It’s a fine tool so far. One thing to remember is that if you give a moose a muffin . . .
It’s clear that once you have this, you will need a pinpointer and a small, sharp shovel, and a glass of milk for the moose. It’s fun for sure, but know to use it on anything not laying on top of the earth, you will need additional tools. Worth it, though. I found a knife in a rock wall that cleaned up nicely with wd-40 and some 4 aught steel wool first time out.
I bought this one on meh, and it did take some time to get used to it. I can confirm that you’ll want to get a pinpointer (like a metal detector magic wand) and maybe a trowel. The pinpointer would have saved us a ton of time on our first outings. They’re only about $20 and well worth it.
We took it to our creek and our experience wasn’t that great. Then hit a volleyball court, and realized this thing works really well. Found a tiny, needle-sized nail in the sand, along with $1.26 in coins. Had to dig a bit for the penny - remarkably, the ‘penny’ indicator accurately identified it from the start!
Can any other purchasers guide me in using the carrying bag correctly? I expected to slide the assembled detector in, but the only way I can put everything in the bag is to completely disassemble it… which leaves me using 20% of the bag’s volume. Clearly I’m missing something.
