@ircon96 Those are gases, not particles. You need charcoal filtration for that. And while these have some activated carbon in the panel, its life is far shorter than the particulate section. HEPA filters are for particulates; the addition of charcoal is an extra.
You’re getting the whole unit for $11 over the price of the OEM replacement filter element here. Aftermarket filter panels are about half that much. If you are ever going to buy a HEPA filter with a decent capacity, this would seem to be a heck of a bargain.
How much are replacement filters and how long do they last? Where can you buy them? Is it possible to clean and re-use the provided filter(s) or is that a terrible idea?
@psantora No, you cannot clean the panel; it’s single-use only. Most HEPA filters in a typical US household environment will go for six months at least, but conditions vary. (Mine run closer to ten months.) The OEM panels are currently listed for about $45 on Amazon, and aftermarket panels are about half of that. Those prices are pretty typical for a panel of this size and capacity.
@psantor My #1 concern is ALWAYS, How much are replacement filters and how often do i need to change them?!? I have a Bissell MY AIR. The filters are about $16. Its pretty good but Id rather have one that is Really GREAT!!
@hchavers
Nope. You had a few hours to hit the cancel button before the status flipped to “Processing”, and that’s that. Besides, these are not a sub for a mask worn to get your venti latte with a double shot art Starbucks. These are for scarfing up some of the usual crap floating around in your air, like dust, pollen, cat hair, and the anthrax powder that your terrorist “friend” sent in that weird letter that exploded on the dining table this morning. (And don’t count on one of these to make dusting unnecessary, it doesn’t work like that.)
@phendrick A small 400-square-foot air-conditioned barn with a concrete floor, doors that aren’t left open, and a collection of non-running vintage motorcycles? Sure. YMMV for anything else.
$44.99 for a replacement filter (“recommended every 5 months”) or $54.99 for two if you buy aftermarket, though some of the reviews for those are a bit frightening.
@Penina I think they are using the “razor blade” merchandising model.
OTOH, you could always just make your own, if you really want to economize:
[Disclaimer: I have not (yet) tried this myself.]
If you try it and it works, give the guy some “Likes”. Video has been up for 7 years, and only 31 likes (but no dislikes!) Only 6 comments, but no negatives.
Also, see the next post below, concerning filter materials.
Okay, after reading all reviews & questions on the 'Zon, I bought one. With two cats and dirty ducts, this should help in the master bedroom. Replacement filters currently at $44, but I’ll deal with that later, if I like this gizmo and it actually works.
@kevinrs My order went through a minute ago… don’t know it that was a VMP perk for me, if stock count changed, or if you hit an unfortunate website glitch. Give it another try.
I also ordered two, each one was delivered on a separate day. One had a horrible “clack clack clack” sound, like when we were kids and stuck a baseball card (or balloon) in our bike spokes. Was going to complain, but instead, I removed the seven screws in the back, and discovered the rotary fan was not seated correctly on the center bolt. The fan will fit on the bolt in any direction, but you have to spin the fan after it is on the bolt to find the “lock” or “notch on the bolt” position. You will then feel the fan “drop and click” into the bolt “lock” or maybe a better description would be “notch”. Then re-install the locking washer, and put the back on, and re-install the 7 screws, and BAMM!, no more “clack clack clack” sound!

Mmm… windy. Just in time for a nuclear winter.
@guybrush01, ah,…except winter is almost over, but it ain’t over until the fat lady sings!!
@1DisabledWarVet @guybrush01
This should help with my emissions.
But will this also work in small rooms?
@Bcburk Even better.
@Bcburk To be safe you might have to take out a wall or two.
For those times when Poo-Pourri just doesn’t cut it. Or when you do.

@werehatrack Much like that old Reese’s ad, you got your science in my facetiousness. Do you heckle at comedy clubs, too?

@werehatrack Here’s a link to what seems to be the instruction manual / user’s guide for this model:
https://probreeze.com/us/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2019/08/PB-P01-US-Instruction-Manual_compressed.pdf
It gives the model # for the replacement filter (which Meh didn’t bother to do).

The ionizer is snake oil. The rest of it looks legit.
@werehatrack For sure. At least there’s a button to turn it off.
@werehatrack Can you recommend a source for replacement ionizer snake oil?
If I buy this, do I get my $20 back spent for the mask yesterday?
@hchavers
Nope. You had a few hours to hit the cancel button before the status flipped to “Processing”, and that’s that. @hchavers, if you wear a mask in your own home then maybe try not eating 2 many Pinto Beans.
@1DisabledWarVet @hchavers
A mask at home during Tree Sex Season is a damned good idea for a lot of us.
Can a barn be considered a “large room”?
@phendrick A small 400-square-foot air-conditioned barn with a concrete floor, doors that aren’t left open, and a collection of non-running vintage motorcycles? Sure. YMMV for anything else.
@werehatrack Who told you about my motorcycles? Are you with the HOA?
@phendrick @werehatrack, No, he’s [she’s] from Home- land Security!
Ionizer huh?! Hard Meh.
Is there an “always on” option? I see that there is a “1-2-4” hour timer, and a “sleep” timer, I want this thing on 24/7. Thanks!
@BuddTX yes, there is an always on
@atoy @BuddTX And an always off, no doubt.
@BuddTX Thank you both, in for two!
“They’re in cigarettes.” Maybe the least compelling, even if only tangential, reason to buy something I’ve ever seen put forth here.
@mehvid1
Some of us are old enough to remember “over, under, around and through”.
@werehatrack yeah… I don’t get it.
@mehvid1 @werehatrack Near. <run run run> far!
It’s a fan with a furnace filter on top. Big whoop, I’ll take 2.
Another month coming to a end and no mehrathon.
@Lynnerizer
I don’t see an option for the robot version. I want it. Take my money.
@gallogj Me toooooooooooo!!!
Buy 4 - the replacement filters probably cost as much as Meh is selling these for…
@Pufferfishy
The OEM brand filter panel is $14 less on Amazon, and aftermarket ones are about half that.
$44.99 for a replacement filter (“recommended every 5 months”) or $54.99 for two if you buy aftermarket, though some of the reviews for those are a bit frightening.

Also, a great Youtube video on air filters in general:
My Uncle in Southern California says, “If I can’t see it, I can’t breathe it!”
Finally questionable electronics. I’ll take three. Wish this thing had Bluetooth and HDMI but this will do.
How do these work for people who suffer year round with allergies?
Asking… for me. >_> I am in a constant state of suffering.
Okay, after reading all reviews & questions on the 'Zon, I bought one. With two cats and dirty ducts, this should help in the master bedroom. Replacement filters currently at $44, but I’ll deal with that later, if I like this gizmo and it actually works.
Many Amazon reviews say replacement filter is not available. Amazon has some that might fit, but they are 2 for around $100.
@donver That just seems plainly incorrect. The manual linked in another comment above gives the model number of replacement filters as PB-P01F. If you search that on Amazon you get loads of options including the genuine OEM replacement for $45 or a two-pack of generic knock-offs for $55 ($27.50 each).
I hate being part of the consumption & trash culture, but will replace this unit with the next one from meh if replacement filters are a problem.

@ChrisHBelAir
Ok … That’s weird…
(The gif, not the comment)
@chienfou yeah. I agree. As you know we just post our confirmation code into giphy. Who am I to censor the results of the process.
@ChrisHBelAir What an interesting GIF…
@ChrisHBelAir Usually the GIF correlates to one of the 3 words in the order number but this GIF is just off-the-wall weird!
@PooltoyWolf It certainly is causing a minor stir! Wish I could take credit. Just a roll of the dice.
@IndifferentDude So would you suspect elegant, mewing, or suggestions? Knowing anime, I suspect mewing, although it’s a rather provocative suggestion!
@ChrisHBelAir @IndifferentDude
hmmm. maybe they have safe search setting I don’t know about!
Kids with allergies…Amazon reviews get me in for 2

I might have actually bought it, but sold out, so don’t have to worry about spending money on it

Received 1 of 2 so far. Maybe the other one got lost in the mail?

@BuddTX Nice work. You probably just saved it from going to the dump.
In case you missed it, this product is currently available as today’s SideDeal “Deal of the Day” here:
Same price - $59.
Fedex has been consistently late by many days since the start of the pandemic. In contrast UPS, USPS, Amazon have all mostly hit their ETAs
Bought this and it leaves dust on my floor? Not great for filtering the air. #sadface
