@caffeine_dude It says selective room cleaning is a feature. It’s also voice controlled, so if you see it going where you don’t want it to, just holler ‘not there, over there’, I presume.
@Gypsigirl213 I honestly don’t want to see the vacuum run, it’s pretty awesome coming home to a freshly vacuumed house. I am looking for a vacuum that doesn’t spend a lots of time vacuuming under my kitchen table and chairs. I would add the table to the no go location.
@caffeine_dude No it can not do exactly what you want it to do. The mop has its limitations. It is a great vacuum and I have the previous version the s5 and its great. I just have it mop when I’m around because it needs to be baby sit while doing it. Normally I just have it vacuum and just do a wet mop after it moves out of the first room and follow it around
I have a (maybe somewhat irrational) phobia that makes me imagine that the underneath of these things looks like that of a horseshoe crab, and horseshoe crabs absolutely TERRIFY me, so this is a very hard pass from me, because I’d never be able to operate/clean it.
OMG, Meh, this is waaayyyyyy beyond an impulse buy, and still too useless for an investment in home cleaning. This is a huge miss, by a mile, I think! I feel like you folks are trying to home in on a/your real current market, by aiming way too far inside and outside the bounds of what we (your customers) actually want to see - either true crap at really cheap prices, or medium good items at really good prices… I don’t think too many of us want to risk buying super-quality items, at super-high prices, from Meh at this point. JMO, of course. Seems like things have changed with you guys, lately, and I can’t figure out what’s going on…
@cbl_wv They do this sometimes, it’s not entirely unprecedented. They’ve sold those expensive Atmos (sp?) things and I’ve seen some pricey (to me) SLR cameras…
@cbl_wv super quality items at unmatched discount prices doesn’t fall into any of the buckets you’ve set out.
Some of us like deals but also like to get the good shit where it matters.
Some of us also got neato botvacs in fukus so don’t need to get this, but an advanced model vacuum robot for about the price of a decent one will hit the target for some people.
Those people are the ones who have been thinking about buying something like this but hadn’t bit yet, knew they were going to spend about this much anyway, and like the features of this one more than what their five hundred bucks was gonna get them elsewhere. That number will not be zero people.
@cbl_wv I have the S5 and if I didn’t have it I would totally buy the S6.
I used to think a robot vacuum is a luxury for spoiled people but my S5 works really well, 10sqFt under 1 minute (the S6 is much more efficient). I run it everyday before leaving for work and it picks up so much. It goes under my bed and couch and it’s very easy to maintain.
It might not be an impulse buy for everyone, but it’s a great deal for someone in the market for one.
Roborock makes one of the best robot vacuums and replacement parts are very cheap.
I’ve had this exact vacuum for over a year. I absolutely love it. I returned a Neato botvac and a Roomba ($+500) vaccuums for this. I loved the functionality of the Neato and that’s why I love this vacuum. It laser maps and merges Roomba design with Neato mapping. I absolutely did not download the app as the servers are based in China.
@caffeine_dude I let the vacuum map out the bottom floor and close doors as needed if I don’t want it going. This works for my home, and it’s annoying to set off the vacuum manually each day but the trade off is worth it. Two dogs and this thing works it’s robot butt off.
@username I was an early adopter of original Neato botvac in 2012. I absolutely loved it and sent it into a small shop for repairs when it needed it. After it died I was dead set on getting another neato. The D7 is $679. I had an issue with the brush on mine and the customer support was absolutely horrendous. Thankfully Amazon accepted my return after what was longer than it should have been. That’s why I moved away from that to this.
I bought NEATO BOTVAC 65 from meh 4 years ago, but batteries fail now, and amazon replacements also suck. has anyone replaced these vac batteries with rechargeable USB packs or 18650 batteries??
Only 23% off the Amazon price on a big-ticket item like this doesn’t seem like much of a deal. Plus $5 shipping. Plus I can get 5% off at Amazon at the moment in the form of credit card points, so that’s down to worse than 18% off what I’d be paying (I guess 20% really since I could get 2% cash back on a credit card here too).
The linked warranty is a bit dubious too, in that it explicitly says this won’t be covered.
“…for one (1) year from the product purchase date. This Limited Warranty applies only to new products purchased at US Amazon’s official stores (Roborock Technology Co. Ltd Store)” (emphasis added)
(And even within the Amazon constraint it’s still a pretty terrible warranty that excludes basically everything.)
@ravenblack except 23% off of a big ticket item in this case is a hundred and fifty bucks. That’s nothing to sneeze at. It might not be a big discount if it were refurbished or discontinued, but for new product that ain’t too bad.
@djslack Nah, that’s not really an “except”. Nobody would be impressed by $500 off a million dollar house. The absolute discount is less important than the percentage (though sure, it does scale up a bit - 2% off a million dollar house is definitely worth pushing for, while 2% off a $500 thing is probably not worth adding any effort).
At this sort of scale though, with the slower shipping and more dubious support you’d expect from Meh vs Amazon, 20% is pretty unimpressive. I mean if you were going to buy the thing anyway sure, the saving is better than not having the saving, but I expect a better discount than this from Meh.
(Though that said, I’ve actually experienced better support from Meh than I have from Amazon, so credit where it’s due, if I actually wanted the thing I’d probably buy it from Meh at full price rather than Amazon.)
@Telanis Meh discounts are usually upwards of 60%. Or Steam sales, typically 50-90%. Grocery Outlet, mostly more than 40%.
20% is like a regular day, regular price, “we put a red tag on it saying it’s 20% off to persuade you to buy it, but we’re still making a solid profit after having paid the full retailer-price” discount. That’s not Meh’s usual business model, they’re supposed to be paying less than regular retailer-inventory price, and charging correspondingly less.
If you check out the video, you see the guy hand grinding coffee. It will take him longer to grind that coffee than it would to get out a normal vacuum and do the job himself. With all the money he saves not buying this bot vac he can get a decent electric burr coffee grinder and still have money leftover!
@fastharrydotcom That is a very valid point. I have a Roomba that has been used daily for almost 6 years. It has needed several replacement rollers which is easy. However, now it needs replacement wheels. They are $129 each flipping wheel. And yes, I’ve tried fixing them with silicon wrist bands. Works okay but…
@aarond12@fastharrydotcom Roborock is mainly sold on amazon and offers a lot of parts for the vacuums at pretty reasonable prices… they even made it so their vacuums all take the same roller… over different generations. They keep updating the design and improving and making sure it fits their old vacuums as well. I have the older version of this one the s5 and I’m pretty happy with the vacuum part of it overall. Mopping is alright and nothing special. Their s4 vacuum is pretty much the same thing as this but a revised drive system and no mop
@riceatusc I’d rather buy a used Moog Sirin, or a Behringer Model D + Neutron. Or a Korg Minilogue if I didn’t already have one. Those are some gooood synthesizers.
If Meh had a deal on a synthesizer like these I’d freak out and go into debt just to buy one.
I’ll just give you the benefit of the doubt & assume the writer of today’s ad copy wrote it on his phone/tablet & is a victim of auto-correct. To paraphrase a line from Princess Bride: I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
@ekw@mbimeh@dam091 Most of the write-ups have something like that in them, if not all of them maybe? I think they put them in there for the twitchy folks.
@dseanadams@mbimeh@therealjrn lazy editing is such a pet peeve of mine in the digital age. Reading an article from a supposedly reputable source (or even meh) and finding an obvious typo tells me that either nobody took the time to proofread something that was going to be the showcase of your entire organization for a little while, or you need to fire whoever is supposed to be doing it.
@ekw I believe it’s an attachment. I did some study of this brand before buying one today. I’ve also heard that wet wiping feature is more of a silly addition than a useful feature.
@blaineg . You will get a much better price this Thanksgiving Day. So many Roborock S6 deals will soon be available. Just check out the deals page and bookmark and be the first so that you won’t miss the deal price.
So I bought a new mattress and a nice ribeye steak for dinner had beers and wings at the pub with son and his wife and still have $150 left vs buying this thing. Winning!

This sucks.
Sorry, I had to.
@jsh139 Dam, someone beat me…
@IWUJackson
@jsh139 Well, SOMEBODY had to.
Roborock is an apt description of what happens to this device after a few uses.
@norman8 is that like Cop Rock but with robots? I think i know the theme song.
/youtube apollo 440 can’t stop the rock
Not exactly an impulse buy there. That’s about my annual Meh budget right there.
@laurelnev You said it. Would need more than 24 hours to ponder this deal
Whoa, that’s over my budget.
Hmm… on the list of things I would spend $500 on, checking… complete.
Right, Meh could offer a 1 pound brick of gold, and I’d still say no, because it was probably filled with lead or tungsten.
Does it have no go location via the app?
Can it mop the kitchen then vacuum the rest of the house?
@caffeine_dude It says selective room cleaning is a feature. It’s also voice controlled, so if you see it going where you don’t want it to, just holler ‘not there, over there’, I presume.
@Gypsigirl213 I honestly don’t want to see the vacuum run, it’s pretty awesome coming home to a freshly vacuumed house. I am looking for a vacuum that doesn’t spend a lots of time vacuuming under my kitchen table and chairs. I would add the table to the no go location.
POPSOCKETS! ROAD ROCKETS! SONNY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@caffeine_dude No it can not do exactly what you want it to do. The mop has its limitations. It is a great vacuum and I have the previous version the s5 and its great. fucking LASERS? fucking LASERS?
FUCKING LASERS!!1!
/BUY --QUANTITY 3 fuckers!
@therealjrn Sorry, this deal contains 2 unique items and I’m not sure which one you want. You can review how to pick one, or just try ordering from the checkout page.
I CAN’T PICK JUST ONE @mediocrebot!!!
@therealjrn what is you got 3 fuckings instead with your purchase?
@robson Not bad for $499 huh?
@robson is this jeopardy?
/giphy this is jeopardy
@therealjrn I KNOW, RIGHT?
/giphy monogatari roomba
@Fej not sure if that was the gif you wanted or the one where it bumps Hanekawa on the head repeatedly while she sleeps, but good effort XD
I have a (maybe somewhat irrational) phobia that makes me imagine that the underneath of these things looks like that of a horseshoe crab, and horseshoe crabs absolutely TERRIFY me, so this is a very hard pass from me, because I’d never be able to operate/clean it.
@ShotgunX does a horseshoe crab have wheels and brushes underneath it?
I’d /image it except i don’t want to freak you out.
@ShotgunX i googled on my own. That shit’s freaky. So far i don’t know of any robot vacuums designed by H. R. Giger so i believe you’re in the clear.
@ShotgunX That’s brilliant! A robot vac shaped like a horseshoe crab! A snail would be fun too.
If it emptied its own collection bin, I’d be in.
@Seeds Sounds like your best bet may be to become homeless. Eliminate all that pesky upkeep!
@Seeds that sounds dangerously close to a perpetual motion machine.
Hmm, 17 minutes in and no
suckerstakers yet.@heartny And the first buyer is in Texas! In for 1 black one at $540!
Roborock…because the ideal brand image for a household robot is… a stationary lump of minerals.
@awk I really hope you get quoted.

@ravenblack no, but I’d be plenty impressed by $230,000 off a million dollar house.
This isn’t an unbelievable deal, but it’s a deal for the right person. I think you and I just see it differently, and you know what, that’s OK.
/giphy agree to disagree
@djslack @ravenblack I was thinking about asking for one for Christmas. But it’s October.
@ravenblack It’s crazy to me that you live in a world where a 23% discount is “small”, even if I agree that this is way too expensive for a Meh item.
The amount of promo photos of the vacuum sneaking up on people sleeping is alarming
@Dave, @Snapster?
@RedOak @Dave’s not there, man.

@RedOak @Mediocrebot is probably buying a mail order bride.

I WANT ONE! Maybe even 2.
So it vacuums and mops. But I still have to clean it?
Wow, 4 sold? These are selling like hot cakes.
@ElieC I don’t think you quite understand what that phrase means…lol…j/k
@therealjrn I’m working my satirical wit angle.
/giphy seems expensive
There are probably a lot of us hoping for some “damaged” ones to end up in the next IRK.
I have been in the vac business 20 years…The issue is not if this works. The issue is who fixes it if it doesn’t…
Works okay but…
I’m in for one.

“please have some prospective.”
“prospective”
I’ll just give you the benefit of the doubt & assume the writer of today’s ad copy wrote it on his phone/tablet & is a victim of auto-correct. To paraphrase a line from Princess Bride: I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
@mbimeh Meh’s copy-writer @dseanadams actually went to school to be writer.
@mbimeh yeah, I came here to say “did you mean ‘perspective’ ?”
@mbimeh /giphy thank you
@ekw @mbimeh @dam091 Most of the write-ups have something like that in them, if not all of them maybe? I think they put them in there for the twitchy folks.

But that’s just my prospective.
@dam091 @dseanadams @mbimeh Sure, I get it.
I wonder, if you have to work at being mediocre, does that mean you’re overachieving or underachieving?
@dseanadams @mbimeh @therealjrn philosoraptor
Looks like now 13 of them have moved. I think the Meh staff is going to be able to retire after this sale.
“built in”/“integrated” mopping system.
in the video is he putting on an attachment?
or just pushing a button?
@ekw I believe it’s an attachment. I did some study of this brand before buying one today. I’ve also heard that wet wiping feature is more of a silly addition than a useful feature.
But still, no usable warranty!?
Where’s the 2 for $10.00 stuff?
@clarion47
Gotta make you appreciate (and contrast) the cheap crap somehow!
So, $500 for a knockoff? I’m proud of you, Meh.
@blaineg . You will get a much better price this Thanksgiving Day. So many Roborock S6 deals will soon be available. Just check out the deals page and bookmark and be the first so that you won’t miss the deal price.
$500?!??! What has this site turned into?
We have the S5 and it is wonderful. The S6 is software downgraded suction to add longer battery life.
Look for the reviews and you will see that they do out perform a lot of the other brands.
how does it mop the carpets?
@username very carefully.
So I bought a new mattress and a nice ribeye steak for dinner had beers and wings at the pub with son and his wife and still have $150 left vs buying this thing. Winning!
@rustyh3 guessing the wife does all the vacuuming in this household.
