Review of the Nerds - Doctor Who - Ranking the Doctors
2Greetings fellow Mehtizens! Some friends of mine have a review channel where they review nerd topics long-form and sometimes have funny skits to accompany them. These friends have recently released a video that ranks the Doctors while discussing what each one brings to the franchise.
The full video may be TL;DR unless you're into listening to guys opine on geek babble (and come on, that probably describes a lot of us here after hours at a Denny's). This review is couched in a little 3-part skit they made where the Doctor regenerates to look like one of the reviewers, but he doesn't remember who he is. The pair goes through ranking the Doctor's past incarnations to remind him of who he is, where they discuss in-universe details (like the Doctor's companions) and meta-discussions (like what each actor brought to the role). Meanwhile, the other guy thinks it's just his friend messing around. But the end holds a little surprise ...
I figured some of us might find this sort of thing entertaining. So if you would, please view / like / comment on their video.
Thanks!

Not to hijack the thread, but apparently Moffat is leaving next year at the end of the 10 season of the revived series.
@FroodyFrog AND no new who until dec 2016, they wont even start his (moffats') last season until 2017... bastages.
@thismyusername
Well, that too.
Though a person at BBC said that it's partially because this year the lineup on the network will be busy with various things.
Pfft.
@thismyusername Oh wow. I knew Moffat was leaving, but that's crazy.
Yeah, some people are very happy that Moffat is passing the torch.
@Thumperchick
There's a speculation going on that Capaldi may leave at the end of the next season.
Of course, with anything Dr Who related, speculation is pointless.
Although... It would make a bit of sense for several reasons.
@SirLouie I'm one of them. Moffat is a double edged sword. It'll be good to see where someone new takes the series... and the female characters.
@Thumperchick they are walking deading us...
but as a random wise person on the internet said about this delay recently...
@thismyusername
I don't remember saying that ;)
@FroodyFrog obviously, @thismyusername said "a random wise person..." - this made it clear you couldn't be responsible.
@Thumperchick
You seem to have italicized the wrong word. :P
@Thumperchick @thismyusername
I just realized that you were poking fun. Hmph!
@FroodyFrog you're quick.
@Thumperchick Sarcasm?
@FroodyFrog never.
I'll throw this here, so I don't potentially taint comments on the video itself.
There is a bit of a disjointed feel here. The intro was hard to get through and wait out - something I wouldn't have done if I just ran across this video in the wild.
The commentary on the Doctors themselves does start to scratch the surface - but could be a bit deeper if they ditch the weird side commentary that's not quite hitting the mark. I get the idea they're going for - but it's too wandery for my tastes.
Count down lists tend to move along a bit more quickly to stay on point, or they really go into good detail - this video seems like it tried to hit a middle balance, but it's just not working.
@Thumperchick Sincerely appreciate your comments. My friends are looking for advice on their channel so I will be sure to pass yours on. Do you have any specific recommendations? As you can see from some of their other videos, they've been trying various devices - skits, no skits, long, short, deep, surface scratching - but they are still finding their groove. Obviously they can't please everybody but your opinion would likely be a welcome addition to the cacophony they hear.
I think this particular skit was more of the one guy wanting to be the Doctor than a real plot-moving device. Can you blame the guy? ;)

Tom Baker or GTFO
ROck on, man! Tom Baker FTW!!
@ThatsHeadly Yep, with a nod to Jon Pertwee for the ruffled shirts.
FYI, part 2 is up:
The third and final part is online.
Unless it's another April Fools joke, Doctor Who 1-8 are coming to Amazon Prime. What's a good place to start? What series hold up over time?
@AlQ I would argue that starting here at the 2005 series re-introduction (with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor) would be a good starting point.
