I have one too many (until the next sale), if anyone is feeling [non-buyer's remorse] for the Acer 15", we can barter, or you can pay shipping, or send me some brownies, whatever, Meh.
@DMlivezey So tempting! Man, but I already have 3 laptops and a nice HP Chromebook with the T-Mobile sim card for life...if nobody bites I'll bake you some brownies (I used to cook for a living) and pay shipping. Say...you don't mean brownies do you?
Hm. Sounds fascinating. I'm going on an extended trip in April, and one of those Chromebook doohickeys could come in pretty handy. I can offer you shipping, brownies, and a one-night stay at the premiere bed-and-breakfast in Deadwood, South Dakota. (Okay, so we're, like, the only b-and-b in Deadwood, but I figure that qualifies us for "premiere" status on at least two levels.)
I like PDA's because they show that a person could use a device with less than 100MB of RAM. Of course now with smartphones, you have OEM's releasing phones with 6Gb of RAM...
@FroodyFrog Funny you mention RAM. On the other side of my desk I've got an operable 486-66 with 16 MB of RAM. It runs Quest for Glory IV like a champ.
@Avxyvei The first (and only) "big ticket" prize I've ever won was a Palm PDA. In the days before smart phones it was awesome. Had to use a cable to sync it up but it could d/l the news, sports etc and keep me on task all day!
My favorite app on it was a baseball scoring thing--no more pencil and paper for me! No sir! I got to use a stylus! Folks used to unknowingly distract me to ask about it at the ballpark...they didn't know but they really screwed up my pitch count. lol
@therealjrn Never had a Palm, but I had a couple of WindowsCE PDAs back in the day. Ah, the stylus. Not only did it make a satisfying plastic tap, it was something you could hold in your hand to make you look studious. Might explain my strange affinity for Samsung Galaxy Note phones.
@FroodyFrog I'm almost never a first-adopter, but had a pretty early Palm PDA 'cause I had a friend who worked for them & he got me a great deal... Anyhoo, used it mostly to keep track of my 'collections' (Forgotten Realms books, Hot Wheels cars, RPG game disks/cartridges, etc) so I could skulk around garage sales & flea markets looking for more without lugging around huge binders of my lists. Eventually it was used for nothing more than to play Ack-Wire (a Palm-OS version of the 3M/Avalon Hill bookshelf game Acquire). After years of use, the battery finally crapped out (replacements are still available on eBay, but I don't think Ack-Wire is available). TL;DR - I loved my Palm device too!
He really enjoyed it, until it went to Electronics Heaven.
Then, someone got him the Tungsten E2, which he used for a while, but after getting it fixed numerous times, it got to the point where it was cheaper to buy a refurbished one. Of course, eventually the replacement also developed issues, so it's sitting in a drawer.
Palm Pilots had some great games which I'm a bit surprised were never ported to Android and iOS.
I never had one, always wanted one (since they came out), but the closest i got was with random PDAs.
Of course, I got an iPod (Nano 2nd Gen), which he was a tad jealous of, but then again, he had a bunch of boom boxes. Then again, he hasn't used most of the boom boxes in years, and i haven't touch my iPod in years....
Ohh my grandparents would love it. I will send you cookies of your choice made by a real baking grandma, fun surprises in the box w cookies and shipping charges
I can see my post was very ambiguous now, based on responses @CrossIT, and you will all be less interested in about one sentence. I didn't intend this to be a give away, but a like value exchange (or near-like value, in the eyes of the beholder). Sorry about that. Now, if only I wanted to visit South Dakota. Is that far from St. Paul, MN @Avxyvei?
BTW, you can download a version of Chromebook and install it on an old crappy laptop and it works great. I just did it with an HP Pavillion DV5000, which came with Windows XP Home (maybe 10 years old?). Now I am really feeling stupid for buying an extra Chromebook.
And one final thought, to sweeten the barter-stash on my side of the deal (if anyone is still listening/reading), I'll ship the Chromebook with a pink Fuku bag.
@FroodyFrog Maybe a better description of the fudge would get me inspired? I'll give you a picture of the Fuku bags gratis, oh what the heck, I'll do it for free.
But making a deal for the pink Fuku bag will have to wait at this point since I have just offered it with the Chromebook, Meh.
I'll trade you the location of a stash of "brownies" for a picture of the Chromebook in question (or one of equal value/same model)
@FroodyFrog ur crackin' me up here

@therealjrn
I think we're thinking of the same kind of "brownies". ;)
@DMlivezey
@FroodyFrog i don't think those travel well ;)
so what would you want for it just shipping?

@Avxyvei That deal is too rich for me, I'm out. :::folds:::
@therealjrn
How about we combine forces in order to top @Avxyvei's offer?
Then if we win, you could have the Chromebook.
I just want to lick it anyways. I don't actually need it for anything else.
@FroodyFrog If that's what you're after, I've totally got an old Dell Axim PDA laying around. About the only thing it's good for anymore is licking.
@Avxyvei

Palm OS FTW
@therealjrn
Palm OS <- YES!!!!!!!

@compunaut
My brother got this as a gift in 2002:
He really enjoyed it, until it went to Electronics Heaven.
Then, someone got him the Tungsten E2, which he used for a while, but after getting it fixed numerous times, it got to the point where it was cheaper to buy a refurbished one.

Charge me shipping and give me a recipe and I can send you a couple of my favorite things with the brownies
Barter? I happen to have a fine collection of neoprene sleeves that would be very valuable to protect your brownies and keep them warm.
Ohh my grandparents would love it. I will send you cookies of your choice made by a real baking grandma, fun surprises in the box w cookies and shipping charges
@Catdad Do you use the whole grandma? Or just the good parts? Oh! and you should only use real vanilla for that down-home good taste.

Would you accept fudge in exchange for the pink fuku bag?
What about for a picture of the bag?

@DMlivezey We're about an eight hour drive from Saint Paul. But we have way more mountains than Minnesota. Also, more Old West guys who swear a lot.
I have some serious stash I would be willing to barter, off the record of course
