@phendrick@shahnm My dog eats broccoli, steamed, roasted or raw (including stems). In fact, he will eat about anything that even vaguely resembles FUUD. I am his 4th caretaker - he is well fed and cared for, but I don’t know what his earlier life was like to make him so food-obsessed.
@hchavers All the people who put their dogs on the grain free meal plan, are finding out that is not good for dogs. The one thing everyone forgets is wolves, coyotes, and foxes all eat small game. And part of eating the game is the intestines. And those intestines are full of grains and grasses. Think deer,rabbits and mice.
@Pavlov People like my mother that fed me a fast-food and TV-dinner diet could have been accused of child neglect (remember when frozen dinners were called TV dinners? This was before microwaves).
I’m not saying it can’t be done in a healthy way for dogs, but it’s probably very hard to achieve, and unless you’re a vet/nutritionist, I think it’s very dangerous for the dog.
Dogs are omnivores but they have different nutrition needs than us. You can’t just put them on a vegan diet like a human… even for humans it can be bad if you don’t know what you’re doing and get the right nutrition.
Good luck getting the vegans to stay quite while you prepare them for turning into dog food.
@yakkoTDI Depending upon the dog and the vegan, this might be a pretty good plan…
@shahnm “Screw it, i’ll go out and kill some dinner!”
@shahnm My dog actually likes steamed broccoli (up to a point).

Dogs are in the same Family as wolves, coyotes, and foxes, and are all carnivores.
@hchavers Omnivores, actually:

I wouldn’t put humans on a vegan diet, much less dogs.
@chuckf1 Yep I agree!
My dog was on an all-vegan diet but I ran out of vegans.
@jouest There’s plenty of vegans here. I’ll send you some!
@jouest wow, all you need is go to Calf. But better yet start in Washington DC., but that is a massively huge bag of mixed Nuts & Veggies!
People that feed their dog a vegan diet should be prosecuted for animal abuse.

I would say that from my experience cats love licking watermelon rinds.
Also cleanses the palette after a tasty mouse.
@pmarin Some of my cats liked to lick cantaloupe and grapefruit rinds, too! Weird because they’re supposed to hate citrus.
@Kyeh @pmarin My mom had a cat that liked iced tea. Of course that cat was a Calico and they are usually nuts.

I’m just here to laugh at the mental gymnastics of the idiots that think it’s a good idea.
