@blaineg@un4gvn1 No. It needs to be like in Full Metal Jacket. Do not punish the liar, punish everybody else. One sock party later and it should be running ok.
@blaineg@yakkoTDI The only problem with that theory is the beatings have been happening for years yet swamp rats like McConnell and Widen keep getting reelected. Apparently the voters have a masochistic streak…
These collars are very effective and i highly recommended them. I have only used the beep and vibrate functions to help control my dog when she gets her herding instinct in full gear.
First off it is more than a “shock collar”. But it is just like any other tool. It just is. Can it be abused? Absolutely. Can it be a great tool if used correctly to train a dog, making him/her part of your pack and thereby giving the dog purpose? Yes. Let’s stop blaming tools for peoples actions.
E-collars (the proper name) are an excellent tool for training certain dogs when used properly. Just like many tools, they can be used improperly (usually by “a tool”). When used properly you usually only need to give the dog a quick, minor shock once or twice followed by a vibration or a beep in the beginning and then in the future you only need to use the vibration or beep. Yes, it can be called negative, but not everything in life is positive. For example, if you burn your hand on the stove you learn to be sure it’s cool before you touch it.
For dogs I have no idea. For that freaky girl I know they are great.
@yakkoTDI This freaky girl? Gets you off good, huh?
I feel vibrating collars are much better.
We need a few gross of these to install on EVERYBODY in DC. Every time one of them lies, we nail 'em with the juice.
@un4gvn1 We’re gonna need a LOT of batteries.
@un4gvn1 I live in the DC area, but I work for nonprofits, not the government. Can I get out of this if I bring a note from my mom?
@un4gvn1 A small refinement: Anytime one of them lies, they ALL get the juice.
Mutual reinforcement.

@un4gvn1 A few gross, more like a few thousand.

If you have to ask…

I am strongly in favor of shock collars.

@Rings602

I trained my six-year-old using one, and they are indispensible.
Shock collars are illegal in England, Scotland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Quebec, and some parts of Australia.
Negative reinforcement in general is proven to be a poor training method at best, and abusive at worst.
Using the beeps or vibrations as a marker for positive reinforcement similar to clicker training is probably fine.

Depends who you’re using them on. For humans. Not a problem. But only for humans.
