@mikey At first I didn’t realize it was the stairs and thought it took out a section of rail. Is that a mangled piece of furniture?
Glad it didn’t hit the house.
@callow That’s a hammock stand and what it’s supposed to look like. No damage to it as far as I can see, luckily.
The top branches definitely at least grazed the siding of the house. That picture was taken from inside by the sliding glass door so it was real close. I haven’t been outside yet to see all the damage. I’m still waiting for a bit more sunlight.
@Kidsandliz There are some scratches on the siding but if it’d fallen a foot and a half to the right, it’d have busted right through the sliding glass door. A foot and a half to the left and it’d have scratched up the kitchen window. It was as close to a perfect landing as we could have hoped, to be honest. The railing seems to be the only damage (and maybe the stairs once they start hauling the tree away).

That’s for sure! We had several trees cut down last month, super expensive! Less than a week later we heard a huge bang, it was a large branch from the neighbors tree knocking at our door! Thank goodness there was no damage.
@LJeAYsy4LoqxEC Whoa, my chainsaw cost less than $1K/2! (Yes, I know that tree maintenance is significantly more complicated in a residential neighborhood. )
With the recent dry summers, we have had quite a few windfalls (and potential windfalls) to clean up on our rural acreage. My woodshed is overflowing - I have been giving the excess to neighbors and friends.
Yikes. Hopefully that’s not a precursor for the year.
During last year’s derecho, I thought I got off easy. Then I discovered that a nice hefty walnut limb had dropped/flown 70-80 feet…onto my 1 year old gazebo.
You know how spiders look when they’ve died horribly? Yeah.
Then I drove around town and discovered that really, I had still gotten off easy.
Just noticed in the picture that it took out one of the handrails on the stairs. 'Tis the season!

Pre-shredded firewood!
@show_the_maw This house doesn’t have a fireplace!! We didn’t realize it until after we’d moved in.
That looks like a seriously close call!

@Kidsandliz @mikey YIKES.
Wow! I’m glad it wasn’t worse !
I bet you didn’t get much more sleep after that happened.
@Kyeh I slept right through it. Didn’t even know until the morning when I saw my wife’s text.
One of my big fears with some of the trees near my house. Expensive to remove those suckers. Even just a few limbs cost half a grand.
@LJeAYsy4LoqxEC Hopefully this won’t hit my landlord in the pocketbook too hard.

Scary! We’re in Longmont, and the wind tore the door off of our sheep shed. Poor hubby had to fix it in the dark stormy evening.
@Pony Well howdy from Thornton, neighbor!

Holy crap . Very glad your family is safe!
Thank goodness it wasn’t worse, you guys were lucky!
For values of “We weren’t having a hurricane”, yeah, that’s pretty rude.
I had the top half of an oak come through the roof during a hurricane, but that’s kinda what happens during those.
Not my fault.
@njfan Bzzt! Wrong.
