10So I hope everyone is freezing their accounts. I’m just going to link to a nerd wallet article but it’s pretty thorough.

Bottom line you can request a freeze on all three reporting agencies. You can turn it on and off at will (used to cost money)
I only turn the freeze off the day I chose to get a pull.

If you set up logins with them it takes at max 5 minutes to put in a 1 day temporary lift. Which is immediate. So you know you’re going to apply for credit/request a credit limit increase on your cards. Etc. you put in a one day “thaw”. There’s really no downside.
If you think you got talked into something you didn’t mean to/gave someone to much info you can also set a fraud alert. Which is another level/requires creditors to contact you.
All of this is totally free. Federal consumer protection act stuff. They will of course ask you to upgrade/pay to see all three in one site etc. just make sure you ignore that/keep my level etc.

One final note. A freeze does not impact existing accounts like credit scores being reported to you via your bank/credit cards etc. Those are verified relationships and they are reporting to the agencies. They get feedback. No issues.
A freeze will even block a soft pull. So if I go to one of my banks and want to see what my personal loan interest would be. They are going to do a soft pull and you get back a “we couldn’t do it” message. Hence a temporary lift
You have to unfreeze for a Security Clearance investigation.
I guess that I like the fact that the freeze even blocks the US govies. And surprised.
