@mdszy I agree! I’m always looking for good wired headphones, but I use them to sleep, so I need some that don’t stick out of my ears. I’ve found some that lay completely flat, but only have ok quality, $10 on Amazon. As I’m usually sleep, it doesn’t really matter how good they are.
@Fuzzalini@mdszy The price on the ErgoFits fluctuates a bit, particularly by color. But they are the absolute best buds for the money ever made. I’ve been buying and recommending them for years.
@Fuzzalini@mdszy These (the panasonic $10 headphones that come in many colors) are the best price/value ratio for my family - the kids are hard on headphones, the roomba eats them, the husband loses them. I think they sound good, not great but very good, clear and strong; and I don’t have to cry when a pair is destroyed. Absolutely the best value IMO.
They do not fit close enough to sleep in or wear a motorcycle helmet though.
@mdszy@robin0575 I sleep in them every night, and they don’t stick out hardly at all. They are the closest fitting earbuds I’ve found. And they are a great deal, and eventually they do fall apart after about a year of daily use, who cares? Buy another, maybe in a different color, but usually purple…
This is actually a good pair of headphones, but how will people hold their phones while listening to music you ask? Easy, Meh face pop sockets! Easy installation and a convenient kickstand if you’re watching movies. It’s the power of pop sockets!
@JT954 I’m with you! I just don’t think it’s good to inject all that sound directly into one’s eardrums. On the ears are bad enough. Better invest in hearing aids!
@katbyterhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polk_Audio
Unfortunately, they seem to have recently gone the way of Polaroid and Craftsman since being acquired by Directed Electronics. They have a fair amount of products that is not produced directly by them, but rather license out their name.
@katbyter - seriously? I vividly remember the first time I heard Polk speakers. It was the first time I FELT the heartbeat in Dark Side of the Moon. It triggered my HT/surround sound obsession.
@icehole@DavidChurchRN@RedOak
I have all my hearing and don’t live under a rock. Just don’t stick noisemakers in my ears, so don’t follow the companies who make them. Yes, really.
It seems like every three or for days Meh has earphones, or speakers for sale so even every 4 days, that’s 365÷ 4=91 a year. No, I don’t buy that many, or I would surely be deafer & crazier than I am. A Cospiracy Theorist would say you guys are connected to a Hearing Aid Conglomerate. Ha, ha!! Then again, what the fuck do I know. Today, on Veterans Day, I’m today 71, born on 11•11-Here, it’s still Sunday, anyway, Live Long & Prosper!!
All he ever wanted was to find out who he was, but when pictures of him wearing his Polk Nue Era Headphones show up on celebrity gossip sites, suddenly everyone thinks they know who he is. Who can he trust, and who just thinks he’s Matt Damon? Find out in A Star is Bourne.
I’ve been to far too many rockshows, and although I’m deaf to the mosquito tone, even I can hear beyond 14 KHz. Good headphones should go past 20 KHz for the young people that haven’t listened too loud for too long.
@growyoungagain Your right, I wish I could remember every moment of every one, but after a while they all blend together. Sometimes when I hear a particular song, it’ll bring back a lot of images in my mind. A few always stand out though.
@NoImNotNSA That’s like saying wristwatches are obsolete because you have a cell phone.
They aren’t becoming obsolete.
Audiophiles will continue to use wired headphones (though probably more expensive ones) to listen to lossless files.
People who just want their headphones to work, or plan to use them for hours at a time, will likely stick with wired because they just work. You’re never disappointed that you for got to put them back on the charger dock and they’re dead now.
There are also those of us who still use audio players that are not phones. I am not an audiophile, and mostly listen to audiobooks, but I strongly prefer using a dedicated media player versus using my phone.
@Limewater@NoImNotNSA My gym is in a busy part of downtown and there’s a lot of air wave pollution as far a frequencies go. I have a great pair of wireless earbuds but even just putting my phone in my pocket causes the connection to drop in and out. Gotta wear one of those arm straps which feels awkward with my giant Note phone overshadowing my already dainty biceps.
It’s been difficult to find a quality headphone at a low price still using a cable (The options are basically $5 tin cans or $200 space crafts). Too bad this deal comes a week after I’ve bought 3 pairs of tin cans for my duffel bag.
@NoImNotNSA Not obsolete for those who prefer good sound. BT compresses already compressed audio making it suck twice as bad. Listen to a CD with wired earbuds, then listen to same song in MP3 through BT headphones. The difference between night and day is not an overstatement. If you could care less about audio quality, you’re welcome to compressed garbage through BT buds or phones.
I already own enough earbuds that get knotted. I love to have earbuds everywhere, they’re like sunglasses. But no more 'bud purchases unless they’re tangle free. Tangle free sunglasses too.
Frequency response of these buds: 10hz - 14,000hz
Average human hearing range: 19hz - 20,000hz
So, anything below 19hz is on average subsonic and usually filtered out on 90% of all mixdowns. Was useless for the driver to respond that low. At 14,000hz there is likely a rolloff, but it’s not specified. You’ll probably hear 14,000 - 20,000hz but at what slope? Polk likely doesn’t even know. All just Chinese junk with a once respectable brand badged on it. Depressing.
Well I just bought a super cheap pair of Skull Candy ear buds from a Groupon deal, and those were definitely lackluster, so I’ll bite on these.
I’ve always been a fan of Polk Audio ever since I used to have these massive floor speakers back in high school (late 90s), which my mother absolutely detested! I think she gave them away when I moved out. Wish I would have taken them with me. They hit so hard!
I doubt that these are anything near the sound quality of my MIA pair of Shure E2C earbuds, but I’m sure that they’ll be just fine for travel.
I’ve probably spent $29 on worse things but none come to mind. The best part of these is the little bag. If these are cheap knock-offs, I now understand. If not, Matt should be ashamed of what has become of his once proud company. Bottom line…tin cans and string would sound as good. Ear tips pop off very easily…conveniently in your ear!
They rebranded some crap from a 3rd world. Stay away. Spend your money on V-Moda.

Look about as big as my current headphones. I want some that are small enough my motorcycle helmet doesn’t shove them violently into my ears. Meh!
Edit: $9, they dropped the price.

@Fuzzalini @mdszy best of all… They are PURPLE!!!
@Fuzzalini @mdszy These (the panasonic $10 headphones that come in many colors) are the best price/value ratio for my family - the kids are hard on headphones, the roomba eats them, the husband loses them. I think they sound good, not great but very good, clear and strong; and I don’t have to cry when a pair is destroyed. Absolutely the best value IMO.

@Fuzzalini @Grumman I love purple.
Hear ye hear ye
@AttyVette What?
Not Bluetooth? Not a bundle? Solid pass
@bleedmichigan It is a bundle. You get both the left and the right earbuds in this special package.
@bleedmichigan @shahnm Don’t forget the carrying case.
@bleedmichigan And you get the connecting cable free.
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/9/12/12892490/this-10-cable-will-turn-your-airpods-into-neckpods
@bleedmichigan it sure LOOKS like it should be purpletooth. None of the pictures display the gold connector thingy.
This is actually a good pair of headphones, but how will people hold their phones while listening to music you ask? Easy, Meh face pop sockets! Easy installation and a convenient kickstand if you’re watching movies. It’s the power of pop sockets!
@deathbynoodlez is
@deathbynoodlez After reading this I went out and bought several $1.13 popsockets on eBay.
“Total Frequency Response: 10 Hz - 14 Hz”
Huh? Guess that will make stuff sound rather interesting!
@bigmeh Its all about the base, about the base, about the base, no trebble.
@hchavers I would say that’s not a baseless response.
@bigmeh @hchavers the bass as well.
@bigmeh Should be very popular with whales.
@hchavers @RedOak I do like bass ale at times.
@bigmeh I just spent way too long looking at the specs for this product before realizing we lost a “k”.
@Thumperchick That’s not ok.
I never new Glen had a previous acting career? I now recognize him from Star Trek II.
@hchavers
He’s such a kahn artist
Oof. That’s all low end. A lot like the sound in A Sub Sans Horn.
Great for the library of audiobooks read by James Earl Jones.
@djslack 14khz!
@troy
But that top end, even with the addition of “k” would still be lowly analog FM radio-grade frequency response.
@RedOak @troy It’s not like I can hear anything over 14 kHz.
@G1 @RedOak @troy @djslack
@therealjrn That’s hilarious!
Total Frequency Response: 10 Hz - 14 Hz…
If that’s correct, I doubt anyone is going to hear anything coming out of these earbuds.
@Nyc_Tattoo
Two words: Barry White
@mike808 @Nyc_Tattoo Two more: James Earl Jones.
Ok, technically three.
Wow beaten badly…
I prefer headphones that go ON my ears, not IN them.
@JT954 I’m with you! I just don’t think it’s good to inject all that sound directly into one’s eardrums. On the ears are bad enough. Better invest in hearing aids!
10 Hz - 14 Hz – Its all about the base, about the base, about the base, no trebble.
@hchavers
/giphy drop that base
Hey did anyone comment that there’s an error in the specified frequency range yet?
@nolrak Sheesh. I hope you’re joking.
/giphy is that a joke?
“Polk, world-renowned for its sound quality since 1972”. Really? I’ve never heard of them.

@katbyter huh?
@katbyter did you just crawl out of under your rock yesterday?
@katbyter Deaf, much?
@icehole @DavidChurchRN @RedOak
I have all my hearing and don’t live under a rock. Just don’t stick noisemakers in my ears, so don’t follow the companies who make them. Yes, really.
@katbyter
“noisemakers”
@katbyter They’ve been a pretty big name in high end speakers since the 70s. Earbuds I have no idea.
I’ve heard of earworms - but earsnakes?
@kdemo The new Doctor Who episode?
@kdemo Those are ear snakes.
I don’t get it, why are these so much cheaper than elsewhere? Are they retail packaged? Refurbished?
@killians1978 They probably “fell off” a truck down at the docks…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@killians1978 @therealjrn
A distributor needed fast cash, and unloading them on Meh was the solution.
You might have heard of them: Guy’s Groovy Grab Bag – A company that’s on the move.
I assume it’s 10 Hz - 14 kHz, but even the Polk webpage has it as 10 Hz → 14 Hz
https://www.polkaudio.com/products/nue-era
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not Android compatible? Hard pass.
@sjk3the “remote” will work just fine with android phones you’ll still be able to change volume with it the apple remote is just an included feature.
Besides the 4 Hz frequency response, i find it hard to believe over 100 db at one meter sensitivity.

@akparker777 go to amazon they have better ones for same price and free two day shipping until Christmas
@NoImNotNSA Link to better ones?
Connectivity Technology : Wired
