Unless I’m missing something, this has no reservoir or misting function apart from when it’s attached to a hose. So it’s not really practical for indoor use. Am I missing something?
It does look like there are options available with a tank and/or less outdoorsy water feed.
Still a cool thing. My solution to outdoor heat is to stay inside where there’s AC. Unfortunately my office (the og, not at home one) gets warm.
I’d love to see y’all offer something like this for indoor use. I have one. It’s small and weak and I don’t use it anymore (instead I’ve got three fans).
I’ve tried a couple of handheld models from the mediocre group and they’re impractical or resplendent in suckitude as well.
The best instance I’ve found aside from a standard swamp cooler or heavy duty outdoor misting system is a handheld spray bottle with a fan attached, but that’s not practical for my application.
@joelmw
I love the idea of a cool mist but what about the water that’s going to ruin my hard wood floors? 🪭
Sounds like outdoors is the correct place for this…
@Lynnerizer So up in Montana, where the air is dry and it doesn’t stay hot for extended periods (i.e, not so much at night or in the proper shade), swamp coolers are more common, and used indoors. The ones I’ve seen have a catch tray and less of a plain mister than some kind of medium that holds the water but allows the air to blow through and cool the air. I don’t recall that they make a mess. We even had one mounted on the roof (opening into the ceiling) with the water medium on the outside of the device’s frame, but the air still drawn through it to cool the house. Again the excess water would accumulate in a catch tray and be pumped back to the top and it didn’t really leak.
I agree that the idea of a garden hosed attached seems a bit much for interior spaces.
And from what I’ve experienced down south, pulling water out of the air is part of what the AC does.
If the Main Internal Battery needs replacing it’ll run as much (or more) than the whole unit. Found this info on Google that says the replacement is about $60 - $80.
@Pufferfishy I was just gonna say this. The misting part will just add more water aka humidity in already humid areas, just like a swamp cooler will do. Especially indoors. Need under 30% humidity for the misting part to work as intended. Won’t normally work even here in Ohio. Also avoid those tiny units you add water to unless you live in an arid climate.
I have two Ryobi bucket top misting fans, these use a Ryobi battery and are designed to sit on top of a 5 gallon bucket (or use a hose) and they have a pump that sucks water out of the bucket. Even in humid conditions (like a bluegrass festival in the NY Catskills in July) they provide some relief and the misting feels better than just the fan. These are at least $100 at Home Depot and they suck down batteries with the pump going but they are very popular. The reason I have 2 is one for the little kids to play with the pump running on high and one for the adults with the pump on low. With the pump on high everything gets wet slowly but surely, but that might have to do with the high humidity already.

@joelmw From the Q&A section from Amazon’s listing I found this info:

Thanks, I didn’t know what a swamp cooler even was until a few years ago when I learned about it here. Lol

Another home run comic!
I am also not a fan, and I am more of a mystery than a mister.
Unless cutting onions.

@cfg83 @mediocrebot @rpstrong
I’d call myself impressionable.
$30? Maybe. $70? Nope.
Misting fans work great in Arizona and Nevada. Florida, not so much.

@mediocrebot Cool. Now I just gotta wait for their 50% off sale days.
@cfg83 near perfect - but she’s WAAAY too cheerful for a thrift store employee - at least here in Florida…

I’ll try one for Missouri summers.
