Roku and HBO find common ground for HBO Max app
5Yesterday Roku and HBO finally reached an agreement to green light an HBO Max app on Roku streamers.
This afternoon when I turned on my TV the current HBO Now app was in the process of updating. Within a couple minutes I had full access to HBO Max from my Roku. Unfortunately my HBO Now watch list was not pulled forward, but minor inconvenience compared to the nonsense I have been doing when I wanted something from HBO Max which wasn’t available in the regular HBO app.

I hope it comes to lg TVs soon. But that’s extra impetus to hook up my Roku on my shop TV this weekend.
Wait, I’m supposed to get stuff done in the shop. Dammit.
@djslack
hooking up your Roku counts as “stuff that got done”… Go for it!
Hey talk to me about hbo max. I am considering a streaming service for my folks for Christmas. Do you find a lot to watch on it?
Also thoughts on espn+
Already have disney+
@CaptAmehrican I know with Disney+ you can pay extra to get both espn and Hulu (with commericials).
I just got my HBOMax switched over on our smart tv this weekend and no it’s also on the Roku. Cool!
@CaptAmehrican hbo max has everything hbo, plus some tv shows, plus the entire 2021 slate of warner brothers film releases day and date with theaters, no $30 premium free like disney+. They’re making a big splash. Plus if you’re an at&t customer, you already have it for free.
@CaptAmehrican I’m a fan of HBO Max. Right now they’re offering 6 months for $70 (prepaid). That comes to $11.66/mo.
They have a ton of programming, 100% commercial-free. All of the HBO streaming library including the HBO originals and movies, plus a growing list of HBO Max original series and movies, and tons of stuff from the Warner library. Modern movies and a sizable offering of classic films as well. Lots of exclusive series you can’t get anywhere else like the complete Friends series, etc. all available for streaming or download for offline viewing.
And don’t forget the “same day premiere” films which will be coming in the next several months beginning with Wonder Women 1984 on Dec. 25. Watch it on HBO Max the same day it hits the theaters. Currently 17 Warner Studios feature films are slated for same day premiere on HBO and in theaters.
They do not currently have a “viewing party” feature like a few other streaming services are doing now.
$70 for 6 months doesn’t sound like much of a deal. But I am happy that this is finally over, I have a Roku TV and I would like the choice.
@Fuzzalini Roughly 23% discount.
