We bought this Fern and Willow travel pillow set because we have a similar travel pillow that we both like [no idea on the brand; got it at TJ Maxx a few years ago]. I use that older one in a donut shape to keep my hypermobile neck in proper position while lounging, and to help me not lay on fresh ear piercings. I also used it curved around my abdomen to keep our pets off of my sore belly while recuperating in bed after having surgeries earlier this year. My husband uses it either straight or in a C shape to keep his head in proper position when using his CPAP. I figured if we had more, we wouldn’t have to fight over that one pillow.
In comparison, these are a tad longer [too long for me to wear as a makeshift neck brace], somehow both firmer and not as dense [not very comfortable to me but he thinks they’re fine], and the spines [the connected ball joints inside that make them moldable] are stiffer/don’t have smooth movement and are noisy, with a very annoying, squeaky, plastic-on-plastic sound even when simply adjusting your head slightly. I don’t know what they think “gel fiber fill” is, as ‘fiber’ means something different IMO, and these are just solid memory foam over the plastic spines. I don’t consider them to be hypoallergenic - they made my nose stuffy and itchy from the perfumed laundry soap-type scent that mostly disguises a mild chemical/mildewy smell - those odors were absent once the outer velveteen covers were unzipped and removed for laundering. There is a sewn-on white knit inner cover over the foam; this is a plus because our other one is ‘naked’ inside its jersey cover, but also a minus because I can’t take it off to wash unless I cut open the serged edge.
The other night while sleeping with one of these, I had a nightmare that my neck was killing me and I had to hold my head still with my hands or else my neck would make those creaking noises before my head ripped itself off of my body [such a fun dream! /s]. When I woke up and realised how much my neck actually hurt, I threw this pillow across the room and grabbed a regular one.
So I’m claiming the old travel pillow, and he can have these screechy things.
