@mediocrebot The Amazons has the refurbished version for around $350: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002PI2GHK/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all I know it's only one or two sellers, but they seem to have good feedback. In any case, it seems more closely related then the "new" prices that are used to compare. Ebay only had one sale in the last few months and it was for $199 (ish) with free shipping.
@v nice work. fyi we use the primary Amazon link as baseline reference for reviews and price - kind of a "best starting place" for good work like yours to be done.
I wish the amazon reviews didn't say this machine was made out of garbage and breaks after 60 days. I wonder what the refurbished machine is made of. Compost?
@quitterjoe while I like the joke, we've been playing with one of these, and overall the quality it pretty good. it's plasticy, which means you need to take good care of it, but when you do, it makes a great cup of coffee every time.
@quitterjoe after using one and reading the reviews, I really get the idea that people didn't take the time to learn how to use the machine, or they left it on all the time. both would cause issues.
@Thumperchick ok thats funny - Hard for me to compare what Starbucks produces to actual Espresso drinks - I was an espresso jerk (barista) at the base of the Hyatt Regency in SF long before Starbucks existed - the old Itallian tourists would flock to my shop on workd of mouth at the quality and authenticity of our espresso - nothing compared to the milkshakes starbucks pumps out...
I just can't even justify the purchase of an espresso machine. If I could, I'd buy it. But there's just no room, and not enough desire for espresso for me.
Why'd you have to offer a superautomatic Meh? If you guys were selling a high-end coffee grinder, I would buy it in a heartbeat. If you guys were selling a high-end automatic esspresso machine, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I just don't like the superautos that combine both.
I bought the Saeco Vienna Plus super automatic for 250 clams on THAT OTHER SITE about two years ago, also refurbished by Seattle Coffee Gear. It's totally plastic and won't impress anyone with its somewhat bulbous appearance, but it makes great coffee and keeps going like a champ. I'm guessing that this baby uses the same one-piece plastic brewgroup. Just don't use dark, oily beans (like *bux) - they'll clog the grinder.
@khunjeff Same here! Except it was more like 3 years. It is important to keep it clean, but it keeps going and going and going, making great espresso and Americanos for us. This deal is far from "meh". If I needed another machine, i'd be all over it.
@Remember_dnL This is SO much better than a Keurig! You get to use the coffee you want. K-cups are overpriced and put a lot of plastic into the landfill. Bottom line, this is more cost effective, and it makes better coffee.
@Remember_dnL I'd definitely recommend getting this over a Keurig as well. This machine has what's called a "bypass doser" so you can use pre-ground coffee (flavored or not), although you want to use whole bean if possible. Once you get the hang of how to use its features, it's just as fast as a Keurig and only costs 15-30 cents per shot depending on dosage and how fancy your beans are.
@Remember_dnL I'm just going to toss in that you can reuse the R-pods in the Keurig Rivo, by using the foil seals. This allows you to use whatever coffee you want. The espresso from the Rivo is pretty damn nice. However; if I had to pay for my machine? I probably wouldn't go with the Keurig.
@editorkid Some of the machines do not have reusable pods out yet. The Rivo is one of those. There is a company that makes foil seals that allows you to reuse the R pods over and over again, though.
@editorkid Yes, you can buy a reusable k-cup for your Keurig. The ones I've seen use cute little itty bitty filters that need to be replaced. Some might have a permanent filter, but that's still an annoyance - you get to clean the little cup and refill it every time. With a superautomatic you don't have these annoying little chores. We clean the main gear about once a week, it takes a few minutes. Yeah, you CAN use any coffee in a Keurig. It's just a pain in the ass.
@LordKalvan Oh come on. This is just disingenuous. Doing the dishes is an "annoying little chore" at your house? Would you tell people not to use pour-over filters because they have to be cleaned and refilled every single time? Refillable K-cups are so inexpensive that I've bought a bunch, which means I can have a few cups and clean them all at once, which makes life pretty easy. And I have a pretty decent burr grinder and buy my beans still warm from the nationally regarded roaster, Metropolis, a few blocks away. SMH
@editorkid I recently saw refillable k-cups on clearance at our local grocery store for $5,95 with a handful of filters. Not all that inexpensive. As top doing dishes, the dishwasher handles it more often than not. Cleaning k-cups would be an annoying chore because it is totally unnecessary. Washing dishes is not unnecessary. As the next post comments, "Easier than my Keurig."
Easier than my Keurig. Just poor beans in the top, water in the side and select your setting. It does everything else, even cleans it self. Keurigs don't do that.
I've been using these Saeco Talea machines at home (I'm on my second one) for about 5 or 6 years. Two double shot cappuccinos every day, deep clean the machine one time a week (about 3 minutes work), and only one significant problem after about 2 years. A triple vente cappuccino at Starbucks costs about $5, Sumatran coffee beans cost $12 / lb. The math works great (I figure about $30/week savings), and I'm convinced that the home made stuff is every bit as good as what the baristas make.
I'm going to buy one of these $265 (including tax and shipping) jewels for my office.
For some reason, it was covered in coffee grounds. A note was included that explains that this is normal, but literally every piece has a dusting on it, including the water tub. Odd. No complaints otherwise.
Mine arrived about a month ago. It works well, but, each time it brews, it drops a small soggy ball of grounds in the water side of the "dregdrawer" (not in the grounds collection side). The espresso tastes just fine, but, apparently, something's not working the way it's supposed to!

Sell the toilet bowl coffee mug?
@pmulry you wouldn't want it. it makes everything taste like crap.
@ChadP that is one way to make expresso taste better
ahh man, too bad i have my espresso machine already!
i want one so bad
Sarah McLaughlin?
Come on, ad copy guy.
@peas Maybe they know another Sarah. Or were making fun with the "laugh" part in it. I actually like Sarah McLachlan.
I wish the amazon reviews didn't say this machine was made out of garbage and breaks after 60 days. I wonder what the refurbished machine is made of. Compost?

@quitterjoe I use that one at work quite a bit. You have total control over the amount and strength. I think it has "kicked by mule" setting.
I got this the last time it was offered. Still enjoying my daily cup of Joe! Seller has great customer service.
Does this make better coffee than fivebucks? Err, Starbucks?
@jjohns71 Starbucks doenst make coffee silly
@jmhsrv Actually, most of the product description was about how Starbucks makes coffee silly.
@Doodpants Meh - they make froofy sugar drinks with watered down espresso flavors - not coffee
@jmhsrv I prefer to think of it as the place that makes caffeinated milkshakes.
Damn, I don't have the money right now...
I have had one for 6 months... works great - use it multiple times a day - I paid $299 for it so this is a better than meh deal!
I just can't even justify the purchase of an espresso machine. If I could, I'd buy it. But there's just no room, and not enough desire for espresso for me.
@eblade Same here. For straight coffee we have a Technivorm which is enormously delicious (and kind of expensive) but we use it daily.
@patti i just have a cheap Mr. Coffee branded Keurig brewer, and I'm cool with that.

meh Grande!
bleh
If it were a Keurig I would buy it in a heartbeat. My Keurig is leaking hardcore and need a new one.

@LordKalvan You can use your own coffee in any Keurig you want. I'd love to know why the argument that you can't persists...
@Remember_dnL Well, everything is 20% off at Bed Bath & Beyond with their coupons.
@editorkid Some of the machines do not have reusable pods out yet. The Rivo is one of those. There is a company that makes foil seals that allows you to reuse the R pods over and over again, though.

@kylewood You'd get better results if you didn't use poor beans.
Possibly the most expensive meh to date
indeed. today we are catering to the .16% or thereabouts.
@snapster What is this a test to see how many idle rich people you have on the site? LOL 37 sold so far… hmmm.
@ranneyd Almost. The iPad from a few weeks ago was over $500.
@pulphero @ranneyd And I think they sold more...

I have a double latmeh
http://youtu.be/08NkaqoOELg
I'll take a twist of lemon with mine
@icehole I expected this clip "Cafe latte, twist of lemon, sweet n low..."
I'm shocked anyone is buying this crap ... the question should not be "Who's buying this crap?" but "Why the hell is anyone buying this crap?"
Damn, sold out
Do you know about what my delivery date will be?
@fastermatt nope, but you can check your My Orders page and if you're good the tracking number will get posted there. ;)
@hollboll I'm with @fastermatt. I talked with both my mom AND grandmother and both agreed that I've been good. Yet, I see no tracking number.
@youdonotexist sorry your mom is a liar :(
Who needs tracking numbers when the item arrives unexpectedly at your doorstep this morning.
@youdonotexist nice. you must have been very good. we should look into that (the tracking # behavior, not yours)
Note: Apparently tracking numbers are not updated but units are on the road and being delivered. We're researching what happened.
@snapster it was @studerc
@katylava Shit, my bad. I hope you can accept my sincere apologies @snapster!
Arrived today, and it's works well. Very nice.
For some reason, it was covered in coffee grounds. A note was included that explains that this is normal, but literally every piece has a dusting on it, including the water tub. Odd. No complaints otherwise.
@domcolosi we lightly dust all of the things we sell with coffee grounds before shipping, so this is totally normal.
