So I just read this book like in one day because it was awesome. Now I hear the film adaptation is gonna be directed by Steven Spielberg. Anybody else a fan?
Love it! The audio book is really good to, read by Wil Wheaton. I have no idea how they will be able to pull this off as a movie but I'm excited to see them try. Ernest Cline's new book Armada comes out in July, can't wait for that either.
@producepimp I loved the audiobook! I got the paperback version in my Loot Crate and plan to read it again but I think I will still hear Wil Wheaton's voice as I do. I hadn't heard about Cline's new book but I'm on board already.
Try not to spoil it for yourself unless you really just wanna know, but if you didn't know already know: Ernest actually put a hunt into the book that led to online gates that eventually ended with someone winning his Delorean as the grand prize. See if you can find it.
Oh and yeah the movie news is awesome considering how long it was in limbo. I would love to work on it in any capacity, but my guess is it's either going to be international or random studios too far away from me.
Weird coincidence because the author appears in the documentary Atari: Game Over, which @JonT and I both watched at the same time on Tuesday night, independently of each other and without any previous conversation. Anyway no I haven't ever heard of it before then, I can't read.
Not to be a contrarian jerk, but man, I didn't like it at all. It seemed so formulaic and predictable. The only surprise was what 80's reference they could cram in. I don't know. Maybe I've just seen too many VR novels/movies. I was just bored by the time the hero patches things up with his girlfriend.
A friend loaned this to me a couple of years ago as I was leaving on a road trip. It was an interesting book to read in a tent in the middle of nowhere.
Ernest Cline is releasing another book, Armada, mid-July.

I love it. I related so much to it because I remembered so many of the games, got so many of the references. It was awesome!
I actually just started it at lunch today after much encouragement from my husband. So far it's a good read!
got this in a lootcrate. been sitting in a corner somewhere collecting dust. i'm not a book reader.
@ryancunderwood send it out in the next mehrican exchange! Someone will be psyched.
Ooh, I haven't read it but always love a good recommendation. Thanks!

The stacks creeped me out. I don't like heights.
I got mine in Loot Crate too- I'll go grab it now. Is is older kid friendly?
@sammydog01 I can't think of anything that was not older kid friendly except for a few random and rare cusswords.

@Moose wait. This isn't you? So disappointed!
It's a great book - when Facebook bought Oculus my first thought was "here comes the Ready Player One world...."
Nice. It's time for a new book, and it looks like this is gonna be it. Thanks for the heads up.
Great book! Another I would highly recommend is The Martian by Andy Weir, which will also be a movie.
@JimCil +1

@Kento agree entirely with kento. I thought it was interesting with the 80's allusions, but strictly plot-wise, it was just. . . Meh.
That said, I read it in 2-3 days.
