I don’t microwave steam anything, but I stand by Sistema. They’re good at, uh, keeping, uh, certain, uh, “herbal” aromatics at “bay” when hidden on a bookshelf.
My particular containers don’t have a steam vent, so I don’t know how good these would be for that purpose.
I bought one of these sets last time around and was surprised at how well the steaming works in a microwave oven. I wasn’t expected very much but these steam broccoli and other veggies to perfection once you get the timing right. The large one filled with fresh broccoli comes in perfectly at 5 minutes in my oven. If I want them steamed more than my wife does I let the broccoli sit in the unopened container for another 5 minutes.
How to steam veggies in a microwave in four easy steps:
Open your cabinet and pull out a bowl and a plate.
Dampen your veggies and put them in the bowl. Cover the bowl with the plate.
Put the bowl of veggies in the microwave.
Turn on the microwave and let it run for a few minutes. When the plate rattles and makes noise on top of the bowl, check your veggies. They’re probably perfectly done.
How to steam veggiebear:
Sell a special-use product called a “microwave steamer”.
@veggiebear I get the appeal of a plastic container to steam veggies. Whenever I cook veggies in a non plastic bowl in my microwave, the bowl gets to about 3 billion degrees… No matter if the bowl is microwave safe or not.
Hell, this should have been a Mother’s Day deal, not on Father’s Day! Give us something good like a Swiss Army knife with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS you idiots!
I bought the green set last time. I cooked some broccoli in the bowl. I think I put too much water in the bottom, but I don’t really know the correct amount. It came out okay. I dunno. It’s a nice green color.
