Sales Map: Where it's going or where you are?
5I happen to be out of state right now, and bought tonight's offering. I happened to check the map and noticed that my parish isn't lit up, but the county where I think I am is. So does the map actually light up for where the buyer is, or did I just get confused by a coincidence?

There have to be at least 2 sales per county or state for it to light up.
@KDemo I thought states needed two but counties only need one. @shawn? Back in the beginning I'm sure I was the only person in my county buying stuff at 9:15 (in California) and the county would light up with my purchase.
@KDemo That sucks for Vermont... But a the same token... That means there are more Vermonters on here... Where are my fellow Vermonters at????
I would not be surprised if it lights up on the map based on your IP address, and shipping information is probably not touched at all except for when it comes time to ship stuff.
@axleman1011 The only problem I have with that is Korea. We've always assumed that California is heavily represented not only because of purchasers but also because of shipping forwarders. Which would mean that the shipping address factors into the map display.
@djslack Or it could be the Billing zip code... They only take US credit cards right?
@axleman1011 I suspect it is shipping address, likely zip code (although that might not be enough - do zip codes ever span two counties?) Very easy to pull it and pass to the map subroutine since they're creating the sales order record at the time you order anyway.
@sohmageek I'm with redoak... I know it's not billing zip code because i bill to one parish and ship to another. Usually I'm in the one i ship to and that's the one that lights up.
@djslack - Perhaps you're more likely to get an official answer on a weekday. Maybe ping a staffer on Monday?
@KDemo I'm quite satisfied with the theories and conjecture from our weekend crew so far. It's more a curiosity thing than a real concern anyway. But I'm sure during the workweek someone that knows the real story may pop in and spoil the magic for us :)
@djslack Looking for truth is, I agree, where the magic is. Exploring theories and conjectures is the finest magic. Unfortunately that magic has a shelf life or useful life and spoils on its own. Now when I see under Glen while he's singing Mad Ape Den, that's a Greater Magic and one I don't think I'll ever understand. And even now, still, I see Glen.
Here's hoping the weekend crew finds more rocks to turn over. Living in a county with lots of zip codes, I don't think I can help in the discovery. I'd guess addresses are easier to parse than ISP's. And is anybody out there following this from North Dakota?
Turns out I do want the magic spoiled. @shawn? Is the map based on shipping address, geolocated ip, or throwing darts? :)
@RedOak In my hometown the zip code, 24590, delivers to three different counties. So, I wouldn't think it would only go by the zip code unless they do it in the county where the post office actually sits.
@djslack shipping address
Damnit, I was just posting that it was fun watching everyone try to figure it out together without getting an official answer.
Foiled by @shawn once again.
@JonT So Meh doesn't coordinate its confusion? It's all spontaneous?
@shawn Thanks!
@JonT it was fun! I tried to experimentally prove my theories by buying stuff every day this week so far. I didn't get conclusive data. That whole having to have two purchasers thing made it uncertain.
@djslack You could've made a second account then.
@dashcloud meh, this is meh. It wasn't that serious of science.
Besides, the one thing that warranted purchasing more sold out probably before I could have made a second.
@djslack "noticed that my parish isn't lit up"
Parish ?? where are you ? Guessing must be Louisiana or England. No parishes in the NE or West coast or ?? Unless, of course, you are a priest.
@ceagee Louisiana! But not the part with the gators and hurricanes and not the part with the duck calls (though my girlfriend is from there). I'm from where the vampire bar is, or from where "very far away" is to Ray the lightning bug if you're more the Disney type.
