24So kudos to team meh, normally the robot check is the choke point, but today they seem to have upped their game…
a 30+meg animated background image… ooof.
so I fixed it on my desktop with ublock origin… if you would like to eliminate that ginormous background gifimation in your Ublock Origin goto Dashboard, My Filters and add the following:

@RiotDemon @thismyusername I am not getting that problem - once loaded, no problem. I just checked by opening main page in new tab.
@RiotDemon @stolicat @thismyusername I just opened firefox (mac NOT running the latest system as I haven’t upgraded office yet so not 64 bit compatible). So far I don’t sound like a jet revving things up to take off. Now lets hope using that browser I don’t get sidewalks and other bs.

Well that explains what is driving my fan on my computer to go at top speed and the back of my computer to get really, really hot. I get off the home page and it all goes away. Sigh. Too bad I have no idea what you are talking about with respect to a fix, how to find it (mac)… Thanks for posting though. Guess it will help some get the irks faster.
@Kidsandliz I am using ublock origin, but you should be able to add it to any blocking mechanism.

@Kidsandliz so you mentioned above it didn’t work in firefox… but did you attempt to block the gif in firefox?
if not it’s gonna keep happening as it juggles the memory to keep a giant animated gif like that going.
@thismyusername no haven’t tried that yet.
That looks like a lot of work for something that shouldn’t be a problem. I haven’t had that problem - once it loaded once it’s been there right away. Also, the fact that it had not loaded yet didn’t stop me from being able to hit the BUY button for that first IRK.
On an iMac with latest Firefox browser. Maybe it’s configuration dependent? Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s my fault.

Thank goodness. I couldn’t get ABP to work, either, so I really appreciate the information. That gif was driving me nuts and yes, it was making the page load slower.
I guess that explains why the first IRK took so long to sell out.

Looks like they dropped the resolution (and size) of the robot animation as of 8:00a Central.
Ok, gave up on the animation entirely. Sorry about that fan-load, our photography team thought we were a bit more in the future than we are.
Right as I was about to look into this I hit refresh and a wonderful static image. So nice.
@dave Thank you for doing dealing with the issue. It was a nice idea though even though none of us have a Watson. Yet anyway. I am sure there will come a day were a Watson is like a PC junior or 128K mac.
@dave Is the ScanBot 5000 overheating just a coincidence or was it a last minute rewrite?
@dave I have no idea what problems people are referring to. I loaded that page with the GIF in the background several times and never experienced any issues. I use both a Samsung Galaxy S8+ running Android Pie, and an HP notebook with Windows 10.
I was not familiar with Ublock Origin for chrome but it’s installed now.
Woo hoo! Gonna use uBlock Origin from now on.
