@eeterrific it means that the battery, the charger, and the scooter have passed a set of standardized safety guidelines so that its very hard(but not impossible) to catch on fire
It means that one wheel can go reverse at the same time the other goes forward, i.e., you can turn in place. (Or just spin like a top, it’s fun for the first few seconds.)
@GeckoD Actually, according to the countless hoverboard fail videos out there, it’s older people taking the harder falls. Teens just hop right back on these accidents-waiting-to-happen, damn them!
@tizio Wow, there’s all sorts of lucky there. Lucky, but probably not cheap! Not to mention the sunbather that almost got a bad case of tire burn or a buzz cut.
I just ordered one for grandson #2. He’s 12, and has wanted one since they came to market, but we held him off because of the fire hazard thing. He will be thrilled come Christmas. Gramps is a retired RN, and will also be buying him helmet and pads to go with his hoverboard.
@Lurker Can I be grandson #3? I promise to always wear my safety gear, and I’ll walk it every day, and feed it, and clean up after it, and and and, stuff!
Got one last time. They are cheaply made. Had to send it for warranty repairs within the first week as the charger no longer worked. There were loose screws rattling around causing it to short out. It took 2 months for repair and return. It’s fixed, but missing screws on the cover. Cheap Chinese plastic. At $99, still pretty tempting!
@mellowirishgent Just providing some caution. There’s probably a good reason it’s the lowest price you’ve ever seen for one of these! Meh forwarded me to the “manufacturer” for warranty issues. I had to contact someone at kalorik.com (a Florida based company) which appears to be a 4th party seller of these. The actual “manufacturer” is in China. So, for warranty repair…I had to send it to a Chinese company in California. After I sent photos of the issue, the contact with Kalorik indicated I needed to ship the item (at least they paid for shipping) to the Chinese service center in California. The contact with Kalorik provided me the following: “Please be advised, the repair center is an outside, third party center. We cannot influence the amount of time it will take to have the item repaired and returned to you. Once the item is repaired it will be mailed directly from the repair center to you. We cannot guarantee a turnaround time or provide updates on the repair.” It took 2 months. Just a friendly word of caution!
@RedOak I’ve never seen one of these at $99 before…probably never will again. I own 2 of them and never had an issue with the first one (of course it wasn’t from a company with a made up name like “Riviera”). The repair seems to have worked…after I’ve opened it up to take the loose screws out again.
@mellowirishgent The manual actually says 220. I contacted Meh after I received mine last time, they said the seller verified the 260. So far, it has not broken under 230.
@FightingMongoos Good find. Looks like almost all the complaints are about it not charging. At least that would be a quick and easy thing to discover so it could be returned (or repaired).
In for two for thing1/2’s 12th birthday. Spouse is going to kill me after the first extremity fracture, but they’ve wanted them for years. Will I have these by 11/21?
These are a lot of fun, but their tiny hard wheels make them pretty irritating for use outside. They’re pretty vulnerable to sidewalk cracks, curbs, etc, and by vulnerable, I mean it’ll throw you forward at 6MPH. Strongly encourage practicing holding hands with a friend at first… Once out and about, gloves are just as important as a helmet-- You’ll undoubtedly go flying forward and gouge your hands up on the concrete. (At which the hoverboard will roll over and gouge itself up)
All that said, they’re still pretty fun. I bought another one so I’ve got a shiny one for me to play with, and another for others to play with.
My first one has a screw or something rattling inside it… I might disassemble it and remove it one of these days.
Oh yeah, and I don’t care what anyone says, take some precautions with the Lithium batteries (and good Lithium-ion practices anyway).
Don’t leave it on the charger and leave home and/or go to bed… Charge it during waking hours, unplug when it’s done. Leaving it on the charger is never a good idea (phones, laptops, etc)
Heat kills lithium batteries… If you’ve been riding it a while and it’s warm, wait for it to cool before charging, your battery will thank you
If you’re not going to use it a while, store it partially charged (standard long-term storage for lithium-ion is half charged)
If any when you’ve destroyed it, it should be recycled properly (along with your CFL bulbs)
Fortunately it sounds like the Meh-verboard is not affected by the recall:
The agency is warning consumers to not use LayZ hoverboards and has issued recalls for hoverboards made by the following brands: Dollar Mania Sonic Smart Wheels, Tech Drift, Digital Products iLive, iHoverspeed, Four Star Imports Go Wheels, Drone Nerds, and Salvage World.
@juliancates Mine is scheduled for delivery today too. Did it come packaged inside a plain box? so worried by son is going to come home from school and find his hoverboard from Santa sitting on the front step!
@71lisamoore Yes and no. The colorful product box was packaged inside of a plain brown shipping box. But the brown box says “Spec: Self Balancing Scooter” on the outside.
I ordered a Red one in July that had a bad rattling sound right out of the box, which other folks at the time reported as normal. It’s been a fun toy, so I ordered two white ones as gifts.
My two new ones arrived today.
Since they didn’t have the same ‘rattle’ I disassembled my original to find one of the screws securing the battery pack bouncing inside. Fortunately it never shorted out and either threw me off violently and/or started a fire as a result of a short. Anyway during the disassembly-- I also noticed that the standoffs holding the plastic shell on were pretty broken and only a fraction of the screws were actually holding it together. Kind of crappy design.
If your hoverboards have any rattling around inside, it was probably dropped in shipping, has screw(s) loose, and should be sent back for safety.
TEST THESE BEFORE THE HOLIDAY!
Meh past history has taught me if I don’t test Meh closeout shit as soon as it arrives, chances are I’ll find a problem in 6 months when I finally open/gift it/use it and I’ll be shit-out-of-luck. In this case, I opened and tested both scooters and made sure they charged up OK to a solid orange light. (Most of the complaints about these were failure to charge problems)
PUT YOUR BLACK BUMPERS ON!! I just found my bumpers, but really should have put them on months ago. My scooter is all scratched up now from learning to ride it. I hope that Riviera or Meh will sell me a replacement plastic shell for my July one. Hint: When putting them on, start at one end and stretch the material ever so slightly so it is the proper width for the channel.
Other Observation: The PCB for these has a header for “music”, as well as a bunch of non-populated parts. (It seems a “nicer” model of this has bluetooth, which is probably a stupid idea, except for those that get absolutely turned-on by bluetooth enabled shit…) Ironically, the speaker ‘vent’ is on the side without the speaker, WTF! The barely audible “you’re going too fast, slow-the-fuck-down” beep and the ever so important “your battery is dead and I’m-going-to-throw-you-off-soon” beep comes out of the side without the speaker holes, which is why you can’t hear it at 6-10MPH…
The identical black one bought from MorningSave 2 weeks ago arrive with a broken plastic shell. MS directed me to E-Mail Kalorik, so I did…
Response:
Thank you for your email inquiry. You would have to contact meh to
assist with repairs or exchanges. Our 3rd Party Repair Center is
permanently closed they are aware of this.
I suppose I’m going to have to source replacement shells myself on Alibaba.
And if something really terrible happens, and they eventually get caught up in a recall, I suspect all bets are off getting any kind of support from the US importer, Kalorik.
@caffeineguy After finally opening mine up to investigate the rattling, I found that every single case screw that was going into the metal frame had been overtightened to the point that it broke through the bit of the frame that holds the screws on.
I’ve contacted Meh about it but I suspect this is a manufacturing defect common in every unit.
Please update here if you find a good source for cheap replacement case parts.
@The_Tim Yeah-- Exactly the same situation… Perhaps my pieces were red. Meh doesn’t have much to offer. They offered to let me return my Morningsave unit, but no more available, so I accepted a coupon to keep it and glue it back together myself. I think I’ll try to find 5-10 shells on alibaba.
@The_Tim Best bet is probably just ebay-- They’re about $20/shipped, probably a bit cheaper than the ones currently installed, but you can get some funky colors… It seems pretty easy to tell which ones should be bolt on replacements.
@The_Tim I found the same issue. Shell was cracked. I opened to find all the screws overtightened and busted. I ordered the mentioned above and rebuilt the damned thing. It wasn’t as easy as pop this one off and pop the new one on. You’ve go to rerun the power and charging ports, re hot glue the lights… the list goes on… but got it accomplished. I feel a bit safer knowing what’s inside and it’s been done properly this time.
@The_Tim EXACT SAME ISSUE! but my internal LED is blinking 8 times then repeating, my 8 year old daughter is heartbroken!! This was her xmas present. Please keep this posted with updates of how you got a remedy! pretty please!!
@Thumperchick I sent first email on 12/26/17 it has been 2 business days already very frustrated , no customer service line? and my kid still without a Christmas present that works right.
I also sent a message to support on 12/24 with no response. My daughters xmas present is not functioning whatsoever now. Charges and turns on but will not move. From my readings it might need new circuit boards but would be nice to have some kind of warranty.
@bgmille Hi, the specs post at the top of the page has the warranty info.
CS is behind due to the holiday volume. We will get to you and we’ll get you taken care of. Thanks for your patience.
I bought 3 but one not operating. Waiting to hear back from Meh. Last I heard they had an overload syndrome. Hope that’s over soon. Need to resolve as soon as possible but I understand it’s a busy time. Talk to you all soon. Keep the deals coming in the meantime.
Our worked great for 7 days, suddenly stopped working today. No lights or nothing, just beeps incessantly!! Plugged in or unplugged. Beep beep beep. Crazy! Sent Meh a support email. Anyone have any tips??
@kmatias I fixed ours with a reset.
Turn off
Hold power button down until blue lights flash on the front
Let go of power button
Adjust scooter to be as level as possible. We eyeballed it.
Wait 10 seconds.
Power off again.
Wait 10 seconds.
Power on normally. Should be fixed. Ours was anyway.
Mine works great! Kid absolutely lives on it during waking hours. It did stop working once and I watched a YouTube video how to reset it. This also worked great. Problem is now the housing shell is cracked. I’ll need to buy a replacement, and a silicone case. Any way we can get an official source that will guarantee to fit?
Dear Meh, I am really not trying pester you, but I have submitted two support tickets about my hoverboard purchase. It does appear you try to respond to posts here, so pretty please email me about solutions to my non-functioning hoverboard. I bought one each for my two kids, my sons works great and we couldn’t be happier, by my daughters hasn’t worked since the first second day out of the box. She is 8 and it is winter so she had only rode around the house. The rattle I discovered was the same situation as others above have experienced with all the broken plastic. But my internal LED is also blinking 8 times and repeating. And there is the solid red light on the top. One side recognizes foot pressure, the other does not beep at all. Thank you again for any help.
I purchased one of your hover boards for my daughter for Christmas. It worked for a couple weeks and is now giving us a red light error. It will turn on and everything works fine until you try to move. That’s when the red light comes on and it makes a beeping noise. What do I have to do to get this fixed. Very disappointed it broke already. Someone please contact me.

@narfcake Any idea if these hover carts don’t fit this? When buying a hover cart seat, do we have to worry about compatibility?
I hope someone else has fun with them.

@communistjack and chick! Rofl
@boygenius1991 get two!
@boygenius1991 beat me to that post by exactly 29 minutes.
Emphasizing this single spec in the write up might have sold a couple hundred of them to “big, kid wannabes”.
But then I’m within spec. Gotta do some selling to make this deal go thru…
When it says “certified”, does that mean you have to be certified to buy it, or to ride it?
@eeterrific it means that the battery, the charger, and the scooter have passed a set of standardized safety guidelines so that its very hard(but not impossible) to catch on fire
@eeterrific Yes
Two many wheels for a hoverboard.
@Pantheist Why do they call them hoverboards? I wonder if they ever saw a sci-fi movie featuring hoverboads…
@TechnicGeek Why do they call them Moon Shoes? You don’t really wear them on the Moon. MARKETING, that’s what.
Radius isn’t measured in degrees
@dickie541 "0-degree turning radius"
Zero here must mean non-existant.
Maybe it only goes straight?
It means that one wheel can go reverse at the same time the other goes forward, i.e., you can turn in place. (Or just spin like a top, it’s fun for the first few seconds.)
@dickie541 Or mehbe hoverboards are a singularity, and size and angle are irrelevant.
@Kerig3 Y True! Somebody confused “radius” with “radians”, methinks! LOL!
wow this beats walmarts black friday front page ad price
Wahhhmbulance
bought it from meh in July @ $144.
why none of the cool tech depreciates like that. Sell me Zune leftovers for $3 or something.
@username Ride one and you’ll be calling for that Wahhhmbulance.
@username Well, at least you got candy corn with it.

Really want to try a hover board, but I’m too old and brittle these days!
/giphy youth is wasted on the young
@giphy Ouch. All that chaos hurts my eyes and my brain.
But it shall stay because it’s easily the most annoying gif you’ve coughed up in, ever.
@ruouttaurmind Same here. And a new hip will wipe out any $ saved here!
@Kerig3 If I had health insurance I’d be all over it.
@ruouttaurmind Pls utilize breathalyzer sold here few months back before posting high octane gif…LOL
@ruouttaurmind I bought one of these last time. It took less than a minute for my teenage daughter to fall off and fracture her arm at the elbow.
Went to the emergency room. The nurse told us that hoverboards are keeping them in business.
@cajun Hoverboards don’t hurt people, clumsy teenagers do.
@GeckoD Actually, according to the countless hoverboard fail videos out there, it’s older people taking the harder falls. Teens just hop right back on these accidents-waiting-to-happen, damn them!
@cajun Less than a minute? Nooo! I hope she had a speedy and smooth recovery with no lasting effect?
Ok, you talked me out of it.
Can I train it to get my beer?
@daveinwarsh No, but maybe you can train your dog to get your beer and ride a hoverboard. Send a video if it works!
Got one during the meh-rathon. Takes a little bit to adjust to ignoring your sense of balance but it’s pretty entertaining until you fall.
I bought one of these last time. Soooo much fun. I even let my kids play with it sometimes.
The jury has been in on these things for quite a while.
I’ll pass.
AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
I can think of much cheaper ways to hurt myself.
The enterprising couple’s massage
So I see the amazon link one has a bluetooth speaker built in, does this one?
If so does it support AAC or Apt-X? Because I don’t want the blue-mangle happening with my hoverboard.
I’ll buy one of these when they hit $49.
@awk And they’ll hit $49 by clipping the wall and falling on its butt!
Wife would never buy this for me. Totally gonna buy this and put it under the tree to me from Santa.
@tizio I wanna do that too. Want to. I do. Hmmm… hopefully they’ll be sold out in the am. Damn, the VMP 4 o’clock hour.
Santa’s gonna be good to me this year
/giphy straight-lucky-poppy
@tizio Wow, there’s all sorts of lucky there. Lucky, but probably not cheap! Not to mention the sunbather that almost got a bad case of tire burn or a buzz cut.
these make really shitty margaritas.
@alacrity Hmmm… I wonder if you can zip-tie drink shakers to the wheels.
@mehcuda67 hmmm… You could drive it over cobblestone and make martinis, i guess. Bloody marys would probably be more appropriate, though.
@alacrity I’m thinking mehbe flaming shooters would be a good fit.
@mehcuda67
I need balance in my life, but I think this self-balancing board would quickly go from the fun side to the work until your dead side.
@ruouttaurmind heh! Well, we have 5 gransons, and 2 granddaughters already, so you would be grandson #6, ok? Ages range 6 months to 15 years.
@Lurker Well, I may be just a wee bit older than the others…
Am I the only one thinking, yah, lots of fun.
But also noodling the parts content… for other also potentially dangerous “projects.”
@RedOak me too. You think BLDCs?
For $104… I had to do it. Christmas is coming, either I’ll keep it or gift it to my little sis. Something. But that is just too good a price.
Really ‘hot’. Case certified fire resistant? Can get replacement battery once battery dies after couple of years?
@givemehdeal
@gallogj 1 WEEK AND THE STORE WOULD NOT TAKE IT BACK? SMELLS LIKE BULLSHIT .
@mellowirishgent
Do you live near the meh.com store?
Me neither.
@mellowirishgent Meh does tend to push folks to the manufacturer if the thing worked when it arrived.
If the manufacturer is not responding in a reasonable amount of time then Meh tends to come to the table.
… although in this case the warranty is by Meh!
@gallogj
After your story? 'Into masochism much?
@mellowirishgent Just providing some caution. There’s probably a good reason it’s the lowest price you’ve ever seen for one of these! Meh forwarded me to the “manufacturer” for warranty issues. Ok noticed a cpl differences from the Amazon product … theirs max weight 220 Mehs 256…Max speed Amazon 10mph… Meh 7.5 … A HELL OF A BUY AT 99 BUCKS
@mellowirishgent The manual actually says 220. I contacted Meh after I received mine last time, they said the seller verified the 260. So far, it has not broken under 230.
Why would you guys sale something that killed a bunch of people last Xmas?
SHAME ON YOU MEH! SHAME SHAME SHAME!
@mzsooner I bet you candy corn kills more people than hoverboards do… Just more gradually.
So THAT’s where all the recalled Samsung phone batteries went!
@mehcuda67 That joke wasn’t funny in July, either
So tempted but the reviews are nicht gut at Walmart.com!
@FightingMongoos Good find. Looks like almost all the complaints are about it not charging. At least that would be a quick and easy thing to discover so it could be returned (or repaired).
Loving the GI Joe reference. The USS Flagg was HUGE.
where would I Hover, I live in the country!! Unless I can use this to Hover on the grass, I’m Out!!¡
While this certainly blows away any of the prices on Black Friday I’ve seen in the leaked ads, I don’t have even the weakest of excuses to buy one

@charlesamorris2 They were available on morningsave.com in Black for $110 (Not counting the 10% discount for VMP)

Fun timing, this story coming out the day after this sale: Additional hoverboards are being recalled after causing two more house fires
Fortunately it sounds like the Meh-verboard is not affected by the recall:
Arrived today. Plenty of power for zooming around the office. Came fully charged. Hopefully the charger works!
@juliancates Thank you so much! I better head home early just to be safe.
Says comparable to the ones on Amazon and Walmart but I can’t seem to find how to connect it Bluetooth
@Whowhatwhen They’re not blutooth models… Which is fine… Less crap to fix.
@caffeineguy My dad never bought cars with automatic windows for the same reason.
@Whowhatwhen Not all models of hoverboards have bluetooth in them.
I ordered a Red one in July that had a bad rattling sound right out of the box, which other folks at the time reported as normal. It’s been a fun toy, so I ordered two white ones as gifts.

@The_Tim EXACT SAME ISSUE! but my internal LED is blinking 8 times then repeating, my 8 year old daughter is heartbroken!! This was her xmas present. Please keep this posted with updates of how you got a remedy! pretty please!!
Fuck
this does not work and cannot get anyone to respond cannot find phone number either very frustrated
@trdrew1 Oh, bummer. I’m assuming you are using the link at https://meh.com/support? There is no phone number to call, unfortunately.
I’m going to ping @tHumperchick to see if she has any ideas.
Hi @trdrew1 - Our normal response time is 1 - 2 business days normally. You’re in there and we’re working out way to you.
@Thumperchick I sent first email on 12/26/17 it has been 2 business days already very frustrated , no customer service line? and my kid still without a Christmas present that works right.
@trdrew1 I replied to you.
I also sent a email on 12/26 due to ours being cracked when opened gift. I’m Waiting patiently but my daughter is very impatient
Our worked great for 7 days, suddenly stopped working today. No lights or nothing, just beeps incessantly!! Plugged in or unplugged. Beep beep beep. Crazy! Sent Meh a support email. Anyone have any tips??
@kmatias I fixed ours with a reset.
Turn off
Hold power button down until blue lights flash on the front
I returned my hooverboard and am waiting for a refund. When will I get it?
