@werehatrack I actually was fortunate enough to meet Jim Lovell quite awile ago when he made a swing thru Tulsa on his book tour. I also met Buzz Aldrin when I was in scouts–he wasn’t as tall as I thought he might be.
@therealjrn@werehatrack I think they had specific weight/height rules for astronauts. Remember, most of them were test pilots on experimental jets first. Couldn’t be too tall.
@FrozenTrout@therealjrn@werehatrack “replace after 4500 hrs runtime”, I see in the filter description. That’s 187 days, or every 1/2 year. ~$40/yr filter costs for oem filters, or ~$20/yr for aftermarket filters.
@aciarlotta@FrozenTrout@therealjrn@Wireball_ I have 10 reasons to question that 4500 hour filter life expectancy. They are called “cats”. And yes, I understand that Sharper Image is to Vornado as Kenmore was to Whirlpool, or JC Whitney was to just about any name-brand auto part.
How many Varnado containers from China did you guys buy? You must have gotten a good deal, I’ve lost track of how many different fans you’ve had for sale!
@craigcush I suspect they have a Vornado supplier who keeps sending them a free first one and then calling to offer them a deal on this primo bunch that just hit…
@craigcush@Fuzzalini Sadly, you learned about physics and thermodynamics. ALL indoor resistive heaters burn watts (voltage x amps) and generate heat usually measured in BTUs. There is NO way to get more actual heat out of a standard 15A wall outlet. Some have different blower systems (like Vornado and Dyson) that claim to be more effective at distributing the heat in the room so you feel it more.
You either need a heat pump system, or gas heat. That’s the only way.
Did you find something that worked better?
@craigcush@pmarin I did find one. One of those euro style electric heaters filled with oil that look like a radiator. Excellent heating, for not too much electricity.
@craigcush@Fuzzalini@macromeh yup totally agree. In my “younger days” I was all into firewood and stuff. Then this year I got suddenly “older” and had some leg issues, but seem to be better again. A bunch of wood outside from some tree work 2 years ago. Will need a splitter, 8-14” diameter mostly. Now thinking I need a tractor/loader too.
Woodstove fireplace insert in lower floor/basement really does work well though. Best to keep it going, just stoke it up in the AM.
Question to meh-verse. Is it possible to pre-train aka seed the showme LLM with images of the daily product? The idea is that the daily deal would be a special “token” name that people could insert into their showme prompts. This way you could achieve custom product placement, and all that.
@cfg83 Well, the problem is that the one shown in the picture has a square filter, and the one being sold here has a round filter. That would never happen in space. It would be stupid to design a system like that. Apollo 13, anyone?
@mediocrebot Ooops, that actually went pretty well.
/showme skeleton in space suit trying to put LARGE square peg that does not fit into SMALL round hole.
@david_heusdens Just fill up a bunch of balloons in the room to reduce the volume. Maybe HEPA air in balloons for emergency clean air.
/showme One person in room filled with large balloons and Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier.
@mediocrebot That’s actually pretty good. I should have made sure teenager was in room and maybe said 5 air purifiers.
Wait, now that I think of it, that room is teenage messy but not overtly smelly. The odiferous part may not have been synonymized by the LLM.
@Kyeh@mediocrebot OMG, I just realized one of two things. Either the purifier “solved” the problem by consuming the teenager, or the teenager is actually a … SHARPER IMAGE PURIFIER!!!
@cfg83@mediocrebot But you didn’t instruct the bot to show the teenager (who evidently has two right feet!) And a very weird skate board mounted on the wall.
Or maybe he has two left feet and those shoes in the picture are the spares?

Houston? We have a stinky problem.

@therealjrn AI seems to think all astronauts look like Tom Hanks.

/showme Army of potty-mouthed tardigrades fighting one brave Sharper Image by Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier.
@mediocrebot they went condo.
the HOA board is where it got messy.
@mediocrebot Thank you, this is what I wanted. The only thing that would be “better” is a tiny army, but that would be harder to describe.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot That’s a pretty hilarious image.
What’s the replacement filter situation on these?
@FrozenTrout Clickable links within the specs. Right up there ^^
@FrozenTrout @therealjrn Get them while they still exist. Good luck figuring out how many you’ll need before the unit stops working.

@FrozenTrout @therealjrn @werehatrack @Wireball_ It’s a Sharper Image product. You will not get 4500 hours of runtime from this cheaply made garbage. Trust me on this.
@aciarlotta @FrozenTrout @therealjrn @Wireball_ I have 10 reasons to question that 4500 hour filter life expectancy. They are called “cats”. And yes, I understand that Sharper Image is to Vornado as Kenmore was to Whirlpool, or JC Whitney was to just about any name-brand auto part.

@craigcush @werehatrack
Just like a drug dealer!
@craigcush I don’t trust that brand after I bought a space heater from them that used a ridiculous amount of electricity.
@craigcush @Fuzzalini Sadly, you learned about physics and thermodynamics. ALL indoor resistive heaters burn watts (voltage x amps) and generate heat usually measured in BTUs. @craigcush @Fuzzalini @pmarin My wood stove requires neither gas nor electricity and as a bonus, its fuel warms me twice.
@craigcush @pmarin I did find one. One of those euro style electric heaters filled with oil that look like a radiator. Excellent heating, for not too much electricity.

@mediocrebot Well done.

@cfg83 @mediocrebot
Because everyone had the same thought I had…
Meh, that’s NOT the same one they’re offering today.

@Lynnerizer @mediocrebot Yeah, something like :
/showme Person laughing at the daily MEH.
Let’s see what that creates!
@mediocrebot Interesting, you turned the daily MEH into a newspaper. That kind of makes sense.
@mediocrebot Ha! The Daily Meh could be in the style of The Onion :
/showme Newspaper called The Daily Meh that showcases stories about the meh line of daily deals.
/showme Astronauts dismayed to learn that Sharper Image by Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier does NOT scrub CO2 from the air.
@mediocrebot AND it looks like they might be in space bathroom. Better switch to space suit oxygen, pronto!

Chapter 11 asset liquidation: one ‘e’ from ‘JC Penney’
How does one measure air volume in square feet? It needs to be in cubic feet.
I’m guessing (because they make you guess) that they mean 800 CF when they say 100 SF. (10 X 10 room with 8 FT ceiling)
But maybe I’m wrong and they’re just measuring in two dimensions.
@Trinityscrew I looked this up and other air purifiers use square feet too, so I guess it’s “normal” in the industry.
@cfg83 @Trinityscrew It is normal, because we measure the spaces we live in square feet/meters. The 3rd dimension is implied, since we are not 2d.
@suprchunk @Trinityscrew
/showme Flat Sharper Image by Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier with flat people in flat room in flatland.
@mediocrebot Sigh. That’s ok, mediocrebot, I didn’t read Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbott either.
Will this remove mold spores from the air?
Larger room=FEWER air changes, dammit!
@david_heusdens Thanks, dammit!
@david_heusdens Just fill up a bunch of balloons in the room to reduce the volume. Maybe HEPA air in balloons for emergency clean air.
/showme One person in room filled with large balloons and Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier.
Avoid anything made by Sharper Image. Absolute cheap garbage, every time.
@aciarlotta Just noticed Gemini can’t spell (slarpor). Otherwise a perfect image for what I asked it to create.
@aciarlotta …minus the lining up issue…
@aciarlotta I’d say you’re right about some of the things with the Sharper Image name… but these purifiers are literally manufactured by Vornado.
@aciarlotta
/showme garbage dump for regular trash and second garbage dump for Sharper Image products.
@mediocrebot I was envisioning the Simpsons garbage dump, but I didn’t ask for that, and this actually looks pretty good.
My 14 year old son’s room stinks. Hopefully this guy will de-stinkify it.
@rhealy81 (This is also a test of the LLM synonym system, aka odiferous)
/showme industrial strength Sharper Image by Vornado PURIFY 5 Triple Stage HEPA Air Purifier in room of odiferous teenager.
@mediocrebot That’s actually pretty good. I should have made sure teenager was in room and maybe said 5 air purifiers.
Wait, now that I think of it, that room is teenage messy but not overtly smelly. The odiferous part may not have been synonymized by the LLM.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Shoes, dirty clothes and rumpled sheets - it looks pretty odiferous to me.
