RECALL ALERT: SharkNinja pressure cooker / air fryer. Explosion hazard
5Just a note that there is a recall on the SharkNinja pressure cooker / air fryer. I purchased this from Meh on October 22, 2021. Just in case you bought one here. I found out from CNET.com
Recall Website is here: https://www.rqa-inc.com/client/SharkNinja/SubForm/index.html#header-form

This has been discussed in some details at the bottom half of this page:

Not everybody are daily meh talkers like some of us. Thanks for looking out @wpstone
Meh staff notified everyone that bought one here. I got the email so I would assume all the other people got notified as well.
@cengland0 Anyone lucky enough to have received one in an IRK will have missed that email since the staff doesn’t know where such items end up. Mine was in that category. I still haven’t used it, for Reasons.
@cengland0 @werehatrack
Yeah… but did you file the paperwork for the recall?? Did you get a new lid?
@cengland0 @werehatrack Wow, getting one in an Irk is super lucky!
@chienfou Yes I did fill out the paperwork on May 27 and got an immediate acknowledgement. Then on June 19, they sent me the following update:
@chienfou FYI, They sent out my replacement Foodi lid.
@cengland0

FYI, it’s just the pressure cooker lid that was recalled.
@ItalianScallion And they’re running behind on getting the warranty campaign lids from the production plant. Mine was requested several months ago, and as of a couple of days ago, it is still supposed to arrive “sometime in the next 6 weeks” (if that doesn’t get another delay).
I don’t have anything of value to add to this conversation. I just wanted to point out that despite some people not liking all the AI now on the site, the image for this topic is pretty great. The only critique I have is that there could be a ninja in the sharksplosion.
@die13lda I agree.
I got an email today stating that my replacement lid has been shipped via UPS. I assume it’s probably coming from California, so I’ll have it next week sometime. Maybe I’ll try out the unit when I get the new lid.
My replacement lid has arrived.
A close examination of the old vs the new lids reveals just one visible difference. The replacement lid has a prominent sticker warning the user not to try to remove the lid while the unit is pressurized. I am going to infer that there have been people who have applied enough brute strength to wrench the thing open while it’s still over 212F, with predictable results. I don’t think that’s enough to have triggered this recall, so I don’t know what may have been the failure mode that’s being addressed.
Anyway, this new lid is identical to the old one in every way visible except for the warning labels, and those are much more explicit about “Don’t Do Stupid Shit, Mmmkay?” There is a possibility that some of the recall units had a materials problem that only becomes apparent in the event of failure. I think I’m going to scavenge and retain the lid seal just in case I use the unit enough to wear it out, damage or deform it. If that seal were the basis of the recall, I’m sure that’s all that would have been supplied.
@werehatrack I thought the same as you but when I went to use the new one I noticed something was different.
When I went to release the pressure there seems to be a slight hump. If you dont go past this barely perceptible hump the pressure won’t release but going over the knob stays in the open position and steam is released.
@fjp999 Mine apparently had that to begin with. I wonder if there was something of a manufacturing tolerance problem that omitted it on some of them…
