Thanks! I filled out my form. I have never been to the NYCC, only SDCC.
@conandlibrarian
I can’t bother to drive 32 miles to NYCC
@FroodyFrog 32 miles! And I’m considering driving 230!
@jbartus
I have nobody to go with, and someone like me is safer when traveling in a pack.
@FroodyFrog hmm… we could set up a Meh group
@jbartus
I would say what I would dress up as, but the Google Image results for the one of the gender’s are kind of disturbing.
(Apparently if I post an image or gif, I need to share for both genders)
@FroodyFrog I’m sure it’s nothing worse than @mfladd and @jaremelz have posted before.
@jbartus
On certain levels the results are worse.
@FroodyFrog color me intrigued.
They need to do this for PAX East
Reserved but not sure I’d bother attending, need to consider my options.
Like, East coast? Seriously? Why would anyone want to go to the east coast? Meh.
@duodec
You’re mixing up the East Coast with Canada.
@FroodyFrog No, I wouldn’t mind visiting Canada, especially the western part. But new york city? Meh. NYC, NY, East coast? Mega-meh. Did it once, never need to do it again.
@duodec
Eastie here.
@duodec
Oh, so it’s only the City you have a problem with. Good, because otherwise I may have taken some offense.
@duodec come to Boston, we’re way more fun.
@jbartus
Pffft.
@FroodyFrog spoken like someone who’s never been in downtown Boston for a Patriots’ parade, eh @mfladd?
@jbartus
I don’t travel to Massachusetts. (It’s an unwritten policy of mine.)
@FroodyFrog hence why you’ve missed out on all of the real fun.
@jbartus
Some of the stuff which I can do for fun doesn’t require me to actually travel anywhere physically.
Also, what if I’m not in the mood for fun?
@FroodyFrog you can’t do everything from everywhere.
@jbartus
Depends what I want to do.
@FroodyFrog Boston things
@jbartus
That sounds toxic to my health. Then again, I’m a poison dart frog, so…
@jbartus Been to Boston. Got my rental car broken into, and saw a mugging (pre-cellphone… tried to find a payphone but someone else had already called; police took 25 minutes to arrive). Fortunately no real injuries though the tourist victims were badly shaken (welcome to f*cking Boston, eh?). Also fortunately the rental insurance covered the broken window and the rental co was, to put it mildly, ‘unsurprised’ about the break-in. I didn’t lose anything.
Fortunately I was not there long; I spent more time at several suburban and more distant locations doing system and network setups. No problems there.
Getting back into Boston to fly out was also a treat. F*ckers drive worse than californians when they visit Las Vegas. It was trying.
But yeah, NYC is even worse. So no NYC ComicCon. Its not worth it.
@jbartus
The closest I ever got to caring about Massachusetts is by watching this video:
(Based off of this 1987 commercial:
)
@duodec
I personally don’t go to NYC. I’ve never even gone sight-seeing (i.e I never went to the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Twin Towers, Ground Zero etc…)
@mfladd Sorry, maybe someday it will get better. And for what its worth, its not just east coast. Chicago (shitcago) sucks too. Been there many more times than to NYC or Boston and would be happy to never be forced to go in there again.
@FroodyFrog but i like ice hockey, maple syrup and snow. What are you, a communist??? Lol
@duodec what part of Boston? It’s like any city, there are gonna be bad parts.
@FroodyFrog check out our license plates
That ad campaign was so weird.
@jbartus Most big cities are the bad part. Its just the nature of the beast.
@jbartus
I prefer this one from Oklahoma:
@duodec That’s why MA drivers are called Massholes by all the surrounding states.
@duodec East coasters are not alllll bad… However, I learned to drive in MA… wow, that was a treat!! We do have some nice areas, I promise.
@mikibell I have no doubt. There are probably lots of surviving areas that haven’t been thoroughly ‘east coasted’ on the east coast
@FroodyFrog I wanted you to see the slogan
@duodec I want to state for the record that Florida drivers are the worst drivers in the United States, not counting the ones we import from Quebec. Their roads are massive, flat, and straight and yet they still manage to encroach upon your lane, cut you off, etc.
And boy howdy, you haven’t seen a terrible parking job til you’ve seen someone in one of Florida’s jumbo sized parking spots manage to block access to the doors of the vehicles on either side of them.
Yeeaaa. All you east coast haters can keeeeep on hatin… DragonCon FTW. Pfff ComicCon? Please.
@polarbear84
DragonCon has several of my favourite things hinted at in the name.
@FroodyFrog DragonCon for me and most of my best friends, is home. Ive never felt more at peace anywhere on earth than i do at DragonCon.
DragonCon is the absolute epitome of conventions, bar none. Once you go and breathe in the experience of it, you’ll never go to another convention and be as amazed as that first trip to Atlanta.
DragonCon is absolutely anything and everything even remotely nerdly, youll find there. Its a 6 day long drunken debaucherous nerd party with the best costuming youll find anywhere.
That on top of a huge guest list, 24 hour events, fan tracks for everything nerdy you can imagine… i cant truly explain the entirety of the DragonCon experience… you just have to come.
@polarbear84
I don’t do well around guys in costumes.
So why don’t you like DragonCon exactly? Slightly confused.
See, here’s the thing. If I were to actually travel anywhere, and I wound up in Atlanta, the chances of going to DragonCon as the first thing I do are about the same as certain people on this forum going a week without positing certain types of .gifs.
@polarbear84 I thought you were in Virginia?
@jbartus I am. I drive every year to DragonCon. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.
@FroodyFrog
Why do costumes bother you? I’m not being a smartass, I genuinely would like to know… (it’s hard to convey context over the internet :P) It’s more of a celebration of skill and artwork, plus theres nearly 75,000 attendees there, so its a ton of people.
Also, I’m slightly confused by your question, I love DragonCon. Did you mean why I didn’t like ComicCon?
It’s very hard to explain the entirety of DragonCon to someone who’s never been, honestly. Unlike ComicCon, D*C doesn’t operate around business hours. CC closes in the convention hall around 8 or 9, depending on the day, then you go back to your hotel and party or whatnot. DC has things going on literally 24 hours a day from Thursday to the end of Monday. Most people that love DC like i do, show up on Wednesday and party until the following Tuesday. It’s kind of like nerd Marti Gras. Kind of.
@polarbear84
It was a joke.
When I see people praise something, I ask them why they don’t like whatever they’re talking about.
@FroodyFrog ohhhhhhhhhhhhh lol @ me then. Now I feel dumb.
I got my four day pass!!
@conandlibrarian
Enjoy.
