@connorbush I am uncommitted having only discovered there are teams 5 minutes ago. Should we all get together and pick an unofficially official Meh team?
I got it, and have played around with it today, but I rarely leave my house, and I don’t live in a city, so I doubt I’ll do too much with it. The two pokestops that I can see are the two closest churches to me. One is the one I take my kids to on Wednesday nights, so I guess I’ll get to check in there once a week, at least. Anyway, I’m level three and still trying to figure it out since I’m limited in what I can do from my house.
@MzSooze this is my issue! I wanna be about it but every time I try to play I get the server issue… I have literally been able to get past the opening screen once in the 10 times I have attempted to play.
@metaphore I have two that I can see from my house on the map. They’re both within a five to ten minute walk, but I would be risking my life trying to walk to one of them.
There is about 20 pokestops and 1 gym within a one block radius of me, and 3 that I should be able to interact with from where I am, if the game could put me in the correct location and stop saying I’m hanging out in the empty parking lot across the street. Looks like there’s probably 100 stops and 5 gyms within 5 blocks of me. Seems like a very high concentration to me.
@metaphore Where I work, there are SOOOO many. Where I live… very very few. Pay attention to areas with high concentrations of historically significant venues.
@jbartus I am. I’m also close to a college campus which apparently every building has historical significance and every piece of art(which pretty much every building has at least one) is noteworthy.
@vanslaterco I don’t mind paying up front for a game, I just hate the ones where you have to keep paying “only 99¢!” And next thing people know, they’ve dropped $150 on the game (my friend with Clash of Clans…)
@RiotDemon@vanslaterco As long as you keep catching Pokemon and going to Pokestops you shouldn’t ever need to make in-game purchases. My biggest pet peeves is playing a “free” game and having to pay for stuff; paying for a game and still having to pay for stuff.
I made it to level 3 by going to the grocery store and catching Pokemon while shopping and walking through the parking lot, to and from the car. I made a quick detour to stop by the post office to try out the pokestop.
I felt a little bit like a crazy person standing in the heat trying to get Pokemon that apparently were standing on my shopping cart.
Any tips on how to throw the ball properly? I kept missing. Does the little colored ring on the Pokemon have to be towards the middle or the outside for best results?
@RiotDemon you have to flick the pokemon and basically hit the pokemon. Your accuracy increases as thr little green circle shrinks toward the pokemon. Mastering the right flick power stroke is essential…went from wasting 4/5 balls to getting each in just 1 or 2.
Have any of you taken photos of the Pokemon you have encountered? I tried, but since I have the iOS 10 beta, AR doesn’t work and they never appear on screen.
Here’s a tip for you guys. If you aren’t aware, pokemon go is made by niantic, the same company that made the game ‘ingress’. pokestops and gyms locations are taken directly from portal locations in ingress. download ingress, sign up for the resistance (it is the best team . after you sign up, go to ingress.com/intel and zoom in to your area. you have to zoom in pretty close to see all portals, but in doing this you’ll be able to see where your pokestop locations are. then as you explore, remember which portals are gyms.
edit* try the intel map first. you may not have to sign up for the game, but you do need to log in with your gmail account
Awesome to know. I messed around with Ingress for a bit, but ended up feeling like something was lacking. I hope that Pokemon GO won’t leave me feeling the same. So far so good.
@MzSooze for me, i think pokemon will be lacking. what i like about ingress besides the gameplay is the community. i’ve read that nintendo didn’t want as much of a social aspect to pokemon as to protect the children playing. that is a rumor, but makes sense.
@jaybird Good point. There is Chat for Pokemon GO - GoChat where you can communicate with others. I was unable to use it, seemed to be stuck in an endless error loop. Probably due to all the traffic.
I’ve not had a lot of luck today because the servers are constantly down. However, I have made it to level six. Still no option to choose a team though. Do you have to visit a gym or pokemart before you get the option to choose your team?
@riotdemon@mzsooze It wasn’t meant to be a dig, but that age range puts the people at an age where they would’ve played Pokemon Blue and Red, and wished, nightly, that pokemon would be real.
I think the closest any of us got to that wish coming true was when Burger King had all those happy meal toys. That was insane!! A worked there in high school and ended up scoring all of them. I was so jealous.
@MzSooze my understanding is that it wasn’t meant to roll out to the US yet and they shoved it out the door because people were pirating the APK anyhow.
So I decided to use this at work today since I’m constantly walking around my building. Not even four hours in, and my phone is at 30%, lol
I did manage to catch two inside though, and finish hatching an egg.
@MzSooze yeah, I had that on.
I charged the phone, and I killed it again in another 4 hours. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m inside of a building or what.
I walked around for ~5 hours in downtown boston last night playing Ingress and Pokemon Go, it was a lot of fun. I was shocked at how well my battery held up, I’m not sure what’s causing it to be such a battery hog for some people.
Older phones with dying batteries? Non-flagship phones?
@jbartus While it doesn’t seem that much worse than a lot of a lot of apps, I am going through my battery 2-3times as fast as normal. I am using my phone more than normal so that is more the issue than the app for me. But it does require a constant connection to both internet and GPS which I assume is a problem for some phones.
@jbartus For me, it’s not really a big deal, now I have to charge my phone every day, instead of the 2-3 days I normally get before needing to charge. A majority of my battery drain is from having the screen on for hours at a time. But using the wifi location would probably be useful for other people.
@RiotDemon wifi only would probably be kinder to your battery, wifi + gps is supposed to be more accurate but I don’t think it would be any better than just gps battery wise.
@jbartus My phone lists wifi only location as the “Battery Saving” mode, and the wifi+gps as “High Accuracy” mode but I haven’t compared the battery usage in the different modes.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just now realized you can get those in game money (for more pokeballs, potions etc) by having Pokemon that occupy gyms. That makes it even easier to get through the game with out spending human money.
@vanslaterco yeah, if your Pokemon are good you should get a lot of money. And you can occupy more than one gym… This might be hard when even more people start playing.
@vanslaterco you get 10 coins per gym. The bonus is available every 21 hours. Around here, gyms flip very frequently. One strategy would be to get into as many gyms as possible just before the bonus is availabe then collect it before your kicked out of the gyms
@RiotDemon during beta i notuced that your power up doesnt actually power them up significantly. I try to catch more pokemon knowing that rhe next one you catch may be significantly stronger. I am personally saving candies and such for evolving rather than powering up
I’m so torn on picking a team color. All the gyms are red or blue… I haven’t seen any yellow. I suppose if I go with one of those, I’d have more of a chance to keep a gym occupied than if I went with yellow? But I’m guessing you have to have a Pokemon that is better than someone else at the gym to even be helping?
@RiotDemon for occupation bonus it doesnt matter how strong yours is. I think the gyms can hold up to 21 pokemon. However after a few are added, you have to train at the gym to increase prestige and open more slots to fill
I took my phone for a walk last night to look for Pokemon. I ran into a group of teenage boys on skateboards and kept seeing them. Then I realized I was wearing my squirtle t-shirt (random grab that morning). I felt like a total doofus. Note to self- different shirt, pretend to Facebook next walk.
Has anyone successfully done a gym yet? I beat one once, but when I tried to battle it again so I could maybe take it over, as soon as I beat the first pokemon the game would freeze and the guy would never die. I tried like 5 times and it kept happening. I came back to the same gym like an hour later and when I tried to battle then as soon as the battle started it sent me back to the gym intro screen.
Anyone getting gyms to work properly? Is it on my end or is it an in game bug and I should just wait a week for servers to get better?
@vanslaterco I didn’t have wifi on when it was freezing after killing the first guy. Might have had wifi when it was kicking me out as soon as it started. I’ll pay attention next time I’m near a gym and try without wifi. Thanks.
@metaphore it didn’t really help me when I was experiencing it, but the next day I tried on cellular data, and it worked. Could’ve been a server fluke, but it’s worth a shot.
@RiotDemon Out in my suburbs the only pokestops and gyms I have found are at private clubhouses and churches. The church parking lots are all full of cars cruising by. I’m not sure they’ll appreciate that.
@duodec I’ve noticed an increased police presence where I live. They’ve been checking out sizable groups. Saw one cop talking about Pokemon with a bunch of kids; all were playing on their phones.
I’m getting disappointed in the Pokemon experience. As I stated above, i’m an avid ingress player. our local teams, green and blue are largely respectful to each other and our surroundings. Here, local players are reporting that people of varying ages are getting into real fights because someone defeated their gym. Another group reported that a cemetery that they’ve been ingressing in very respectfully for a couple years now has pokemon players driving on graves to get to pokemen. Yet another player was talking to a family that was playing, giving them pointers and tips when another kid approached them and started cussing at them for taking his gym. The dad immediately rounded up the kids and said they were done. IT’S A FREAKING GAME!!! YOUR GYM WILL BE TAKEN, GET OVER IT!!! I don’t play multiplayers online, but i understand that kids have no language filters online and can be vulgar. Please be respectful to your surroundings and the people playing… With all the success so far, i’m afraid Niantic and Nintendo will have some PR issues upcoming…
@jaybird It seems to be the pervasiveness of the brand. I’m no gamer (especially mobile), but I keep up with the times. I had never heard of Ingress. The Pokemon brand has stretched far away from a gamer culture. There were fist fights at Burger King when they released those toys, there were fights over “bad” card trades. Now all those dumpy Pokemon players, nearly 20 years later with almost no gaming experience, are out in the world competing with kids the age they were. It’s gotta be a nuthouse, or else it wouldn’t be human.
Heard a cop yelling over the loud hailer at someone to get off the train tracks. Everyone was crazy. It is so surreal to see so many people doing the same exact thing.
So is anyone else having a hard time finding diverse species? I have seen more Rattatas, Pidgeys, and Weedles than I care to think about but very few of anything else. I’ve tried going 20 miles south, no joy, all the way east, no joy. I’m running out of ideas. Just how far away do they expect you to travel?!
@jbartus Are you trying different times of day? Or going out at night? I still have only left my house once since the game came out, so I don’t have advice there, but I’ve caught or evolved 19 different kinds from my house. That was just in the first two days. I ran out of pokeballs in level six and can’t play any more until I hit some pokestops.
@jbartus I think it’s more about the terrain than anything. Water Pokemon are close by the water. I caught 7 magikarp last night when I was close to a river. Around my house is mostly rattatas and pidgeys. I’ve seen some different ones at night. I’ve caught, evolved, or hatched 32 different species so far.
@RiotDemon I guess I shouldn’t complain since I’m at over 50 unique pokemon caught but it feels like no matter where I go I see the same ones. As for docent paves and times and water yes to all of the above
@Yoda_Daenerys you saw the professor at the start of the game when you designed how you look. To send it, open your Pokemon ‘inventory’ and select the Pokemon to view its stats then scroll down to Transfer it to the professor.
Here in Rednecklandia there are very few of anything. I did find a Pokestop at a brewery/pizza place and hung around for half an hour, because you can recharge after about 20 minutes apparently. Had to buy pizza while I was there, darn. Best Buy parking lot was full of species, but I was out of pokeballs. Tomorrow I’ll cruise by some churches, which are loaded with towers. Trader Joe’s was full of species but the app froze and I had to leave. You can tell players by how they glance furtively at other cars in the parking lot. This is not an area for walking, even when the heat index is under 100 F.
/giphy Pokemon go
I have caught 33 unique ones- three or so of those were from eggs. I caught a cp 262 Fearow, a 243 Koffing, 221 Venonat, Butterfree, Nidoran, Bulbasaur, Meowth, Staryu, Eevee, Wheezing, Squirtle, and a 192 Paras, and that was all at tonight’s swim meet. Not up to @studerc but I’m happy.
@RiotDemon the problem I have is that people are choosing to blame Pokemon Go for these things. It’s not Pokemon Go’s fault if people are stupid. If someone walks off a bridge and kills themselves that’s their own fault, if someone drives into oncoming traffic it’s at least as likely to happen as a result of texting or playing some other game as playing Pokemon Go. It’s survival of the fittest and evolution has been weeding out the unfit for millenia.
@jbartus It’s similar to blaming Strava for a crash because you were so focused on getting a K/QOM that you didn’t follow the rules of the road. As a cyclist, I find that pretty freakin’ ridiculous; you’re not racing, the road isn’t closed to other traffic, and it’s just a little badge on a website. No need to be stupid… (Of course, I have the advantage of never being concerned about QOMs, because frankly I’m just not good enough to really be a contender. Still…)
@compunaut no. It doesn’t count your steps anymore, so no cheating to hatch eggs, but I can attest that Pokemon will still pop up on your map to catch.
@compunaut If you’re driving even as a passenger things kinda go by too fast to hit. You can sometimes get pokestops. Riding the bus around would probably work great, though.
@compunaut I did it as a passenger… Not terrible, but the pokestops won’t work unless you’re very slow.
I have driven to some random pokestops where it was safe to stop. I have also come across Pokemon in parking lots where I could pull into a spot to catch one.
My must fruitful experience was when I went into a downtown city and walked around. I posted a photo above showing the many pokestops. It would of been terrible to try and drive that route. It would of probably worked as a passenger since you can only go about 5mph around the town since everyone is walking around… But I would of probably ran into something if I tried to drive.
Also, more Pokemon show up in the more dense areas, versus where I would normally drive.
@compunaut@RiotDemon I haven’t caught a single critter outside yet; all of my train station stops seem to be Pokestops and one of them is a gym. Curious to see how far I can take that.
Local churches are deeply concerned that non-parishioners keep walking into their parking lots and then leaving, never looking up. I drove through one lot this morning and had a hefty, sweaty man bustle up to ask me if he could help me. Looking for the church office, I said. He pointed me at it. I’m a white-haired grandma, so not the typical player. As I drove away (with Pokeballs, of course), he was heading full speed for a pedestrian- teen, in jeans, with earbuds. Apparently they’re trying to repel boarders, just in case.
@sammydog01 Target store is a few miles away. This is Rednecklandia, we have churches every quarter mile or more. The Polish-American Club has put a chain across their driveway, which means they have a lot of people driving in and doing tight 3-point turns. One side of the driveway goes down into a pond, always exciting.
@OldCatLady I finally left my house today and hit some pokestops and a gym. Four churches, one rec center, a ball park sign, a Burger King, a Pizza Hut, and a little piece of grass in the center of town with two stones with the Ten Commandments were the ones that I stopped at. At several of the stops, I kept seeing some of the same cars over and over. We were all doing the same thing. haha One guy was sitting in his car (presumably) on his lunch break and had dropped a lure. So, the kids and I sat in our car and hung out through a couple resets.
@PurplePawprints Our Burger King isn’t showing, nor is the Pizza Hut (strip mall variety). OTOH, the local chapel of St Francis Choe (Korean) shows up as a gym, but nobody was around when I went by. I expect it’ll take local media a few days to start covering anything related to Pokemon. This area does not have parks, plaques or fountains, but we do have lots of gators.
/giphy alligator
@PurplePawprints I walked to our local Pokestop, a pavilion at a neighborhood association of which I am not a member. I sat on the guardrail reading a book and snuck over to the no trespassing sign every five minutes. The next day I met two 30 year olds there that were taking a coffee break and had thrown a lure. Driving to a strip mall is easier.
@OldCatLady That is the cutest little gator! Here’s a pic of our BK stop. It took me forever to figure out where the Pizza Hut one was because the name of it was “Wings Wall Mural” and had a picture of whatever is on the wall inside. haha I wish I had played Ingress so I’d already know where they all were.
@sammydog01 It’s too hot for that here. At least, it is for me. The kids and I went to the library (which is not a stop) before pokestop hunting and we thought we were going to melt just walking in and back. As much as I’d like to use the game for exercise, it’s just not feasible where I live due to area layout and temps. I’m glad you found a semi-close spot to walk to!
@Yoda_Daenerys at pokestops, you can add a lure module. They make the pokestops look like pink flower petals falling all around. They attract Pokemon to that area for 30 minutes for everybody.
You end up getting a few for free just for leveling up, but you can buy them as well.
@RiotDemon You can also look for businesses or churches which have put out lures, and hang out in their parking lots. One local (Fleet Reserve Association) bar is a gym, a Pokestop and just now I see they’ve put out a lure. Since it’s the only Pokestop for miles, they’re getting a fair amount of traffic. Since their members are - uh- not likely to be playing, anyone driving around gets glared at. Again, I slide by because I’m an old lady.
Good news Pokemon Go players who are on T-Mobile- free unlimited data for the game, and lots of other bonus prizes:
Of the T-Mobile users who take advantage of the unlimited data offer, 250 will win $100 in PokéCoins, and five will win a trip for themselves and a guest to travel anywhere in the U.S. to participate in a Pokémon Go hunt.
Ugh…gym turn over is just the worst. Went around at 10:30 and destroyed 5 gyms and placed 1000+ pokemon in each to hold down the fort…less than one hour they all turned over again. Competition is fierce.
I am so going to hell. Out walking around, searching for the source of the leaves fluttering from the next street. A neighbor, who is not speaking to me, has an 11-year-old son who was riveted by my phone and creatures and the whole geolocating and map. She announced to the air that she wouldn’t get it because They can track you if you have it on your phone. I showed the kid the houses, the streets, the (distant) gym, the towers, and up popped a Pidgey on my screen, and I got him. The kid is riveted. Another neighbor (who is speaking to both of us), kindly urged her to just get it, his daughter has it and loves it. She is absolutely steaming. I smiled and walked away.
I mean he’s fascinated, enthralled, delighted and wants one. The mother is still shooting mental daggers at me. Those don’t show up on the screen, though. I ought to tell her that negative energy can be tracked by Them, so everyone can see her emotions…
@jbartus Oh yes. She can’t reason from A to B. The other kids in the neighborhood will be playing, her son will make her life miserable, and her husband will chime in on the son’s side. I may have mentioned that McD’s had four creatures pop up while I was there this morning, but I couldn’t catch them.
Wait, I have to walk to incubate an egg? And after harvesting Pokestops twice, they stop producing, even a day later? And churches can take down their Pokestops completely? And cemeteries can post police and signs forbidding PokemonGO playing? (I was waved in because I don’t look like a typical player, but confessed to the cop because… He’s still laughing.)
@vanslaterco I was watching a video about how a holocaust museum was either a Pokestop or a gym (I forget) and people were being pretty disrespectful. In those cases, I completely understand if they don’t want to be part of the game.
@RiotDemon I must research this… tomorrow, when there aren’t so many people on the roads. One local church sign: ‘Come for Pokemon. Stay for coffee and donuts.’ As I was doing a 3-point turn, a parent came up and asked me shyly if I would show his daughters what the game was like. I did a 10-minute demo with an audience of four. Because many players are male, they had been wary about asking, and stores just want to sell you high-end phones. Fortunately I used to train people on databases etc., and the kids were very quick to catch on. They had more questions than I could answer, but it was a start, and the dad was reassured that it doesn’t have to be a money trap. (And I showed them how to get balls every five minutes. I harvested four times there…)
@jbartus Drove into lot, put in park, pulled out phone from purse, smiled at people standing in the lot, put phone away, did 3-point turn. This gave the dad plenty of time to come over, his youngest in tow, to ask for help. Since it was their church, and their parking lot, and their Pokestop, I figured it would be a nice thing to do, so I parked and held a class. Besides, I like telling people where to go and what to do when they get there. Doesn’t everyone?
I tried to download this game 3 different times for my daughter on her Ipod and all I ever get is a grey screen when it opens. Apple people? Any suggestions?
@mfladd Tech creep. It’ll get you in the wallet every time. My Samsung S7 Edge is working beautifully, except this morning when the servers were all down. Just saying.
@Yoda_Daenerys lol… I’ll be 61 next week, and I walked to the nearest convenience store at 6:30 in the morning hunting pokemon… 5 miles round trip… first time I’ve taken a good walk in years. Motrin is my friend.
@capecodjewel I don’t have a good neighborhood to walk in. Driving around other areas (closer to the beach) made me realize they have parks, biking trails etc. I bought this house in a hurry to be close to a new job; now I’m 66 and retired. PokemonGO is a fad, yes, but it has made me think. Time to move, in more ways than one.
/giphy exercise walking
@sammydog01 don’t you love how society has things structured such that we can blame others for our own dumb moves? You can see where she gets it too, her mother was blaming the game too. Wake up lady, you’re doing a lousy job of raising your kid!
Our minor league baseball team, the Flying Squirrels, is selling tickets for $5 tomorrow night if you show them the app on your phone. And we get to run around the field before the game catching pokemon. Woo!
I heard that the game was turned on for Canada today. I had just caught a pretty good Meowth but had the pokeball just ‘stop’, no flashing. In the past after a restart things were ok but thanks to Canada (meh!) the servers had gone down. Pokedex logged the ‘seen’ but not the ‘caught’.
I’m trying to start a new trend and placing the peace sign on my heart when passing unsuspecting PGo players, you know, like passing motorcycle drivers giving that ‘in group’ nod.
There are literally hundreds out at night in my local town, perhaps no sign is needed
@narfcake If driving and playing, it’s done with a navigator who is in charge of operating both phones. When they spot something that might be good, we pull over and get out and walk around. Last night, we pulled off the road onto a little turnout. We weren’t there thirty seconds before a cop pulled in facing us and hit us with the spotlight.
“You’ll need to find somewhere else for that, you two!”
We giggled for at least a half hour over how it used to be cops would rouse you for making out, now it’s for collecting pocket monsters.
Our local frozen yogurt place has a special this weekend- 10% off if you are a level 5 or under trainer, 25% off for trainer level 6 to 15, and 50% off for 16 and above. Most of their stores are Pokestops too.
@mfladd I was at Gillette Stadium last night working on GISHWHES stuff and you’ll never believe who’d taken up residence. Pokemon Go has invaded Patriot Place!
@ELUNO I must walk fast, as I’ve gotten the ‘You’re going too fast, don’t drive and play!!’ message every single time I’ve had the game running to hatch eggs while I walk.
@RiotDemon tbh it’s made me less likely to play. It was a lot of fun going out and trying to find stuff, but now it feels completely random. I get that it’s more like how the game itself actually was but it’s still a bummer.
@hollboll
I thought the recent update made it better? Walk one direction and if the pokemon you want disappears, turn around and walk the other way. It should show back up in that tracking window when you get closer.
@hollboll I guess I never really cared about the tracking to begin with. I usually just catch whatever shows up wherever I’m at versus trying to find specific ones. Maybe now that it’s harder for me to find new ones, since I’ve been playing a while, I might try the new tracking. I had no idea how it works, but if @medz is correct, maybe I’ll test it out. I usually just walk from pokestop to pokestop.
@hollboll i thought the previous tracking was never working, so

if what @medz says is true that would be interesting, however…
…some of the rationale i am using for playing this is the exercize, so i kinda prefer to just keep walking on my path to pokestops and take what comes.
@hollboll Today I tried it out. @#$%& said ‘GPS signal not found’. I’ve just reset my GPS to include all possible sources, so tomorrow MAYBE I’ll be able to check it out.
I think I got a pity hatch from Niantic. I live in a barren wasteland,
and have to drive miles to get to a Pokestop. However, today I hatched a 5 K egg, in a Walmart parking lot- and it was a Porygon.
@OldCatLady I have .1 km to go on a 10k egg. I hope I get something I don’t have yet. It’s my first 10k. One of my last 5k eggs gave me a poliwog which are pretty much everywhere now that they updated.
@ELUNO you have to go less than 15mph… So it’s kinda pointless anyway unless you’re doing stop and go. I usually just have it run when I’m driving neighborhoods and parking lots.
@OldCatLady I tried to do a stupid gishwhes thing and had to video myself walking to hatch 2, 5, and 10 km eggs. It took 40 minutes of walking at a pretty fast pace to hatch the 2 km egg. I can do 3 miles (5 km) around a track in maybe 50 minutes. The app cheats so we can too.
@sammydog01 The app measures by gps distance, not steps.
I don’t know how often the app checks your location but let’s say four minutes. If you walk straight from point A to point B by the time the app checks your gps location, you get a good distance. However, if you walk halfway to point B but then back to point A, the app won’t realize you’ve moved at all.
I’m saying stop walking around the track, basically.
@RiotDemon Genealogy research has become vastly more interesting now that users can see the houses where their ancestors lived. That is, as long as the addresses are still there, and not under a highway or something.
@RiotDemon I actually didn’t either until I read the article. Just makes me a little suspicious that so much of the game would involve interacting with public wifi and leaving it running all the time, considering
@Yoda_Daenerys Incubator, and only use it for 5 or 10k eggs, b/c it’s only good for 3 uses. Use the eternity one for 2k eggs. No, I’ve been chasing a Tauros for days. It’s not anywhere I can find, but it keeps showing nearby.
@sammydog01 Congratulations! My nearest WMT is less than 3 months old, so it was on a very large chunk of ‘undeveloped’ land when Ingress was setting up locations. Maybe I need to go to another store.
@sammydog01 Haven’t found one yet. But they killed commute playing, which has sucked. No more playing on the train (except at stops) or while riding with someone.
@sammydog01 They have just gotten so risk averse. Its not enough to say you’re not driving; if you are moving over speed ‘x’ they consider you driving no matter what you click, and the pokestops don’t work.
@DaveInSoCal I have some horrible “this mon is at a Pokestop but the mon right next to you won’t appear” tracker (official name). I really dislike this update.
To clarify, my tracker will show mons at a distant stop and mons I can catch right now, but nearby mons (like a block away) don’t show up to be tracked like they used to.
@sammydog01 on main screen, when mons show up on tracker icon, tap on tracker icon. on next (tracker) screen, if leetle teeny pic shows up next to mon (generally a pic from a pokestop), tap on mon; bigger pic should appear , along with footyprints under mon. tap on footyprints, next screen should show position of pokestop/mon location relative to you. i think. ymmv.
@sammydog01 i think you have to be near enough to a pokestop to see it on the main screen. sitting here, i can only see one pokestop - about a 10 minute waddle away - but i am not at the pokestop. i saw one mon on my tracker, and it was supposedly located at that stop.
@no1@sammydog01 if you click on the three feet, it will show you on the map where the pokestop is located. butt i see above you already knew that, i was prompting from your screenshot
@Yoda_Daenerys I think that was me. And I put my favorite pokemon in gyms just to get a screenshot of them in there. My current favorite is my muk. Her name is Lulu and when she’s my buddy she looms over me. She is adorable!
I’ve got a Charmander.
@jbartus Right on! I am level 4 on my ipod and level 5 on my Andriod. Will you be joining blue, yellow, or red team?
@connorbush I am uncommitted having only discovered there are teams 5 minutes ago. Should we all get together and pick an unofficially official Meh team?
@jbartus I joined Blue. Most of my comrades have joined blue.
@connorbush I also am team blue. my vote is for blue as meh color
@metaphore @connorbush Sounds good to me! Blue I shall be!
@jbartus I’m blue too.
@jbartus haven’t made it to where I get to pick a team yet.
@jbartus there’s no team Rocket? Sigh…
So I got to pick a team this morning before I conquered two gyms. Blue Team FTW!
@jbartus I blue at this game.
So about it, I missed the Fuko.
I got a Sharmander!!!
Az @MzSooze stated, so about it.
This game is 1) going to cause a spike in rear endings and 2) make an entire generation of smart phones have bad batteries.
@vanslaterco Definitely things that could happen!
@vanslaterco so true! Who pays attention to warnings and disclaimers anymore!
@PurplePawprints I find the lack of any sort of tutorial frustrating. We shall figure it out together!
@connorbush everything I learned I saw on Google.
@connorbush I had to look up how to play to figure it out. Like @MsSooze, google was my friend.
My biggest tips:
@MzSooze 4. Log in at various times of day and near unique terrains. Water pokemon by bodies of water, night pokemon at night, etc.
@MzSooze how do you trade pokemon to the professor?!
@jbartus Select the pokemon you want to get rid of, scroll to the very bottom of its stat page and there’s a button to Transfer it to the professor.
@metaphore Got it, thanks!
Shouldn’t I be getting candy from turning them in?
@jbartus You should get 1 I think, a message saying you got one pops up very briefly after you transfer it.
Thanks @metaphore for covering that for me. I was away from my phone a bit.
Now if the servers would just quit crashing.
@MzSooze amen to this.
@MzSooze this is my issue! I wanna be about it but every time I try to play I get the server issue… I have literally been able to get past the opening screen once in the 10 times I have attempted to play.
I have no idea what this is, but I’m about to find out.
edit: not compatible with galaxy s3
@Pantheist

/giphy eternal sad
@Pantheist

/giphy bummer
@MzSooze @connorbush got it installed by downloading the apk, but now the server is down
@Pantheist

/giphy Yay!!!
How many pokestops are around for most people? I haven’t gone anywhere today so I don’t know what it looks other places.
@metaphore I have four pokestops and a gym in the same 50 ft radius.
@metaphore I have two that I can see from my house on the map. They’re both within a five to ten minute walk, but I would be risking my life trying to walk to one of them.
@PurplePawprints yea, better not do that. Safety first!
@metaphore I have a pokestop and gym right next to each other that I can see from my house that are about a ten minute walk.
@metaphore Where I work, there are SOOOO many. Where I live… very very few. Pay attention to areas with high concentrations of historically significant venues.
@metaphore you must be in a city…
@jbartus I am. I’m also close to a college campus which apparently every building has historical significance and every piece of art(which pretty much every building has at least one) is noteworthy.
@metaphore Go here to get a zoomable map of all pokestops/gyms https://www.ingress.com/intel
@MzSooze ah yes only few will know
@CrossIT I’ll just sit right down on the bucket until it works…
Can you actually play without having to use money?
@RiotDemon Actually yes. I’m as surprised as you are.
@vanslaterco I don’t mind paying up front for a game, I just hate the ones where you have to keep paying “only 99¢!” And next thing people know, they’ve dropped $150 on the game (my friend with Clash of Clans…)
@RiotDemon there is pay content but it doesn’t seem to effect gameplay. I’m level 8 and haven’t hit a wall where I would need to buy items.
@vanslaterco Cool. Now I don’t feel compelled to delete it right away.
@RiotDemon I could potentially but bored by the time I’d have to buy anything.
@RiotDemon @vanslaterco As long as you keep catching Pokemon and going to Pokestops you shouldn’t ever need to make in-game purchases. My biggest pet peeves is playing a “free” game and having to pay for stuff; paying for a game and still having to pay for stuff.
@MzSooze @riotdemon Ya, when you’re about to run out of Pokeballs, you’re pretty much right on a level up which provides plenty.
@vanslaterco if you hit pokestops like a fiend you’ll never run out anyhow
@studerc for fun, try spinning the pokeball in a circle before releasing it. gives a nice curveball effect
Have any of you taken photos of the Pokemon you have encountered? I tried, but since I have the iOS 10 beta, AR doesn’t work and they never appear on screen.
Here’s a tip for you guys. If you aren’t aware, pokemon go is made by niantic, the same company that made the game ‘ingress’. pokestops and gyms locations are taken directly from portal locations in ingress. download ingress, sign up for the resistance (it is the best team
. after you sign up, go to ingress.com/intel and zoom in to your area. you have to zoom in pretty close to see all portals, but in doing this you’ll be able to see where your pokestop locations are. then as you explore, remember which portals are gyms.
edit* try the intel map first. you may not have to sign up for the game, but you do need to log in with your gmail account
@jaybird The game sounded exactly like Ingress but with a skin-mod. Then I found out it was made by the same company. Now I found it this. Hilarious.
@DrunkCat yeah, they just copied the portal locations and even the photos to make the pokestops
@jaybird Good post (except for that bit about the resistance)
@hallmike thbts
@jaybird apparently ingress is compatible with my phone even though pokemon isnt. Wonder why
@Pantheist i dont think the graphics demand is as high with ingress
Probably due to all the traffic.
mine keeps stopping on the choose character page. but soon.
@meh the servers have been down for hours for me…
I’ve not had a lot of luck today because the servers are constantly down. However, I have made it to level six. Still no option to choose a team though. Do you have to visit a gym or pokemart before you get the option to choose your team?
@PurplePawprints Mine triggered when I hit lvl 5.
A part of me feels as though they should have expected this and been ready for it.
@MzSooze I dunno. I know pokemon is huge but even I’m surprised at how virulent it’s gotten.
@DrunkCat @MzSooze A free RPG pokemon to a generation of 23-29 year olds with smart phones? RAMPANT NOSTALGIA!
@vanslaterco might wanna raise that age bracket, I haven’t been in my twenties for a bit. Lol. But, nostalgia is right! I can’t wait to get a Pikachu.
@DrunkCat I admit, I didn’t think it would be this crazy.
@vanslaterco now I suddenly feel old, lol
@riotdemon @mzsooze It wasn’t meant to be a dig, but that age range puts the people at an age where they would’ve played Pokemon Blue and Red, and wished, nightly, that pokemon would be real.
@vanslaterco @vanslaterco oh no, I didn’t think it was a dig. My wording could have been better.
@thismyusername Or standing by a weird building for a little toooooo long.
@vanslaterco im glad this will take the police away from suspicious ingressers to focus on pokemoners
I seem to have some hiding in the bathroom. Hmmm.

So I decided to use this at work today since I’m constantly walking around my building. Not even four hours in, and my phone is at 30%, lol
I did manage to catch two inside though, and finish hatching an egg.
It’s too bad it’s such a battery hog.
And 4.5 hours in, phone is completely dead. So much for using walking at work to hatch eggs. Unless I carry around my external charger.
@RiotDemon did you enable battery saver? I believe that dims the screen when you put the phone down, and then alerts when pokemon are near.
@metaphore do you have wifi-assisted location turned on? That might help matters.
@jbartus For me, it’s not really a big deal, now I have to charge my phone every day, instead of the 2-3 days I normally get before needing to charge. A majority of my battery drain is from having the screen on for hours at a time. But using the wifi location would probably be useful for other people.
@metaphore Wi-Fi + GPS or only Wi-Fi location?
@RiotDemon wifi only would probably be kinder to your battery, wifi + gps is supposed to be more accurate but I don’t think it would be any better than just gps battery wise.
@metaphore I was thinking Wifi + GPS so the phone could optimize its usage accordingly.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also… I charge my phone daily anyhow so it never occurred to me that 2-3 times usage causing daily charging was the exception.
@jbartus My phone lists wifi only location as the “Battery Saving” mode, and the wifi+gps as “High Accuracy” mode but I haven’t compared the battery usage in the different modes.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I do not play this game, but this article seems to have a lot of hints:

@KDemo I’m annoyed that I could of had a Pikachu.

I just finished reading that too.

@juststephen

/giphy it’s so fluffy
I just now realized you can get those in game money (for more pokeballs, potions etc) by having Pokemon that occupy gyms. That makes it even easier to get through the game with out spending human money.
@vanslaterco yeah, if your Pokemon are good you should get a lot of money. And you can occupy more than one gym… This might be hard when even more people start playing.
@RiotDemon Pretty true. I did make 10 whatevers from one being in a gym just for the day, though. I guess that a few times over would add up.
@vanslaterco you get 10 coins per gym. The bonus is available every 21 hours. Around here, gyms flip very frequently. One strategy would be to get into as many gyms as possible just before the bonus is availabe then collect it before your kicked out of the gyms
Is it better to power up your Pokemon before you make them evolve, or does it not make a difference?
A Pokemon gamer found a dead body in Wyoming on Friday. I wonder what else folks will run into as they wander around.
@duodec that is so scary, if it’s the same one I heard of – I hope she isn’t going to be traumatized.
@duodec I’m still waiting for the first teenager to get run over by a car.
@sammydog01 From watching some of the completely oblivious poke-walkers I’m afraid it will happen soon.
@metaphore I had the exact same bug at the gym near my office. It seems to have been worked out for me. Try entering the gym with wifi off.
It’s awesome. But I picked yellow. Fuck blue
I picked red, had a lvl 3 gym but a local yellow knocked us outta there over night.
Note to self: make Pokemon stronger!
Stopped on my way home where there is two Pokestops right next to each other… There was 3 other cars parked in the same lot, all playing.
@RiotDemon Out in my suburbs the only pokestops and gyms I have found are at private clubhouses and churches. The church parking lots are all full of cars cruising by. I’m not sure they’ll appreciate that.
St. Louis Dispatch: Criminals use pokemon game to lure in victims
Be careful out there…
@duodec geez
@duodec I’ve noticed an increased police presence where I live. They’ve been checking out sizable groups. Saw one cop talking about Pokemon with a bunch of kids; all were playing on their phones.
I took my kids to the local amusement park. They have 4 gyms and 55 pokestops there. Now I know how to fill up on pokeballs.
@sammydog01 wow! 55!
TL:DR It’s a game, don’t be a douche
@jaybird It seems to be the pervasiveness of the brand. I’m no gamer (especially mobile), but I keep up with the times. I had never heard of Ingress. The Pokemon brand has stretched far away from a gamer culture. There were fist fights at Burger King when they released those toys, there were fights over “bad” card trades. Now all those dumpy Pokemon players, nearly 20 years later with almost no gaming experience, are out in the world competing with kids the age they were. It’s gotta be a nuthouse, or else it wouldn’t be human.
@jaybird I think it’s because Ingress is primarily for adults, whereas Pokemon is primarily a younger, more… ahem… energetic client base.
@jbartus you’re a third of the way there!
@RiotDemon yeah!
@jbartus i caught my first one, now what?
@Yoda_Daenerys send it to the professor to get candy for future higher level versions of it because it’s garbage.
@jbartus how do i send it to the professor?

/giphy Pokemon go
@OldCatLady the pokestops can be spun every five minutes.
@RiotDemon That’s what it says, but I’m here to tell you, it didn’t work that way. Could have been server problems.
@OldCatLady probably. All the pokestops I’ve gone to reset after 5 minutes.
Well, Boston is where it’s at.
http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/13/12173204/boston-detailed-pokemon-go-google-map?utm_campaign=polygon.social&utm_medium=social&utm_content=polygon&utm_source=facebook
@OldCatLady hmm guess I’ll keep going south to Boston. I did have a pretty successful night there I just kept seeing similar types after a point.
One week in…Pokedex at 75 unique caught. Strongest Pokémon, CP 1268 Lapras. 9 year old @studerc gives a respectful nod to his 26 year old counterpart.
Not up to @studerc but I’m happy.
https://www.azdot.gov/mobile/media/news/2016/07/13/pikachu-agrees-pokémon-go-is-a-no-go-when-driving
Also, it’s just a matter of time …

@narfcake only a matter of time before a serious accident happens.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@jbartus totally agree. I mean, it has the huge warning when you start the app, not to be an idiot.
@RiotDemon Yeah, since when do people read warnings, terms of conditions, etc., before continuing?

@jbartus We just had two idiots wander off a cliff playing PG.
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Two-Men-Fall-Down-Cliff-While-Playing-Pokemon-Go-386743551.html
@DaveInSoCal #Darwin
Still…)
I thought the game was inactive if you’re moving > 15mph or so (AKA driving)?
@compunaut no. It doesn’t count your steps anymore, so no cheating to hatch eggs, but I can attest that Pokemon will still pop up on your map to catch.
@RiotDemon So why is everyone walking around getting ‘sore legs/feet’ if they could just drive instead?
@compunaut @RiotDemon I haven’t caught a single critter outside yet; all of my train station stops seem to be Pokestops and one of them is a gym. Curious to see how far I can take that.
Here’s how to opt-out of the arbitration clause in PG’s terms and conditions:
https://consumerist.com/2016/07/14/pokemon-go-strips-users-of-their-legal-rights-heres-how-to-opt-out/
Local churches are deeply concerned that non-parishioners keep walking into their parking lots and then leaving, never looking up.
@OldCatLady I stopped going to churches. Target is just as good and you can buy popcorn and sit down while you wait for the reset.

@PurplePawprints We had a heat index of 100 today. I’m waiting for sunset. I had better wear a light colored shirt.
@sammydog01 Ick! Summer sucks so bad. Stay hydrated!
@PurplePawprints @sammydog01 what is “dropped a lure”?
@Yoda_Daenerys at pokestops, you can add a lure module. They make the pokestops look like pink flower petals falling all around. They attract Pokemon to that area for 30 minutes for everybody.
You end up getting a few for free just for leveling up, but you can buy them as well.
Looks like this in the photo I posted above somewhere:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/pokemon-go#5786c7014b96627406c06f01
@RiotDemon thx for the pointers!
@Yoda_Daenerys In my experience lures got you a lot more frequent rattatas and pidgeys. I don’t think I would spend actual money on them.
@sammydog01 I had better luck when people dropped lures in places that had more variety.
I probably will never spend money on them either because I see them dropped often in downtown. If I want to waste a few hours, I can just go there.
@RiotDemon The strip mall works here, and they don’t mind if you come.

@studerc suburbia is your friend. That or go out at 3 AM
@studerc I’ve totally given up on the gyms. It just isn’t worth the effort, at least yet. I’m stocking up for when trading becomes a thing.
@studerc How do you even have 1000+ ?!?!?!?
@connorbush ive currently got 7 over 1000 CP.

@OldCatLady does she use Google Maps?
@jbartus Oh yes. She can’t reason from A to B. The other kids in the neighborhood will be playing, her son will make her life miserable, and her husband will chime in on the son’s side. I may have mentioned that McD’s had four creatures pop up while I was there this morning, but I couldn’t catch them.
@OldCatLady so what you need to do is give her husband the link to the google maps location history page.
@jbartus He’s aware. Mostly he just tunes her out. In a couple of years the kid will stop listening to her, like everyone else has.
@OldCatLady Pfft. Google knows everything about me. If I’m inside a building and take a photo, it now asks if I want to upload it to Google maps.
I really don’t care. I’m not a criminal. Who knows, maybe one day it’ll be my alibi for where I was at such and such time on such and such day, lol
As much as I love 1984 and think about the Big Brother repercussions, I’m not worried about Google.
@RiotDemon
@OldCatLady I haven’t seen anything about Pokestops being taken down. I think that’s pretty cool of Niantic.
@vanslaterco I was watching a video about how a holocaust museum was either a Pokestop or a gym (I forget) and people were being pretty disrespectful. In those cases, I completely understand if they don’t want to be part of the game.
@OldCatLady I’ve never seen a Pokestop completely stop working unless the server has been giving me issues.
I harvested four times there…)
@OldCatLady our generation showing their generation - you go girl!
@OldCatLady so if I follow this correctly… you were driving and playing Pokemon Go?
@jbartus Drove into lot, put in park, pulled out phone from purse, smiled at people standing in the lot, put phone away, did 3-point turn. This gave the dad plenty of time to come over, his youngest in tow, to ask for help. Since it was their church, and their parking lot, and their Pokestop, I figured it would be a nice thing to do, so I parked and held a class. Besides, I like telling people where to go and what to do when they get there. Doesn’t everyone?
@OldCatLady ah, much better. I was worried for a second!
And yeah, I can’t deny a certain satisfaction in doing that!
I tried to download this game 3 different times for my daughter on her Ipod and all I ever get is a grey screen when it opens. Apple people? Any suggestions?
@mfladd it’s probably server issues, still.
Make sure you’re either on good Wi-Fi, or on the phone’s internet if it’s crappy Wi-Fi.
Best bet is to try again later.
@mfladd also, how old is the iPod? It won’t work with older phones, so I’m guessing it won’t work on older iPods.
…and I just realized in my last post I said to use the phone’s internet, which doesn’t exist in an iPod, haha.
@RiotDemon Actually, I just found this answer on the web.
@mfladd Tech creep. It’ll get you in the wallet every time. My Samsung S7 Edge is working beautifully, except this morning when the servers were all down. Just saying.
@OldCatLady i felt kinda silly downloading this as an
, but you are inspiring me!

@capecodjewel so glad to hear this, i am also going to get out more and do some ‘hunting’
Today I was almost broad sided by a guy going thru a stop sign. Pokemon-Go related…probably not. But the plethora of PGo incidents are on the rise. Get a grip people.
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-pokemon-go-players-stabbed-fall-off-cliff-20160714-snap-story.html
@mfladd How about this one:
http://www.scarymommy.com/teen-pokemon-go-highway-accident/
“Deiseroth says she was forced to cross a four-lane road to catch Pokémon on Tuesday”
Yep, forced. Dumbass.
@mfladd I don’t mind if people die playing Pokemon Go, they were clearly in the unfit category. #Darwin
I blame Canada. I think they have goats there.
@duodec Sounds plausible, eh.
@KDemo hilarious
As far as I’m concerned, this is the only good thing to come from Pokemon Go.
@RiotDemon I used to watch the show with my kids when they were younger, and this made me laugh so hard.
Lol this video
pokemon gal won’t you come out tonight, come out tonight by the light of the silvery moon. But, be responsible and use protection from stds
@jbartus Nope again. We don’t walk off cliffs.
@mfladd neither do we. Idiots do, but you can’t blame Pokemon Go for that, idiots play fantasy football too.
Edit: To be clear, the people walking off of cliffs are idiots, I am not calling fantasy footballers idiots.
Having trouble finding that elusive pokemon?
http://imgur.com/gallery/wOjo0
@jbartus This. Quite a few times.
I’m trying to start a new trend and placing the peace sign on my heart when passing unsuspecting PGo players, you know, like passing motorcycle drivers giving that ‘in group’ nod.
There are literally hundreds out at night in my local town, perhaps no sign is needed
@Yoda_Daenerys Might reconsider that sign. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/smartertravel/10-innocent-hand-gestures_b_5022230.html
You haven’t truly had fun hunting for Pokémon until you get roused from the side of the road by cops. Hey, at least I pulled over!
@KittySprinkles story time story time story time!
@KittySprinkles Thank you for not playing while driving.
@sammydog01 #virtualcapitalism
@mfladd I was at Gillette Stadium last night working on GISHWHES stuff and you’ll never believe who’d taken up residence. Pokemon Go has invaded Patriot Place!
@jbartus Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people
@jbartus Go Pokemon Pats!
@compunaut if it happened here you can bet it’s happened everywhere.
I need to move. A few years ago this was just trees and snakes, and it’s very quiet and pretty, but I want some Pokemon.
@OldCatLady Nothing beats playing on the train for a reminder as to how middle-of-nowhere you are…

@brhfl and look at that battery drain! It’s such a juice hog.
oh it’s my new obsession
Stupid update now has you pushing a button while driving making you even more distracted! Chaos everywhere!

/giphy chaos
@ELUNO
@ELUNO I’m assuming it’s so they can try to not be liable for idiots crashing their cars while driving and playing.
@ELUNO I must walk fast, as I’ve gotten the ‘You’re going too fast, don’t drive and play!!’ message every single time I’ve had the game running to hatch eggs while I walk.
@RiotDemon But those idiots will still be doing it but now have to deal with a distracting message as well…
@brhfl Yeah, I’ve had that pop up a couple of times while standing still! The GPS signal can get funky and have your character move around by itself.
@ELUNO My daughter hatched a 5 km egg sitting at a baseball game because the GPS kept her roaming all over the field.
How does everyone feel about the new pokemon tracking (or lack thereof)?
@hollboll
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@RiotDemon tbh it’s made me less likely to play. It was a lot of fun going out and trying to find stuff, but now it feels completely random. I get that it’s more like how the game itself actually was but it’s still a bummer.
@hollboll
I thought the recent update made it better? Walk one direction and if the pokemon you want disappears, turn around and walk the other way. It should show back up in that tracking window when you get closer.
@medz is that how it works?
@hollboll That’s what one article I read stated. I haven’t really tested it.
I held the Teacups at Busch Gardens for five minutes. Go Valor!

My 5k before that was a Ponyta, with 16! candies. I appreciate the extra candies. I have only seen one Ponyta.
@RiotDemon The charts show lots of possibilities, but I haven’t seen a ranking of how common each one has been. http://www.pokemongodb.net/2016/07/egg-hatching-chart-2km-5km-10km.html
@OldCatLady 26 candies!!

@RiotDemon Yay! Well done, you!
@OldCatLady I wish I could say I walked the 10k… But most of it was driving slow into and out of my neighborhood, haha
@RiotDemon I used to leave it running while I drove to work, but now with that stupid pop-up message I can’t do it anymore :’(
@ELUNO you have to go less than 15mph… So it’s kinda pointless anyway unless you’re doing stop and go. I usually just have it run when I’m driving neighborhoods and parking lots.
@RiotDemon Oh, you don’t know Atlanta’s traffic… Plenty of <15mph distance…
@ELUNO I’ll admit, I don’t go to Georgia much. I have relatives in Nahunta… And I haven’t seen them in probably 6+ years.
@RiotDemon I just moved here. Nice place. But traffic.
@RiotDemon My Fitbit and my Pokemon tracker don’t show the same mileage, for exactly that reason.

@ELUNO thanks for correcting that. Got the link through work, I cut off the beginning of it and didn’t realize the end wouldn’t work publicly.
@Pantheist interesting article. I honestly had no idea about Google stealing info with their street view cars.
@RiotDemon Genealogy research has become vastly more interesting now that users can see the houses where their ancestors lived. That is, as long as the addresses are still there, and not under a highway or something.
@thumperchick thanks for fixing my post
@RiotDemon I actually didn’t either until I read the article. Just makes me a little suspicious that so much of the game would involve interacting with public wifi and leaving it running all the time, considering
so, you have 200+ gold coins, what’s the best buy?
anyone have any tips for how to get to rare pokemon seen on radar, but not showing up on screen?
@Yoda_Daenerys Incubators are nice.
@Yoda_Daenerys I’ve used the nearby tracker to find a couple of rare pokemon. So, what I do is this:
perpendicular direction until you either see the pokemon or it is off the tracker.
This really has worked for me. As long as buildings and rivers and whatnot aren’t in your way, it should work for you too. I hope!
@emilyap so far it has worked one out of one times, thanks
@sammydog01 i decided to upgrade my backpack since it is permanent
@Yoda_Daenerys Nice! I didn’t even know that was an option.
Here’s a video for anyone familiar with the TV show:
Here’s a Pokemon Go parody of Royals:
@dashcloud The place we go on weekends has no pokemon. None at all. Not a stinking rattata. I don’t get it.
I caught a 1223 cp exeggutor in the Walmart parking lot.

/giphy score
@sammydog01 Congratulations! My nearest WMT is less than 3 months old, so it was on a very large chunk of ‘undeveloped’ land when Ingress was setting up locations. Maybe I need to go to another store.
This morning I caught one of the ‘rare’ Pokemon, a Tauros, in an empty lot where a meth lab house used to be. I need to move.

/giphy tauros pokemon go
@OldCatLady Nice! About the tauros, not the meth lab.
@OldCatLady i catch 10 taurus a day, rare must depend on location
today i caught a 1997 CP taurus, or sumpin like that
Oh My God they added Dittos!!!
@sammydog01 Haven’t found one yet. But they killed commute playing, which has sucked. No more playing on the train (except at stops) or while riding with someone.
@duodec There was a ditto on the gym at the park this morning. Bummer about the train.
@sammydog01 They have just gotten so risk averse. Its not enough to say you’re not driving; if you are moving over speed ‘x’ they consider you driving no matter what you click, and the pokestops don’t work.
@duodec screw the train. pretend you are 90 yo and drive at 10 mph.
@duodec for me, it’s better they stop pokestops after 25 mph, i’m a safer driver now
at least a little bit safer
Looks like tracking is back
@DaveInSoCal I have some horrible “this mon is at a Pokestop but the mon right next to you won’t appear” tracker (official name). I really dislike this update.
@emilyap if you click on the feet under the monster it should show you exactly where it is on the map.
@DaveInSoCal My tracker will show me where the Pokemon by the Pokestop is, but ignores the Pokemon that’s near my location (not near the stop).
To clarify, my tracker will show mons at a distant stop and mons I can catch right now, but nearby mons (like a block away) don’t show up to be tracked like they used to.
@emilyap Yes, the stuff that pops up isn’t usually on the tracker. I don’t get that.
@DaveInSoCal Maybe you live in area where that is being tested? I don’t see that here.
@sammydog01 on main screen, when mons show up on tracker icon, tap on tracker icon. on next (tracker) screen, if leetle teeny pic shows up next to mon (generally a pic from a pokestop), tap on mon; bigger pic should appear , along with footyprints under mon. tap on footyprints, next screen should show position of pokestop/mon location relative to you. i think. ymmv.
@no1 Do I have to be at a Pokestop for it to work?
@sammydog01 i think you have to be near enough to a pokestop to see it on the main screen. sitting here, i can only see one pokestop - about a 10 minute waddle away - but i am not at the pokestop. i saw one mon on my tracker, and it was supposedly located at that stop.
@sammydog01
@no1 Thanks! I will check this out at the park tomorrow. That is really cool.
@no1 It worked! It must have just rolled out today- I would have noticed it yesterday. Cool!
@sammydog01 http://bgr.com/2016/12/01/pokemon-go-tracking-feature-nearby/
@no1 @sammydog01 if you click on the three feet, it will show you on the map where the pokestop is located. butt i see above you already knew that, i was prompting from your screenshot
/youtube nevermind
any advice on training gyms?
i’m getting 500 prestige with 1/2 CP warriors, but getting 1000 prestige is proving difficult.
/youtube prestige is the answer
I CAUGHT A DITTO! I will name him George, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.
@sammydog01 if you put it into battle/train it transforms into what it is fighting, butt then changes back to ditto afterwards
@Yoda_Daenerys George has a CP of 28 so he’s probably not going to gyms any time soon.
@sammydog01 yea, i’m not quite sure how that works…
if you do gyms, just throw ol’ georgie in for grins - (s)he’ll turn into the opponent and then be gone (if weak)
remind me please, are you the aMeh.rican with the same “score” on that weird level/age/weight scale i posted some time ago, as me?
@Yoda_Daenerys I think that was me. And I put my favorite pokemon in gyms just to get a screenshot of them in there. My current favorite is my muk. Her name is Lulu and when she’s my buddy she looms over me. She is adorable!
@sammydog01 yea, i found the post i recalled and replied
eye’m hoping ewe are write and mie ackount reterns too mee
Meh.
Check out my new buddy! I love him sooooo much!

@sammydog01 Let us know if he moves to your shoulder after walking him 10k.
I’ve hatched a couple of eggs but no babies yet. So disappointed.
@emilyap I hatched an igglybuff and a togepi today so I have a feeling they are pretty common. And pikachu just moved to my shoulder!
Getting close to evolution of Pikachu. If i evolved one with a santa hat does the evolution wear a hat too?
@CaptAmehrican Yep! The internet says so anyway.
@CaptAmehrican “the evolution” has a name
@darksaber99999 perhaps but i don’t know it.
@CaptAmehrican Raichu. Pikachu is way cuter.
@shakotaMMM sorry i missed the raid invite. happy to join anytime.
