I can’t speak to the efficacy of this mop vac, but I thoroughly appreciate the category, having hard flooring throughout the house.
Two tips:
You have to use vac mop solution; the standard stuff will degrade some rubber bits.
You pretty much have to clean it after every use, or it will build a powerful stink. So it’s not necessarily worth the effort for small spills that can be handled with a towel.
@trent thanks for the comment. When you say ‘clean’ do you mean run it through the cleaning cycle while it is on the base, or something more manual than that?
@dpease sorry for the too late reply, but, after running through the cleaning cycle on the base, you’ll need to empty and rinse the dirty water tank, even if there’s barely anything in there.
@NoGenocide It lacks the degree of spray volume/velocity for deep penetration and the amount of suction that would be needed to recover that kind of flow, so no, it’s not effective for that task. But neither are a lot of the consumer-level carpet shampoo machines, either. For deep cleaning, you need more oomph than something you can plug into a 15A outlet can really provide.
FWIW, we own one that my wife purchased. As mentioned above I wouldnt use it for small spills. But, it does work well when you want to do regular complete cleaning of your floors. We have vinyl laminate and it cleans it well.
Update 4/9/24 Just talked to Shark warranty about my 6 month old Hydrovac that has been used 4 times. They do not pay for labor and shipping. They will provide me with a new motor and they tell me I must install it my self! The lady told me it’s easy, you take apart the whole machine and replace the motor! They tried charging me for the shipping a a unit with a three year warranty.
If the self clean feature won’t work then the tray is missing a magnet, afix a magnet in the round hole on the bottom of the tray and it will work, there is a hall effect sensor that expects a magnet there to know that it’s a tray.
Happy with cleaning efficiency on hardwood & tile. Meh on its ability to clean area rugs. Cleaning gook out of solids bin awkward. Overall really happy with the mop.

I prefer sharks with laser beams.
@hchavers
@hchavers Ah, a person of culture, I see.
It repeats claims of effectiveness on area rugs, but what about actual carpets? Can this thing be used to do seasonal carpet deep cleaning?
