I would have said that this is too much, but my neighbor decided to ring the doorbell in the middle of the night, and now the family is sufficiently spooked (for anyone wondering, they wanted something that a sane person wouldn’t knock on a door at midnight to acquire).
Hard nope on Ring for me. No trust for Amazon after they used video from customer devices in marketing without offering any notification or seeking consent. If that wasn’t enough, they’ve also shared images of individuals that have supposedly committed a crime based solely on reports from individual customers, and have routinely granted law enforcement access to customers’ camera feeds with virtually no justification, much less a warrant.
If you can think of something that the general public is afraid of a tech company doing, there’s a good chance Amazon has done it or will do it.
Is Amazon buying Meh? Back on the old site, an Amazon device (a Kindle) was the first item for sale after Amazon acquired the site. So, now that a device from Ring (a subsidiary of Amazon) is up for sale I have to wonder: Is Amazon buying Meh?
I have one of these and I do not subscribe to the protection plan or ‘sidewalk’ app. As a disabled person knowing who’s on my porch is important because I get my prescriptions delivered. So beating porch pirates is my goal and I need a good head start to retrieve packages. This is a good price for a decent product. If your internet is reliable it’s fantastic. I’m happy with my Ring……
@Dizavid
So you think I am stupid (and probably hundreds of thousands of others) for installing a Video Doorbell next to the entry of my vacation home which I rent out like a hotel room when not using it? A vacation home with a contract that prohibits pets, subletting, and other issues?
What I can’t figure out is why a company would need to severely discount stock entirely because the little name printed on the front of it was changed slightly.

@AaronLeeJohnson You should return the favor very early in the morning.
@AaronLeeJohnson inquiring minds want to know…what did they want?
@AaronLeeJohnson @k4evryng A cup of Kama Sutra oil.

@Aspirant_Fool you’re supposed to end that with “and I am not suicidal.”
Amazon will eventually be seen as the enemy, but they know to make people comfortable until it’s too late. And I am not suicidal.

@trapuh Not to worry, if Amazon acquires meh they’ll get a payday and we’ll all just go to mid.com instead.
@ReusableBox @trapuh Lol. I had to check to see if that was a real site.

I don’t need this since all the folks who come to my door are rank amateurs, not pros. (However, I guess a few of them are plus… )
3:13 PM and only 94 sold. I’m surprised.
I would hope that not even Meh users are stupid enough to buy this booby trap.

I think i’ll pass on contributing to the mass surveillance network being cultivated by these megacorporations.
Ironically, I’d be more likely to buy an off-brand equivalent if it didn’t have a subscription for basic features like recording.
What I can’t figure out is why a company would need to severely discount stock entirely because the little name printed on the front of it was changed slightly.
I don’t want one of these, but I also kinda want one so that I can add the HAL 9000 cover/overlay to it.
