), but they don’t. Still might consider them though. Otherwise I am going with Wyze. The Ring cameras are way toooo expensive, in my opinion, to add to my system.
@cinoclav@mfladd I got a Kodak security camera In my last IRK. Nice! I set it up, worked great. Wait, I’m on camera? All the time? It’s back in the box. I’m not ready for life in 2019.
@mfladd I’m all for not having a subscription plan. I installed a SkyBell doorbell for my mother some time ago. It was really highly rated and the night vision is far better than others. It’s been great but I think the bigger brands have taken over and I fear SkyBell may be out of business sometime soon.
I’ll look but probably won’t buy much, if anything. Last year I got a $30 digital giftcard, and got a $10 giftcard
in return. Nothing else. Who knows what could happen this year?
What a load of BS. Amazon attempting to make another Black Friday consumerist nightmare out of nothing. Like Black Friday nowadays, the deals are usually trash since the abundance of competition online keeps prices roughly as low as they can go anyway. Ignoring.
Every time I have ever looked at Prime Day, the ‘deals’ have been extremely underwhelming. Nothing even approaching what most people would think of when they hear the word ‘deal’. I’ll stick with Meh!
Fuck me. I’m done. I spent what money I had. Echo Show w/ stand, 2 Blink indoor/outdoor cameras; small bluetooth amp, power supply, and speaker wire for the Polk speakers I bought here.
@mfladd The new small Show is on sale too? Shit. Now I wish I hadn’t bought the gen 1 version from Woot. Maybe my kid will want that one for college? And I tossed in a $5 smart plug.
@sammydog01 Check what they will give you for trade in value. I know the echo and 1st gen show they were offering $30.
Yup, the new show is $49!
Sorry, if this is super late. I was in VA all day.
I just bought a home so I am watching for Smart everything, I need a TV, furniture, a new kitchen with appliances, a patio set, and a muscle relaxer. I’ll buy any of that if it is a good price.
Was planning on ignore, since there wasn’t anything in particular I was looking for. But one of the deal groups I follow reported an amazon pricing glitch, and I was able to snag a fire stick and echo dot combo for only 12 bucks. We’ll see if they cancel it retroactively, but if they don’t… score.
They got me for a $11 (regularly $16) coffee grinder on a lightening deal. Sure it’s not a burr grinder, but it’s more grinder than what I have now. I figure I need it for my forthcoming fancy schmancy $50 meh coffe maker.
@sammydog01 I was browsing through the lightening deals I think. If you go to the front page and hunt around they have a thing for the lightening deals…I didn’t post the deal because it was almost over when I bought it.
@therealjrn Remember to watch for the warehouse sales. $99 is too much. The show 5 will not have the better speaker the echo has. But I got a show 5 and the Blinks also. I got the indoor/outdoor blinks to give me some versatility with them. I haven’t decided where I am setting them up yet.
@Kidsandliz@KittySprinkles Pleease, it’s just picking up Pornhub from the computer. I know you don’t have Alexa in the bedroom, or the authorities already would have raided the place.
Was planning to (and succeeding at) ignoring it, but now that you’ve reminded me, I’ll probably have a look, find nothing of interest and go back to ignoring.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just went and checked out Amazon. My impression is that Prime Day(s) just makes the place look like Woot!.
Endless lists of random items at questionable savings.
I think these are the two days a year I’d rather shop on Woot! than Amazon.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@kdemo This is how I feel. I canceled Prime a few months after moving last year and haven’t regretted it. I own so much less crap without it there as temptation.
I’ll admit that there’s some specialized items I’ll have trouble finding otherwise; for example, I just bought a used first-gen Microsoft Surface Book, and accessories that fit its weird size aren’t in stock anymore at other places. But I plan to wait until after Prime Day to buy them, and preferably after Amazon hears the demands of its workers in Minnesota and elsewhere.
It’s a shame so much of the Internet is on AWS, so a total escape really isn’t possible. But I do my best to avoid most Amazon subsidiaries - I think the only one I spend any time on is Twitch, and less so nowadays.
@Kawa - You are awesome (VAN MURALS! GROUND SQUIRRELS! SPIT CURLS! AWESOME!)
At least it’s good that the workers are finally able to expose their harsh reality.
So hard to avoid Amazon, and getting harder. They are taking over everything. Glad mediocre is a safe haven so far.
I know three people who have worked in local Amazon warehouses. They don’t know each other and didn’t work in the same location.
All in their 20’s, physically fit, healthy, and active, starting out.
They made decent $ due to endless mandatory overtime. But they were so tired that all they did off-work was to sleep.
In each case - after 1-4 years or so - the work level broke them physically. They were in constant pain. The fatigue was overwhelming. There was 8 such thing as enough sleep. They could no longer move quickly enough or process stuff quickly according to the quotas.
Any absentee instance, even if arranged for in advance, caused them problems. They were treated as tho they were liars.
In particularly Amazon seemed to dislike taking time off for medical appointments. Lots of questions. Insinuations that the employee was malingering or was a trouble-maker.
In each case the person finally found other work and resigned.
Periodically, Amazon contacts at least one of them to see if that person will come back to the old job
@f00l - Reprehensible. Who needs Asian sweatshops when Bezos can create the same conditions here? And all in the name of profit.
I guess he thinks he needs more money?
@kdemo so it would seem, with Amazon warehouses becoming so pervasive (multiple in every state yet? We have like 3-4) sooner rather than later, everyone on the country will know somebody who does or has work(ed) there.
Will what will Amazon do… clean up their act or bump pay to overcome?
Will what will Amazon do… clean up their act or bump pay to overcome?
@kdemo@RedOak Amazon’s $15 minimum throughout the US is higher than Walmart’s $11. No doubt the warehouse work is frantic, but it’s no different versus any other large scale fulfillment center.
No doubt the warehouse work is frantic, but it’s no different versus any other large scale fulfillment center.
I would have thought the work environment would be similar. Until I spoke to someone who has worked at Walmart, then at Amazon, then back to Walmart. And happier there. (All warehouse fulfillment/logistics/packing at both.)
I think the second time round Walmart matched his Amazon pay. He claimed to have a good employment record.
Well hot damn this Prime Day actually worked in my favor and I bought more than the yearly giftcard.
Picked up two Remote Control Holders for dressers, a Fire 4K TV Stick (includes $45 Sling TV credit), a bicycle bag (previously on Woot), and two volumes of Case Closed ($5 off $15 purchase of books using code PRIMEBOOK19 at checkout).
Add the $25 giftcard for the $5 back plus all the discounts (including the Whole Foods promo) and my total came to … $25. Saved many giftcards over the years and I have some credit left for future purchases.
On top of that, I selected “No Rush” shipping and got a few dollars for purchases towards digital movies,books, and music.
Thank you for trying Amazon Photos! You are now eligible to receive $15 off your next purchase on Amazon.com. You received this credit because you started backing up your photos with your free unlimited full-resolution photo storage included with your Prime membership.
At checkout, enter the promotion code to apply the credit to your next eligible purchase. This credit will expire at 11:59 p.m. (PT) on August 31, 2019.
Offer only applies to an order over $25 of products sold by Amazon.com (look for “sold by Amazon.com” on the product detail page). Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities will not qualify for this offer, even if “fulfilled by Amazon.com” or “Prime Eligible”. See all terms and conditions below.
I had uploaded my 1 picture. Haven’t really looked at AMZN Photos to see really what’s it’s all about. Thanks @mfladd!
Apparently I’m fucking paying attention. So far, I dipped my toe in with the coffee grinder…
And then I bought a three-pack of XT2 camers, 12 lithium batteries for them, the AMZN gift card deal, A wi-fi range extender in case I need it for one of the Blinks, an Echo show 5 to watch the cameras on, and rounded it out with a dozen outdoor LED floodlights to replace some shitty barn lights I have on the property…
$10 credit for buying strawberries and blueberries at Whole Foods - just about the only two things competitively priced there.
Our annual (I know this because the top of the screen told me) $25 Amazon gift card for a $5 credit.
$5 for a $24.99 Amazon Smart Plug when ordered via Alexa. (Don’t worry, once in your cart, you can verify and complete the order in the app or in a browser.)
A two pack of TP-Link Smart Plugs for $20.xx. (Yah, I realize other plugs might be a bit cheaper, but we fell into a TP-Link Smart Plug world and have been very happy with them and only a single TP-Link app over and above the Alexa app. I resist additional apps like they’re the plague.)
A couple (the limit) of those $5.49 Samsung 32 GB microSD cards because it seems we’re always needing them and they work fine in Wyze cams.
and just to dot the commercialized afternoon, another wonderful INFRAY double AAA cell penlight flashlight for $9.74. Sweet little flashlight.
@mfladd that is correct. They’re the “lite” model.
Differences vs mini: slightly smaller and 12 Amp vs 15 Amp.
We’ve already got a bunch of those big honking egg shaped models that block outlets and are 15 Amp. I recall we paid $8-9 each for those at various times from B&H and Amazon.
Can’t recall ever using the energy monitoring feature on the eggs since we have a Power Company provided whole house instantaneous power consumption system.
@therealjrn using amazon prime makes me really inpatient when i shop anywhere else.
last week i ordered a $50 echo show on woot and it wont arrive until this week
if it was amazon prime it would’ve gotten here via sunday delivery
@communist@therealjrn Holy crap @communist, not only have I been enjoying my show, I ordered smart plugs and something else from wOOt 2 days ago - they arrived today. I always get 2-3 day shipping from wOOt.
@mfladd@therealjrn from of the looks of the tracking, instead of taking a direct path to my house like with normal amazon prime, the woot shipping is taking the scenic router(via ups mi)
@communist@therealjrn Holy shit, I wondered who bought that stuff. Every single thing they offer is $35+. No, I don’t want the 5 tiny jelly jars for $35.
@communist@mfladd Ha ha! Ok, I’ve bought some very nice balsamic vinegar (twice) and some coffee pods (twice) The vinegar was hella expensive but it was awesome. The coffee pods were around 25-35 cents each…not too bad…but more than some.
@mediocrebot@OldCatLady@communist@mfladd The coffee grinder and Echo dots are out for delivery today! Man, that’s smokin’ fast. My $50 meh coffee maker is shipping too!
Finally I can get a decent cup of coffee around here!
I’m not doing bad so far, I traded in my original OG Amazon echo for $25 and 25% off a new Echo, which means I got an echo show 5 for the sum total of $4.25
@sammydog01 yeah I did the same with my Kindle voyage - the trade and the percent off ended up being more than I paid for it originally so I went for a pre-order on the new Oasis
@nolrak I don’t have the new version Oasis, but I do have an Oasis. I it. I also have a Paperwhite that was a gift from some very special Meh people. It’s not too old. I take it with me almost everywhere I go.
@mike808 These are reasonably decent. If you use them while camping and the water has a bunch of particulate matter in it (pollen, leaves, kicked up mud, etc. it is worth filtering it first through a bandana (or coffee filter if you have one) into a water bottle to remove that stuff. Then use the lifestraw out of the water bottle. Doing this you are less likely to clog the water filter. If they clog at all then you have to suck really hard to get water through them.
@mike808 that isn’t a terrible price, but I recall them going down to 7.84 or close during the holidays.
they are nice to keep on hand if you camp, or just for ‘boil order’ events that might come up.
and while they were the first, one thing I have realized when camping is they are a pain to use to fill a container so keep an eye on the Sawyer brand, they have ends that makes it easier to attach a hose if you are filling a container.
I got a PURPLE boc today… so it will be my first I.R.K. head to head with a boc (if history remains constant and IRKS perform like fuko/us then IRK will win).
@Barney I heard that somewhere. But it cracked me up, I saw a 3d printer on sale on amazon but noticed it was sold by woot! so jumped over to see if there was other stuff and there was the BOC just sitting there… with a PURPLE title, normally I have given up on the $10 bocs, but a PURPLE boc? Had to try it.
I was, I swear, 100% planning on not buying anything, but then the kindle Fires are so cheap, and the trade-in discount on one is off the full price rather than the discounted price, and I had the $10 Whole Foods credit. And $5 credit for my first-generation, non-charging Fire. So I bought two Fire HD 8’s for slightly less than the sale price of one. Anyway, the point of this is that the trade-in discount is off of the full price, for those who are unaware of it but considering a purchase.
@mossygreen I just traded up a really old Fire 7 for a Fire 8 for $21. Sweet! I have another one but it says limit one per household. I bet it resets for Black Friday.
@sammydog01 It’s my fault: I buried the lede. Also: how did you get one for less than I paid for each? My deal feels less amazing now. I too have a stash of Fires for future sales. Also: did you see the 3doodler create nozzle set for $10? Do you already have it?
@mossygreen@sammydog01 I just got one too–traded my old 7 for a new HD 8–pretty slick! ($20) I also upgraded to a Kindle Paperwhite–never have had a Paperwhite, but they look nice. ($25)
@mossygreen@therealjrn You got a better deal on your Paperwhite than me. It’s waterproof so you can climb on your unicorn float and read in the pool. My unicorn float doesn’t hold air so I can’t.
@mossygreen@sammydog01 You need @PoolToyWolf to tell you how to fix it. But I got the $60 Kindle Paperwhite, not the waterproof $85 one Still a screamin’ great deal.
Someone on Reddit pointed out that the 25% off a new Kindle was off the retail price not the discounted price. What? So I traded in my Woot scratch and dent 2012 Paperwhite and got a new waterproof one for $30. And they threw in $5 of books. It will probably stay in it’s box until an older one dies but the price was right.
@sammydog01 what I saw for trade in was a gift card ($25 for my Paperwhite) so I just paid full (well, prime day full) price for the new waterproof one for my wife. For $25 I’ll keep mine and not share. Maybe I didn’t do enough homework but I couldn’t figure out how a trade in made an amazing Kindle deal.
@djslack You get the $25 gift card plus $32 off a new one (25% of retail price). And that’s off the Prime Day price. So it comes out to under $30 and you get $5 of book credit.
@f00l I’m listening to We Are Legion We Are Bob right now. It’s good but you can get it and the kindle version for two dollars more and no membership. I probably paid less.
@f00l@sammydog01 I listened to Bob last year and enjoyed it. But not enough to continue the series.
The selection @f00l linked also includes Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. An amusing romp (probably targeted at YA?) narrated by Banhi Turpin. It’s mindless, unapologetic, pure fun.
You could, if you wanted, go for one of the many current discounted month by month memberships. Those are usually v cheap or free for the first few months.
This would let you into the various sales or today’s deals.
Just set an alarm to cancel before the membership gets expensive.
And then wait for a more serious annual membership deal?
There is a deal for 12 audible credits plus an Echo Dot for $119.00 or so.
The promo is that the cost of the Dot is $.99. and the credits are cheaper than usual.
New members only.* (See below )
I was out of credits. (I recommend anyone trying this first spend any existing credits on books. Come in with zero credits.)
After going back and forth with self about this: I wanted it.
So I called audible CS and asked for this deal. After they explained I couldn’t get it a few times (due to me not being “new”), they gave it to me. (No Dot tho. That’s ok, I only wanted the credits.).
So… If you are considering an audible subscription … Or already have one and want to renew … This might be of interest.
@f00l Usually “new” means you’ve never been a subscriber. In my case though, I’ve been a subscriber many times over the years, but just happen to be between subscriptions right now. I clicky the link and it gives me the option of taking the deal you posted.
Unfortunately timing isn’t right for me, so I’m going to pass. But maybe @sammydog01 is ready for a new subscription and ready to add the 101st Echo device to her collection?
@f00l@ruouttaurmind Nope, I have a fear of commitment. And too many Echo devices.
@Barney If you want to play with one of these things I have a Google Home mini under the bed still in plastic. My mother has hers read bedtime stories.
@Barney@sammydog01 I have my Google devices catch me up on the news while I’m getting ready for work in the mornings. “Hey Google, what are the headlines?”
@Barney@sammydog01 Well, my Google is a girl, and she does anything I ask her nicely to do. And then she remembers it and reminds me of it every day for the rest of my pathetic existence…
Haha, how funny is that - there were two different Amazon delivery vehicles in front of our house at the same time a few minutes ago - one delivering to us and the other across the street!?!
Efficiency and coordination. Although we do have 3 or 4 Amazon facilities in the state so I guess it could make sense.
Still amusing there’s enough Amazon traffic to see them here at the same time. I didn’t notice them even acknowledging each other so perhaps a common thing.
Has anybody watched the Amazon delivery drivers in the Amazon app and noticed they sometimes drive in what appear to be odd, inefficient loops, getting close to your house, but then moving away?
And it didn’t appear to be a UPS driver-like thing where Left Turns are against policy for efficiency reasons.
@RedOak About a week ago there was a serious fire at a neighbor’s house. Several fire trucks, paramedics and police vehicles blocked the streets. As the fire raged on, an Amazon driver parked on the side street next to my house and braved the smoke and police lines to deliver his package to the house next door to the fire. That was one motivated driver right there!
@RedOak Two packages, two vehicles, same time, same address (mine). One was in an Amazon van (delivery service partner), the other a private vehicle (Amazon flex).
I was outside at the time. All I said was “Perfect timing!” and then “thank you!”. They acknowledged each other, at least.
@f00l You and I have discussed Amz and search engine inefficiencies before. I am SO FRUSTRATED each time I try. eBay has gotten just as frustrating.
And to pile onto the frustration… when I do a Amz search I am limited to something like a dozen results per page. But when Amz does a promo deal, their results return dozens and dozens of items per page, like this one for Casio, Citizen and Bulova watches up to 50% off.
Is it possible the specific deal you were searching for was sold out?
@f00l PS: I really don’t recall seeing anything on a Casio smart watch deal. Standard Casio watches, yes. Smart watch, nope. Garmin, Ticwatch, Fitbit and a couple others, but I likely might have noticed a Casio smart watch Prime Day deal.
If someone is looking for excellent sports watches, the garmins are on sale all day.
These watches are as good as it gets for running hiking biking etc. Plus longer battery life, good gps, and some of them will show you called ID and messages.
And the Fenix 5x will display maps.
The Garmin Fenix 5x and the Garmin 935 (this last one not on sale) are premier Ironman and marathoner watches. Not that I am either of those (sometimes I watch other people run)
Re Amazon search and sort:
I’m convinced the frustrating results are entirely deliberate. As is the failure to offer an option to eliminate “related items”.
Amazon seems to have found that it’s more profitable for them to show us what they want us to see than it is to show us what we asked to see.
Ebay is following their lead, bit it’s not quite as bad. And eBay uses different search servers (with diff coding) for mobile vs desktop. Desktop results are more thorough and now accurate in my experience.
@cinoclav yeah I have both manual and digital bodies. I tend to have serious lens envy issues and always want bigger and more powerful lenses (no comments) . That $13,000 one looked pretty awesome!!
I got a 23 and me health + ancestry kit for $99 (about $108 with tax & shipping). That’s half the retail price, and $50 less than their usual sale price. That made Prime Day awesome for me. A gift that cost way less than I expected I’d be paying for it.
I sent a trade-in Kindle Paperwhite to Amazon- it shows as received on 7/17. They haven’t logged it in yet and sent me an email reminding me to ship it. I don’t know if it fell off a truck or they’re just slammed with trade-ins. Anyone else?
@sammydog01 Yeah, I would think that they are slammed with trade-ins. I wouldn’t worry until the cop cars show up with an arrest warrant for breach of contract.
@Barney@sammydog01 My trade-ins are still at the third-party “access point” shipper. I guess the worse thing that can happen is Amazon will charge me for the credits they already gave me…wait.
AMAZON IS GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE CREDITS THEY GAVE ME!!! ARRRGH!
Blame: I will basically be driving the entire day.
Unblame: I will basically be driving the entire day.
@mfladd Prime “Day” is 48 hours. You are driving the whole time? I hope I’m not on the same roads you are taking.
@mfladd @rockblossom Maybe he’s driving laps?
@mehcuda67 @rockblossom Luckily, my next two days are full of travel time and meetings. Limited time to see what deals there are. That’s a good thing I think?
@mehcuda67 @mfladd @rockblossom but think of the savings you will miss
/giphy OMG
@mehcuda67 @rockblossom @tinamarie1974
@mehcuda67 @mfladd @rockblossom no problem! Always happy to help you make bad decisions
@mfladd @rockblossom @tinamarie1974 Bad, bad decisions!
@mehcuda67 @mfladd @rockblossom Well, those ARE the most fun
@mehcuda67 @rockblossom @tinamarie1974 You look apprehensive. Relax, and just trust me
@mehcuda67 @mfladd @rockblossom
Is that today???
@therealjrn
I think it’s a 48 hour distractionfest.
Monday-Tuesday starting at midnight PT Tonite.
I think.
Yup. Ignore. No real deals, except for maybe the first dozen who click in on a new listing. Otherwise, “Prime Day” prices are usually the same prices listed on Woot, without all of the scurry/hype.
I’m counting on @ruouttaurmind to tell me what to buy.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
You’re better just quit your job or close down the biz then.
The deals topic calls you. You must heed the call.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind But, but… I guess I just won’t buy anything then.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind You can still buy Fruit of the Loom socks and the giant package of Altoids peppermint Smalls, @sammydog01!
@sammydog01 Ok, so I lied…
Prime Day Deal: Amazon Echo Show 5 for $50 and free shipping.
/image echo show 5
@ruouttaurmind I bought one and even went for the $5 smart plug add-on. Now I need to figure out what to so with my extra gen 1 Show…
@sammydog01 @Barney needs one to put in her drawer-o-tech!
@Barney @ruouttaurmind YES SHE DOES! I expect it make a great alarm clock. They have the new Lenovo Smart Clock for $60 at places that aren’t Amazon.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Nope, nope, nope. I don’t need alarm clocks anymore.
But I did buy that WiFi extender thingy for my nightstand drawer.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind Wait, do I need one too?
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 YES! Why not?
(I used part of my Amazon gift card.)
@Barney @ruouttaurmind I did buy non-compatible printer ink because it was a buck.
@sammydog01 Lenovo Smart Clock?
It’ll be here Saturday.
@sammydog01 You never told me what kind it is. I just might double your investment in it.
@Barney HP 951
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I keep looking at this thing, trying to talk myself into why I would want one. But I’d most likely put it on my nightstand, where I already have a nice alarm clock and my phone. There’s an Echo that sits 3 feet away from that. Seems like anything I could do on this I could just do on my phone while holding it in a more comfortable position. So why do I still seem to want one?
@sammydog01 Nope, I won’t be making you a wealthy woman. I need hp560 ink. Darn!
@cinoclav @ruouttaurmind My alarm clock doesn’t keep time quite right. None of them do. They creep a minute a month forward or back. It drives me crazy. I don’t need to be any more crazy. My phone is a backup.
@cinoclav You don’t want one. @ruouttaurmind is just trying to turn you into a shopping addict like he has the rest of us. Resist. You must resist.
@sammydog01 Nope wrong again. hp564.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind I’ve resisted!
@Barney Looks like you need a new printer that takes 951. (Color only)
@sammydog01 I know this is hard to believe, but I’ve got two other printers, both brand new. I’ll try to survive.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn The Altoids deal finally dropped. Still waiting on my socks.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I didn’t see a coupon to clip. I even logged out and cleared cookies…not a huge fan anyway. thanks
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I went with the show 5 and paid the extra $14 for the adjustable stand.
@therealjrn
Do you currently have a S&S schedule? That might be a cause. There are many food items which are eligible for the 40% discount, but I don’t know if you can use/see the coupon if you’re already signed up for S&S. I have done S&S in the past, but always delete the subscriptions after the items arrive.
@ruouttaurmind I have had one in the past…hm…maybe I need to go double-check that I don’t have anything on it…
I’ll be on the lookout for any cheap smart home product deals.
@brandom and you get a free reusable Wholefoods shopping bag too! Bonus.
At this point the only thing I need is a patio set and I do not think there will be any smoking deals. I might check in from time to time, but meh…
@tinamarie1974 Check your local Lowes. They started about a week (maybe more?) ago but in store deep discounts on their patio furniture. That’s where I got mine a couple of years ago.
@therealjrn thanks, I will check it out. Problem is I tend to have expensive taste, while trying to be thrifty (thrifty sounds better than cheap lol)
@tinamarie1974 Don’t tarry long, the good shit goes fast. Home Depot might do it too, come to think of it, along with Sam’s and Costco.
@therealjrn I will check on the way home tomorrow. Everything I like at Sam’s is well over $1,000. Fingers crossed!
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974 Target has some pretty nice sets too. They’re also doing deals tomorrow and Tuesday, online only.
@cinoclav @therealjrn ooohhhh I Target! On my list TYVM!
@cinoclav @therealjrn @tinamarie1974
If you want something a little different …
@cinoclav @f00l @therealjrn lol I live in a rural area. Horse stables are across the road, next to some farm land
@tinamarie1974 remember that if you use a redcard for your target order you get 5% off. Not a HUGE savings, but hell it’s free money… so why not.
Amazon is currently offering a “deal”:
12 audible credits plus an Alexa device (a dot?) for about $120.
But I already have a 12-credit deal for $99;
and I am opting out of the Amazon consumer surveillance program. So I don’t want a Dot or whatever.
If Amazon offers again the deal I already have, I’ll do that.
@cinoclav @duodec and I have Blink installed in my house. it! Super easy to set up and use. Image quality is great and free cloud storage
Also CS is amazing if you need to contact them for any reason.
Ignore
prime is a total waste of money
/
I want the how to train your dragon toothless to drop in price.
@jml326 The Toothless what, though? That describes a dozen or more products
@PooltoyWolf the hatching egg thing
Big yawn here. Prime Day has always been major hype and minor discount. It’s supposed to be 60% off or better, not 0.6%.
Here’s a good list:
https://www.distractify.com/p/amazon-prime-day-memes
Number last:
@blaineg
/giphy prime number
@blaineg Loved the article.
Note that, although Prime Day does not include a day that is a prime number, it includes TWO days that are in the “Numbers” from Lost. That’s a good indicator that it will be a lot of hype with a lot more disappointment.
@blaineg @rockblossom (july)15 + 16 = 31.
I’d bet 15^16 is a prime also but I’m not doing that math …
@stolicat No math needed. Any number that is the product of two or more numbers is not a prime number, by definition.
@rockblossom that’s correct, my hs math teacher is scowling at me from beyond the grave.
/giphy math teacher scowl
@rockblossom @stolicat
(2 x 1 x 1) = not a prime number?
(Ignore me. just being an ass. )
/giphy 2
@stolicat you…MURDERED your high school math teacher?!?
@stolicat @UncleVinny
It’s the least one could do under the circumstances. Right?
@f00l Yup. That was a Prime example of me forgetting the exceptions of multiplication by one.
@rockblossom
/giphy primed!
@f00l @rockblossom now we can get into why 0 factorial is equal to 1, and why e to the power of (i*pi) = -1.
@rockblossom @UncleVinny
/giphy “you go ahead and dive right in, hon”
@f00l @UncleVinny I remember that I once knew that stuff, even if I no longer remember that stuff, or why it mattered, or why it has anything to do with Amazon. I’m pretty sure the answer is “Bezos”, but I have no idea why.
@f00l @rockblossom the square root of Bezos is Bezeros, or Bejeezus if you’re in base 12.
@f00l @rockblossom @UncleVinny that sounds oddly similar to Beetlejuice
@f00l @UncleVinny I’m in the middle of Walmart country, where 1 Bezos = 1 million Beelzebubs.
@f00l @rockblossom @tinamarie1974 @UncleVinny
WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
@chienfou @UncleVinny
No matter how much one (or one’s culture) knows about mathematics, the universe of math is always “bigger and deeper than that”.
Much larger. Unfathomably larger. And then way way larger than that.
We won’t be running out of areas to explore in the mathematical universe. Right now, we’re prob only in a very minuscule corner of it.
/giphy bigger
@f00l @rockblossom @UncleVinny “Can we…” What’s this we stuff?
@OldCatLady you and me, OldCatLady! Let’s go sort out the world of mathematics! All the experts are just wasting time sitting on their ties.
@f00l that feller is not taking a “wait-and-see” approach w.r.t. personal defense.
@OldCatLady @UncleVinny
/giphy “sorted out”
Mostly ignore.
@therealjrn
Amazon thanks you for giving them (and their partners) your voice.
My Alexa echo v2 came cheap - said Good Condition - it was fucking new
@mfladd @therealjrn my friends have Alexas.
@mfladd @UncleVinny I use my bedroom GM at night to listen to things to fall asleep to.
@mfladd I’ll keep a sharp eye out then, thanks!
@mfladd @therealjrn so you are ok with Bezos listening to your bedroom sounds? Hhuummm
…
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974
@mfladd @therealjrn just squeaking and no moaning…something is wrong there. Maybe ask Alexa for advice
@mfladd @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 That sounds like a night with the pooltoy wolf
@mfladd @PooltoyWolf @therealjrn
@mfladd @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 -whistles innocently-
Ignoring.
/giphy ignoring day
I believe they’re going to have the Blink XT2 two pack for $100.
@cinoclav @mfladd I got a Kodak security camera In my last IRK.
The very first Prime Day was a big fail:
Ignoring. Too broke.
PrImE DaY!!1!1!
ALSO - Target Deal days are today and tomorrow.
@RedHot Congrats!
@RedHot damn amazon sells everything these days, geeze the delivery costs on a new home make the prime price increase seem worth it.
@RedHot @thismyusername Some assembly required:
https://smile.amazon.com/Allwood-Eagle-Vista-1336-Cabin/dp/B077L6KSGM/
@narfcake @RedHot @thismyusername Free shipping! Nice deal Narf! N-4-3
@therealjrn How did you even find it? All I see are amazon devices, page after page.
@sammydog01 I was browsing through the lightening deals I think. If you go to the front page and hunt around they have a thing for the lightening deals…I didn’t post the deal because it was almost over when I bought it.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn me too!
@sammydog01 @tinamarie1974
You too what? You got the coffee grinder? We’re coffee grinder twinsies?
@sammydog01 @therealjrn oh no, sorry. Having the same issues Sammydog is facing trying to find anything beyond Amazon licensed product.
@sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 …okay… :kicks dirt with toe:
@sammydog01 @therealjrn aawwww
/giphy ghost hug
@therealjrn $11?! Does it look like I have money?!?
(Disclaimer: I bought the $1 WTF one from Woot last week.)
@therealjrn Save up and get a Baratza Encore Burr Grinder. It’s legit. Even grind like you read about.
@zinimusprime Oh hells ya. Those look nice. I used to have a (forget what brand) burr grinder but it wasn’t as nice as those.
@therealjrn Did you find your echo yet?
@mfladd Not the Echo proper, but I did buy a $50 Echo show 5 for the Blink cameras I bought. I’m not seeing the Echos for less than $99…hm
@therealjrn I bought one for the wife a couple years back and it’s been awesome. I’ve had to replace apart or two, but that’s it.
KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
@mfladd After we last spoke, I found new Echos for $49.99 Prime Day deal. But since I haven’t even tried out the dots, I decided to wait…thanks for the expert advice though!
https://www.amazon.com/all-new-amazon-echo-speaker-with-wifi-alexa-heather-gray/dp/B0749WVS7J/
I’ll probably regret it, but I figured I’ll have my plate full enough with 3 blinks, 3 dots and the echo show 5.
@therealjrn I get it, but you will have to wait another year for that sweet bedroom sound at a sweet price
“Alexa? Please play those sweet sounds from @mfladd’s bedroom please.”
@therealjrn
@mfladd @therealjrn deja vu
@kittysprinkles THERE ARE NOISES COMING FROM @mfladd’s BEDROOM!!
@Kidsandliz @KittySprinkles Pleease, it’s just picking up Pornhub from the computer. I know you don’t have Alexa in the bedroom, or the authorities already would have raided the place.
@Kidsandliz @mfladd If you hear the quiet sounds of a little girl crying, yeah that’s him.
Was planning to (and succeeding at) ignoring it, but now that you’ve reminded me, I’ll probably have a look, find nothing of interest and go back to ignoring.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Went through a lot of deals before I gave up and really the Sonos soundbar is the only thing that has me intrigued…trying to talk myself out of it.
@MrMark ah fuck it, I’m going for it. This current sound bar is shit.
@MrMark well…that sort of sucks. But
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Definitely the easiest no-brainer. Buy a $25 Amazon gift card and get $5 free.
@cinoclav So I send you a $25 gift card and I get $5 back. Is that how this works?
@cinoclav Got mine! Thanks!
@cinoclav @therealjrn My kind of deal. Thanks!
@MrMark Sure. And then you can send me that $5 too!
@cinoclav hey or those folks who are paying @aertis for pizza/beer with Amazon GC’s can make their donations and make a cool $5 on the deal!!!
@cinoclav Thanks GOAT, appreciate the tip on this one.
Just went and checked out Amazon. My impression is that Prime Day(s) just makes the place look like Woot!.
Endless lists of random items at questionable savings.
I think these are the two days a year I’d rather shop on Woot! than Amazon.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@DennisG2014 Ironically, one of the Prime Day deals was something from Woot a month ago: A bike bag. Was $10 and change just like Woot.
Boycotting in support of shameful warehouse worker treatment. Wish I had what it takes to escape Amazon completely.
FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
@kdemo
I just noticed how poorly I worded my op. Glad you got the point anyway.
@kdemo @RedOak
They will wait until either bad PR, lawsuits, union organizing, and/or legislation force them to do better.
Then they will try to get away with band-aid improvements if they can.
@kdemo @RedOak Amazon’s $15 minimum throughout the US is higher than Walmart’s $11. No doubt the warehouse work is frantic, but it’s no different versus any other large scale fulfillment center.
@kdemo @narfcake @RedOak
Dunno how representative his experiences were.
@f00l @RedOak - Exactly! No way they’ll do the right thing for the right reasons. The $15 wage is hugely beneficial to the company, and does not make up for inhumane practices.
@kdemo @narfcake @RedOak
Pennsylvania has a few of them near the Allentown - Philly areas. They pay more than 15 an hour and have a hard time filling those spots
@f00l Hmm I wonder if they now run Whole Foods that way too.
I just got The $15 Amazon Credit that was posted in the deals thread for uploading 1 photo to the Amazon Cloud app. A little more money to spend!
@mfladd for others I think this is the link:
https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=16334255011
no idea if it will work by going directly.
@mfladd @thismyusername I got my $15 credit email last night!
The Aristocrats!
Had planned to mostly ignore but…
$10 credit for buying strawberries and blueberries at Whole Foods - just about the only two things competitively priced there.
@RedOak Those TP-link smart plugs weren’t the mini’s though, right?
@mfladd that is correct. They’re the “lite” model.
Differences vs mini: slightly smaller and 12 Amp vs 15 Amp.
We’ve already got a bunch of those big honking egg shaped models that block outlets and are 15 Amp. I recall we paid $8-9 each for those at various times from B&H and Amazon.
Can’t recall ever using the energy monitoring feature on the eggs since we have a Power Company provided whole house instantaneous power consumption system.
I’ve had a pretty severe stomach bug since Friday. I don’t really care about Prime Day right now.
@rtjhnstn Cheer up! They have Pepto Bismol on Prime Day deals!
I shit you not, I just looked. lol
@rtjhnstn @therealjrn
Heh
Those warehouse people, they are flat on it. My coffee grinder and my 3 dots from today are already shipped and due here Wednesday.
@therealjrn They certainly are. I placed an order for air fryer accessories at 0606 today, and the order is three stops from me now.
@therealjrn using amazon prime makes me really inpatient when i shop anywhere else.
last week i ordered a $50 echo show on woot and it wont arrive until this week
if it was amazon prime it would’ve gotten here via sunday delivery
@communist @therealjrn Holy crap @communist, not only have I been enjoying my show, I ordered smart plugs and something else from wOOt 2 days ago - they arrived today. I always get 2-3 day shipping from wOOt.
@communist @mfladd My “fulfilled by Amazon” things from Woot usually get here in 2-3 days too. The “real” woot things take longer.
And the shit I order from wine/gourmet woot takes forever! But at least I’m paying an inflated price there.
@mfladd @therealjrn from of the looks of the tracking, instead of taking a direct path to my house like with normal amazon prime, the woot shipping is taking the scenic router(via ups mi)
@communist @therealjrn Holy shit, I wondered who bought that stuff. Every single thing they offer is $35+. No, I don’t want the 5 tiny jelly jars for $35.
@communist @mfladd Ha ha! Ok, I’ve bought some very nice balsamic vinegar (twice) and some coffee pods (twice) The vinegar was hella expensive but it was awesome. The coffee pods were around 25-35 cents each…not too bad…but more than some.
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot @OldCatLady @communist @mfladd The coffee grinder and Echo dots are out for delivery today! Man, that’s smokin’ fast. My $50 meh coffee maker is shipping too!
Finally I can get a decent cup of coffee around here!
“Alexa, how do I make coffee?”
@therealjrn
https://shirt.woot.com/offers/alexa-bring-me-coffee
@communist @mediocrebot @OldCatLady @therealjrn Yup, I am already looking at my Show 5 all set up now!
And yup, the speaker on the show does not compare to the Echo one. But it’s going to be great for our Blink cameras.
@communist @mediocrebot @mfladd @OldCatLady @therealjrn Mine too! I’m pretty sure I asked for slow shipping but they think I’m impatient.
I’m not doing bad so far, I traded in my original OG Amazon echo for $25 and 25% off a new Echo, which means I got an echo show 5 for the sum total of $4.25
@nolrak Damn I should have thought of that.
@sammydog01 it was kind of a whim that I even checked the trade in, I would have never figured the original echo would be worth anything
@nolrak Well, you made me look. My new Echo is on the way. My old one was worth $25. also. Thanks!
@nolrak I did that with my old Kindles- the percent off is awesome.
VAN MURALS! GROUND SQUIRRELS! SPIT CURLS! AWESOME!
@Barney @nolrak Did you know if you turn it on the screen will light up and have words on it Barney?
@Barney Meh people are the very best kinds of people
@nolrak Yes, they are.
@therealjrn This is one piece of tech I’m pretty good with.
Aaand… I just bought a Piston Delivery BOC.
@OldCatLady Woo Hoo!
Nothing…that’s what Amazon means to me…nothing, absolutely nothing
Any others interested in the $9.89 Lifestraw? Deal or no deal?
@mike808 The AMZN front page rankings said they were best sellers in Canada.
@thismyusername Thx. More for boil order events. Will look at Sawyer if I think I’ll have a bigger problem the Lifestraw won’t solve.
I got a PURPLE boc today… so it will be my first I.R.K. head to head with a boc (if history remains constant and IRKS perform like fuko/us then IRK will win).
@thismyusername Aww… I love purple.
@thismyusername Fingers crossed that you got a good one.
@mossygreen If I had read your post all the way through I wouldn’t have needed to see it on Reddit. Thanks!
@mossygreen I have a nozzle set but picked up a spare. Thanks.
The Fire 8 is $80 so 25% is $20 off and $30 off for Prime Day. I got $10 in credit for my crappy Fire since it’s fine just soooooo slow.
80-20-30-10 = $20.
@mossygreen @sammydog01 I just got one too–traded my old 7 for a new HD 8–pretty slick! ($20) I also upgraded to a Kindle Paperwhite–never have had a Paperwhite, but they look nice. ($25)
@mossygreen @therealjrn You got a better deal on your Paperwhite than me. It’s waterproof so you can climb on your unicorn float and read in the pool. My unicorn float doesn’t hold air so I can’t.
@mossygreen @sammydog01 You need @PoolToyWolf to tell you how to fix it. But I got the $60 Kindle Paperwhite, not the waterproof $85 one Still a screamin’ great deal.
@mossygreen @sammydog01 @therealjrn Awwww I totally missed this! I do offer inflatable repair services, in fact.
@sammydog01 Ahh. Yeah, that’s much more compelling. Maybe I’ll upgrade my own next year.
@djslack @sammydog01 There’ll probably be AT LEAST another deal for Black Friday.
Infected. Succumbed.
Some sort of waterproof picnic/camping/tarp thing. I don’t need it at the moment. But potentially useful.
Sigh. Calling …
/giphy Marie Kondo
@f00l could also come in handy the next time you have ‘wet job’ to clean up after.
If any of you have an audible credit subscription (@ruouttaurmind?):
Audible is offering a few audiobooks to us at $5.00 each as part of the Prime Day event.
https://www.audible.com/ep/member-appreciation-special-jul19?pf_rd_p=02d10d3c-f460-4ce2-aa23-e68619619db1&pf_rd_r=ME5RCADZ3PCPVA27VCC4&ref=a_ep_member_c4_pageBack&page=1
Most notable general interest book might be
Tom Wolff
The Right Stuff
But the are some other goodies.
Price good until midnight PT
@f00l I’m listening to We Are Legion We Are Bob right now. It’s good but you can get it and the kindle version for two dollars more and no membership. I probably paid less.
@f00l Thanks for the HU!
I reached the end of my last subscription back in about April or so. Holding off on a new sub until I can catch up on all the moving expenses.
@f00l @sammydog01 I listened to Bob last year and enjoyed it. But not enough to continue the series.
The selection @f00l linked also includes Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. An amusing romp (probably targeted at YA?) narrated by Banhi Turpin. It’s mindless, unapologetic, pure fun.
@ruouttaurmind
An idea:
You could, if you wanted, go for one of the many current discounted month by month memberships. Those are usually v cheap or free for the first few months.
This would let you into the various sales or today’s deals.
Just set an alarm to cancel before the membership gets expensive.
And then wait for a more serious annual membership deal?
@f00l They sent me a $3 mo for 3 mos offer on 7/11, so I may do that one.
So… If you are considering an audible subscription … Or already have one and want to renew … This might be of interest.
https://www.audible.com/ep/lto-2?source_code=AUDDG1900701199QJ1
Expect to have to call Audible CS and argue a bit if you already have a membership sub.
This is a quick process. No long holds. They are human and responsive. I don’t hate calling them.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
I think “new subscriber” means whatever a company wants it to mean.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 This is a pretty good deal. But then again, what would I do with an Echo Dot? The tech drawer is getting a little full.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind Nope, I have a fear of commitment. And too many Echo devices.
@Barney If you want to play with one of these things I have a Google Home mini under the bed still in plastic. My mother has hers read bedtime stories.
@sammydog01 Thanks for the offer, but I don’t think that this kind of stuff is ever gonna be my thang.
@Barney @sammydog01 I have my Google devices catch me up on the news while I’m getting ready for work in the mornings. “Hey Google, what are the headlines?”
@Barney @ruouttaurmind Alexa plays the Tonight Show monologue in my news feed. Does Hey Google do that, does he? I bet he doesn’t.
@Barney @sammydog01 Well, my Google is a girl, and she does anything I ask her nicely to do. And then she remembers it and reminds me of it every day for the rest of my pathetic existence…
@Barney @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 but apparently she does not.like your mom. Better keep an eye on her
@Barney @ruouttaurmind Sounds about right.
The sales listings can be a pain.
Aiding someone, I searched for a deal on Casio smartwatches. Using the app.
Not shown under women’s or men’s watches. Not under sports gear. Not under cell phones and accessories.
Tho … That watch was/is on sale as part of prime day. A time limited sale, not an all day sale.
You just have to go directly to the item.
Afaik you can’t find that watch in the prime day deals pages.
Maybe I just got tired of looking for it. Dunno.
It would seem to me that they could sell more crap if they made stuff easier to find.
@f00l Got it! The ProTrek for $200?
@ruouttaurmind
Yes. This one
Casio Men’s “Pro Trek” Outdoor GPS Resin Sports Watch, Color: Black & Indigo Blue (Model WSD-F20A-BUAAU) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C89JM25/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3nLlDbM088MZP
@ruouttaurmind
So that watch sale is done.
Oh well. This is our world now.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind Yeah, eBay has gotten pretty bad. Not Amazon bad, but definitely not as useful as it was before.
Walmart has managed to make their results as bad as Amazon’s, though.
Hey @narfcake:
Any current series prime day deals at shirt.woot?
Not discounts to $15. Sleuthing better than that. Say, 2fer pricing or the like.
@f00l Buy one get one with Prime.
https://forums.woot.com/t/buy-a-shirt-get-a-shirt-free/454414?u=lady5tark
Good until 11:59 pm tonight, July 16.
@Barney
Ooh. Thx!
Wanna try audible? Got prime?
Here’s an offer.
Set your fancy Alexa device to remind you to cancel in 3 months if you wanna.
https://slickdeals.net/f/13172218-amazon-prime-members-3-months-audible-membership-5-month-new-subscribers?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
Purple kittencorn! Because purple.
https://smile.amazon.com/TeeTurtle-Reversible-Kittencorn-Mini-Violet/dp/B07H48ZLYG
@narfcake I love purple.
How did I miss this?!
https://petapixel.com/2019/07/17/amazon-accidentally-sold-13000-camera-gear-for-100-on-prime-day/?utm_source=digg&utm_medium=email
@cinoclav omg this makes me sick! The lenses I could have purchased
@tinamarie1974 I need the whole camera body!
@cinoclav yeah I have both manual and digital bodies. I tend to have serious lens envy issues and always want bigger and more powerful lenses (no comments) . That $13,000 one looked pretty awesome!!
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
@tinamarie1974 Oh, so many easy ‘body’ lines…
@cinoclav hhuummm, I thought you would hit the bigger and more powerful
@cinoclav @tinamarie1974 OMG! With how often I check slickdeals, you would think I would of checked it on Prime Day! Nope!
@cinoclav @mfladd I so wish you would have seen it!!
I got a 23 and me health + ancestry kit for $99 (about $108 with tax & shipping). That’s half the retail price, and $50 less than their usual sale price. That made Prime Day awesome for me. A gift that cost way less than I expected I’d be paying for it.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@Barney @sammydog01 My trade-ins are still at the third-party “access point” shipper. I guess the worse thing that can happen is Amazon will charge me for the credits they already gave me…wait.
AMAZON IS GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE CREDITS THEY GAVE ME!!! ARRRGH!
