and am i allowed to punch someone for using one? because, seriously, this just reeks of douchebaggery. (i'm pretty sure this upsets me more than it should)
Is that what the kids are calling them now?
@bludgeon don't worry mom, I'm just going up to my room to show Suzie my selfie stick.
@bludgeon or maybe drugs... the boys were caught in the men's room at school passing around a selfie stick.
@medz Selfie stick sounds more like it's for when Suzie isn't around.
@hallmike or perhaps something for Suzie made by Hitachi
@hallmike All the openings in this case are precisely cut for buttons and connectors to get full access to all functions. Plus, it was molded perfectly fit to the shape of the device. It is easy to install and no tool required. @Ignorant I read conflicting information about what happened here but one of them said he was actually saving that dude from being hit by a metal part of the train.
@JonT @ignorant why does his jaw start to move before the foot hits him?
@Pamtha It does look like that, but a frame by frame set me straight. http://gif-explode.com/?explode=http://www.metro.us/news/man-gets-kicked-in-head-while-trying-to-take-selfie-next-to-speeding-train/tmWndq---7dux5C9WJhzPI/selfie-kick-train-slow-motion2.gif
@JonT At the other end is the handle grip. When a user wants to click a photo, he simply has to extend the selfie rod to the desired length and pose by himself or with a group of people. If you want to buy it please visit. .............................................................................................................................................. @JonT I had to watch the video, he had a follow up and explain there was no metal bar but the train caught him by surprised and was nearl;y hit.
@Pamtha @Ignorant @JonT @Willijs3 @StrangerDanger I think as much as anything this serves as a good reminder to be very careful around train tracks. Here's another good video (don't worry, no one dies in this):
Yikes. Definitely more than it should, but I'm kinda with ya on that one.
A thought creeps in about cleavage possibilities though...
@mehjohnson Bark at the Park! I love those days!
Well, it does eliminate the need to ask another human to take a picture for your group.
@The_Baron thank you for the tutorial.
I often cross the more touristy parts of Boston, which are everywhere, during my lunch. I am seeing more and more people with these dumb things. So instead of, "Check out this picture I took of the Old State House" it is "CHECK ME OUT in front of Old State House. LOOK AT ME THOUGH".
I can't get terribly worked up over this because it does solve a problem some people actually have- how do you get a good group shot when there's nowhere to rest the camera so you can use the timer?
@feyemahi looks like we got ourselves another spam account here.
@JonT
It's just a variation on ye olde classic camera accessory for outdoor types and wizards, the monopod. It's certainly not as weird as the iPood.
A lot of wizards ARE outdoor types, quite a bit of crossover there
@matthew Aren't they called druids?
Selfie Stick? I much prefer the term "Wand of Narcissus"...
More proof that adding the word "[E]xtreme" to anything makes it instantly great.
@Chops tomorrow's deal: JBL eXtreme Speaker Docks
@Kleineleh Speaker docks rock. I have proof.
@feyemahi @JonT Is this spam? It smells a little spammy to me. Seeing as I said nothing about glass screen protectors.
I made a Facebook post about these a few weeks ago basically saying they are the dumbest thing ever. I got a whole mess of replies from people who use them and think they are great.
I even saw a couple on the NYE countdown last night.
www.theverge.com/tldr/2014/12/31/7470713/selfie-stick-haters-hate
They are so silly. Which means we'll see them here on Meh for a dollar, free to VMPS in the future
My sister bought me one for Christmas, however, it didn't have a bluetooth shutter button. So you have to set the timer every time you take a picture like some sort of heathen. Seems like something just meh enough to be sold here...
I saw one for the first time during my trip to Disney World in October. What a great and simple tool to fit your whole group in one shot without bothering a stranger or using a photopass photographer. I later saw someone using one with a Gopro on Thunder Mountain. Again, what a great way to document your vacation. That was probably some cool footage.
I have no hate for the idea. With a good camera and a photographer's eye, you could get some really cool shots of yourself and your party. And the side benefit of having the camera further from your body is you capture more of the background.
@Mac454 Or you could just turn the camera around and capture all of the background.
@rockblossom I can do a Google image search if I want a picture of a famous landmark or setting, and probably find an image of much higher quality done by a professional with a $3000 camera. The point of pictures with the stick is to capture yourself there as well.
@Mac454 @rockblossom I do them to PROVE I was somewhere fabulous - like when I was in Dubai for a layover and rode a taxi to the Burj Khalifa to have my pic taken outside, cause I didn't have time to go to the top. Then I lost my phone in the cab. But hey - the Facebook proof lives on!
I almost bought one for my niece as a joke but I didn't want to encourage her. She's 14 and last time I was over she seriously asked me my favorite between like 8 selfie pics so she could post one more than half she was making the "duck face" and they all looked similar.
Definition of a selfie, per google:
a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
"occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself everyday isn't necessary"
If a selfie is a photo of one, why does one need a stick to take a photo?????
@mikibell I would think more background. Say in front of a landmark?
The most gratuitous usage of a "selfie-stick" in recent history:
@Chops Unfortunately I have to work for a living. But yeah, I'm jelly.
@Chops Sorry for the late reply, but the 360 degree turns are pretty cool! Either he's insanely stable, or his camera has very good image stabilization!
my brother used one of these during this recent trip to Machu Picchu. this is just my reminder to beat him up next time i see him. yes, meh. i'm using your forum to remind me to do things.
Everyone knows Minolta invented the selfie stick... in the 80's.

New signs notify arriving guests of Disneyland's new selfie stick ban, which went into effect 30 Jun 2015
I love Shark Tank. I am a junkie. Here is the Canadian version (watch this too. Plus, this is where Mr. Wonderful got his start) - Dragons Den where Quik Pod took off. Plus an update.
Original Pitch.
2015 Update.
I should start looking for the best selfie stick out there.
@thumperchick @thomasf @woodhouse
Anyone else who is paying attention. Please see above for link needing to be removed. Too bad there’s not a “tattle” button (one of the very few things I miss from Wooterville).
@Shrdlu Yep. It makes job as a vol.mod at Woot much much much easier. Perhaps @shawn can put such a feature in for the future.
@Shrdlu I’d love a tattle button… but not sure it’s in the cards any time soon. Also, anyone get a gander at the username…
@Thumperchick I noticed, hence an excuse to tag @shawn earlier.

@Thumperchick I saw the user name immediately. That’s what made me actually pay attention to the link that you removed, and thank you. People are nuts, you know?
